Review Update: GrandeLASH™ MD Lash Enhancing Serum, One Tube Later

I wanted to do an update on the results I’ve been experiencing since I started using the  GrandeLash MD Lash Enhancing Serum.

Take a read at my original review where I talk about my first 8 weeks of using the product. In that post, I go in-depth on the application and other product details. The instructions said users would get the full results in 3 months, so here we are!

GrandLash_Update_LBL (4)

NOTE: Although I tried to be as consistent as possible there were some nights that I simply forgot to use this. I still see results but I think if I was more diligent with applying this every night they might have been better!

After finishing up a whole bottle this is what my lashes look like!

GrandLash_Update_LBL (1)

This after using the whole tube. If you want to see my week-by-week progress, please read my original review here.

GrandLash_Update_LBL (2)

I feel that my photos don’t do this justice. My lashes are not noticeable in the photos, but in person my they are longer and much more curled. They feel thicker to the touch as well.

I see the greatest difference when I’m wearing mascara because I notice how much longer the lashes have become. Since I wear mascara every day I notice that my lashes look a lot more dramatic compared to 3 months ago. I don’t feel like I have more lashes, but that the lashes I do have are longer, thicker and curlier.

I’ve included two sets of photos below from my palette review series posts because you can see the difference my lashes look like with mascara on.

Here’s a photo from my Review of Estee Lauder’s Color Envy Palette from November 2017

Here’s a photo of the same eye, in February when I did a review of the Too Faced Just Peachy Mattes Palette.

I think I used They’re Real mascara in the top photo and Monsieur Big in the bottom photos but those mascaras don’t apply too differently on my lashes. Look at how much furth my lash looks when you compare the length against my crease. I hope you can see that the lashes in the centre of my eye look longer. You can go through my Palette Collection Review Series posts in the tab above and you’ll notice that my lashes have changed from now to three + months ago.

GrandLash_Update_LBL (7)

I’ve been very happy with my lash the results and have already invested in a second tube. After the first three months, you can apply this every other or third day just to maintain the lash length. I wonder how my lashes will look long term. If I notice a bigger difference I will let you know!

Have there been any lash enhancing serums you’ve tried?

Beauty Boutique Haul: All For A Bonus Bag!

A week ago I put in an order at not because I needed anything but because THEY WERE OFFERING A BIG BAG OF SAMPLES and 20X the points!! I don’t know why I did any shopping at all but I did and I thought I’d share it!

Shiseido Benfiance Wrinkle Smoothing Starter Kit

Um, yes, I did need more Shiseido items. I have a nice little box where I have been collecting them so these will make a nice addition.

I really do love this cleanser and moisturizer set because… wrinkles! Also, I like that everything is meant to work together.

Urban Decay Vice Lipstick

I don’t know why I never tried these before, especially since there are a million colours and different finishes in this line! No, seriously there are so many colours! I was at the Beauty Boutique Store in Shoppers the other day and was swatching a whole bunch of them.

I was very drawn to the sheer formula so I picked out Sheer Liar and it’s such a pretty nude. I’ve already worn this a few times already and am really enjoying the formula. The only downside is that it’s not long lasting on the lips. I find I have to re-apply quite often.

NeoStrata Glycolic Renewal Smoothing Lotion

I wasn’t paying attention when I picked this up. I searched anti-ageing and added the first item that came up into my cart. I’ve used Neostrata before so I didn’t think much of it. This isn’t made for my skin type but if I use it as a spot treatment around my eyes, smile lines I should be OK. One thing to note is that this smells pretty bad so I don’t like wearing it all over my face. Since I’ve already bought it I’m going to use it.

You are supposed to use 5% Glycolic acids first to build up a tolerance and then use this product 1 to 2 times daily for a week and then 1 or 2 times a day as needed and tolerated afterwards. I’ve been using a few items from the L’Oreal Revitalift Bright Reveal line that has Glycolic acid in its formula so I’m sure this should be OK for me to use once a day on my skin.

Vichy Mineralizing Thermal Water

To make the minimum spend for the gift bag I added this facial mist to my bag. I love Vichy products and I love face mists so this was an easy item to add to my cart. The mist on this is super fine and it dries on my skin pretty quickly. I mean this is just water, but according to the description, it has 15 minerals to rebalance, strengthen and regenerate skin. I’ll use this before my skincare and as a makeup setting spray.

I had to snag this pretty awesome bag full of 17 deluxe samples! Yes, I was drawn in by the sample bag but it’s not a bad value if you break down the cost of each per mL compared to their full-sized counterparts and there were items in here that I wanted to try before buying a full size. I won’t list everything I got but these are a few items I’m most excited to test;

  • Clarins Extra-Firming Day Cream
  • Strivectin Anti-Wrinkle Recode (it claims to reduce the look of deep wrinkles in 7 days, let’s see how it fairs on my fine lines!)
  • Clinique Pop lip colour and primer
  • Benefit POREfessional Pearl Primer (I like the original, I’m curious if I’ll like this)
  • St. Tropez Gradual Tan Plus (because it’s Spring!)

Other items in the bag are things that I know and love such as the Shiseido Ultimune, La Roche-Posay Micellar water and Bioderma’s cleanser. I also think they came in a pretty cute tote, one I will use.

Here are all the items I got! Have you ever been tempted to shop because it had a gift with purchase you just couldn’t resist?

Review: Using and Testing Makeup Removers

The other day I was going through my bathroom cabinets and noticed that I have a few different makeup removers open. I began to realize that I use each one to remove a specific type of makeup be it everyday, heavy eye makeup, mascara etc.

I rotate through different makeup remover brands but the items themselves are always the same. I always have a micellar water, makeup remover/ cleanser wipe and makeup removing balm. I always follow up removing my makeup with a cleanser but these items really help to break down most, if not all, of the makeup on my face.

Makeup-Removing Wipes

Garnier Makeup Removing Micellar Wipes
$7.97 CAD, 25 Wipes

MakeupRemovers_Review_LBL (5)

I use makeup removing wipes to remove my workday/everyday makeup because it tends to be a lot lighter. These wipes remove any light coverage foundation or bb creams, concealer, eye makeup pretty well. When I’m feeling really lazy, I can just use the wipe to clean my face and call it a day.

MakeupRemovers_Review_LBL (6)

I rotate through so many makeup wipes but so far I like this one from Garnier the best! The cloth is so soft and it’s not crazy saturated with the product but enough that I feel like one cloth is good for my whole face. It even rivals the Simple makeup removing wipes or the Neutrogena wipes that I’ve used before because this is much better at removing makeup in my opinion. I also like that I don’t get left with a greasy/filmy feeling after using this that I sometimes experience with other makeup wipes.

Micellar Waters

Yves Rocher Sebo Vegetal Purifying Micellar Water 2 in 1
$29.00 CAD (390 mL) – Yves Rocher always has a promotion but this is the usual retail price

MakeupRemovers_Review_LBL (7)

I like using micellar water similar to makeup removing/cleanser wipes. They are perfect for when I’m wearing a work day or everyday makeup look. What I like about micellar waters is that they are usually more gentle for use around my eyes so I like using them to remove eyeliner and mascara. I’ve noticed that the effectiveness of the micellar water improves when I use a good cotton pad. I find the Shiseido Facial Cotton really good with my micellar water because I don’t need to saturate them as much so a little product goes a long way. The cotton itself absorbs the product in such a way that it makes it easier to spread over my eyes. I’ve said this before but Shiseido really marries technology with beauty because you can tell that a lot of thought and innovation went into their products, or they are all wizards in those labs. Another more affordable option is the MUJI Cut Cotton, I actually prefer these peelable ones.

Although the Yves Rocher micellar water is designed for oily/combination skin, I still find it effective for my dry skin. It does a decent job of removing my makeup but unlike the ones from Bioderma or even the one I’ve tried from Vichy, it’s not the best at removing mascara. I have this in the large bottle so I will use it up but I don’t think I’d get this one again. I find with Yves Rocher a lot of their items are hit or miss for me so I either love and repurchase an item over and over or I get something and am super unimpressed by it, this one is of the latter.

Makeup-Removing Balms

Clinique Take the Day Off Cleansing Balm
$38.00 CAD (125 mL)

MakeupRemovers_Review_LBL (3)

If I’m wearing a lot of makeup, say for an evening out or event I like using balms to remove it because they break down my mascara, eyeshadow, foundation so well without me needing to tug on my skin. I don’t use them every day only because they can feel oily and I don’t like that feeling on my skin all the time.

MakeupRemovers_Review_LBL (4)

Clinique’s Take the Day Off is a balm that melts into an oil over the skin, removing with it even the toughest makeup. I love this guy because unlike a wipe or micellar water it works perfectly around the eyes. For me, mascara can be very tough to remove, especially because I prefer ones that are waterproof but balms just help the product slip off without damaging my lashes.

Another brand I want to include here is The Body Shop’s Camomile Sumptuous Cleansing Butter because it works just as good and is $17.00 CAD (90 mL). Whenever this guy is on sale I pick it up but the one from Clinique is more affordable if you compare the cost per mL. This does the same thing and is very gentle on the skin.

Urban Decay Makeup Meltdown
$32.00 CAD (100 mL)

MakeupRemovers_Review_LBL (8)

I remember there being so much hype when Urban Decays’ makeup remover line first launched but since then I hardly hear about them. I’ve included this in the makeup removing balm category because like the balms this is more of an oil makeup remover that works super well for heavy makeup removal. I LOVE THIS! You are supposed to spray this onto your hand or cotton pad before applying to the face but I’ve been lazy and sprayed it directly on my face.

MakeupRemovers_Review_LBL (9)

Two sprays have removed my most stubborn makeup and are the best for removing glitter on me. I might rotate through different wipes, micellar waters or even balms, but this product is probably the only one I would repurchase the same of. I’m not sure how many makeups removing sprays there are out there but this is hands down the best.

MakeupRemovers_Review_LBL (1)

These are the makeup removers I’ve been using and testing for the last while. What are some of your favourites or ones that you’ve been trying out? I’m always looking for something new.

Lots of Love,

Unboxing BoxyCharm, February 2018

Price: $21.00 USD (+$5.00 shipping to Canada)
Number of items: 4-5 full-size items

Boxycharm is a monthly subscription box of full-size makeup, skincare and beauty tools. The theme for this month is “Galaxy Glow”.

In the middle of February, BoxyCharm sent me (and likely other Canadian subscribers) an email to expect the box a little later usual because a change in customs policy delayed the box a few days. When my box arrived I noticed a more in-depth declaration label than it usually has. I wonder if BoxyCharm had to redo the declarations so that they could pass through Canadian Customs and that caused the delay. Anyways, I really appreciate that BoxyCharm sent the email to give me a heads up! I would have been worried that my box might have gone missing had they not sent an email. My box was about a week later than usual. I hope that this doesn’t affect future shipments moving forward.

On to what I received!

Prices are in American Dollars, converted to Canadian at the end

Ofra Cosmetics Pop-Up Mini Palette and Blush Godett Refill in Winter Gold Rose
Palette Retail Price: $19.00 US
Blush Retail Price: $12.00 US

The pop-up palette is a magnetic palette for you to put depotted pans into. I think this would fit about 12  standard eyeshadows. I like the style of this palette and how the magnet feels pretty strong. I have a few pans that I’ve depotted over the years so I can use them in something like this.

I love that a blush was included with the palette and it’s a beautiful everyday natural type of colour! It’s a nude rose that would look nice during the summer when my skin is a bit more tanned. I look forward to trying this.

Cover FX Shimmer Veil in Amethyst
Retail Price: $28.00 US

Oh man! I wish I got this guy during the holidays when I was needing something like this for all those holiday parties I attended! Either way, I’m still happy with it now. This is a creamy pale purple shadow with silver micro-glitter that would look cute all over the eyelid in the spring! It’s not as intense as the glitter shadows from Stila so I feel I would wear it a lot more.

UnboxingBoxyCharm_Feb_2018_LBL5tested this on my eyes a day ago and I like that it didn’t crease. The formula is light and creamy but and colour is opaque. It applies evenly over my eyelids. This is the only “glow” product I received in the box.

Vintage Cosmetics Smokey Eye Pencil in Black
Retail Price: $21.00 US

Can’t go wrong with a nice black liner in my books! I didn’t swatch this because I have my Marc Jacobs liner I’m trying to empty from my Project Pan for 2018 so I didn’t want to open this. Hopefully it’s an intense black  that is creamy and long lasting.

Pur the Complexion Authority X-Faux Lip Plumping Exfoliator
Retail Price: $17.00 US

I’ve never seen a plumbing lip exfoliator before but I’m very intrigued by this. I love lip plumpers but the ones I own are in lip gloss form and all of my lip exfoliators are in jars. I like is that this is a twist up pen which should make application easier and more hygienic. I wonder if I’ll see a difference with this plumping my lips. I will test this out and let you all know what I think!

Crown Pro Trio Brush Set
Retail Price: $29.99 US

I was immediately excited about the medium sized brush in this set because I imagine it would be perfect for blending out concealer. It just has the right amount of density for me that I would think it would be great for that. The large sized brush would be great to powder under the eyes or as a blush brush and the small sized brush would be good to apply eyeshadow.

I am quite obsessed with brushes and these ones are super soft and really light. The only downside is the handles are really chunky which makes it harder for me to store them in my brush roll.

My Thoughts

Although this box doesn’t go along with the glow theme, I still think the items are good. I am happy with the brushes and Ofra palette and the blush. Total Value of my box, $126.99 ($163.72)!

Did you get BoxyCharm this month? Did you experience any delays in shipping? What items did you get?

Lots of Love,

Bye Bye Empties: February 2018

Here’s some wishful thinking, but I imagine Spring might be coming a bit early! I’m surprised at how many beautiful and mild days we had in Toronto. Usually, February brings with it a dip in temperatures and a feeling that Winter is never going to end. This time around it’s been so pleasant! I hope that March is the same!

I have lots of skincare empties for this month because I’ve been focusing on keeping hydrated!

FebEmpties2018LBL (6)

Yves Rocher Pink Grapefruit Vitamin Face Mist. This item was unexciting. I use face mists all the time but this guy didn’t leave me feeling too hydrated so I would have to spray quite a bit of it on my face to feel like it did anything. Plus I didn’t like the mist. It just splattered onto my face. I will not be repurchasing this.

Estee Lauder Nutritious Night. I really enjoyed this night cream! I shared a review on this which you can read here. I didn’t need very much product so this lasted me quite a long time. I think this particular cream is discontinued, or the name has changed. I have a few other night creams from Estee Lauder that I’m looking forward to trying next.

FebEmpties2018LBL (5)

Secret Nature Rose Mask Sheet. I’m not exactly sure how I got this mask. I think it may have been from my sister. Either way, I absolutely loved the scent. It wasn’t a sweet rose scent, but it lingered on my skin for some time after I removed the mask. This is supposed to even skin tone. I have been using a lot of skin care items the last few months and I feel like in general, my skin has been looking good so I can’t say if this one did anything special.

REN Evercalm Global Protection Day Cream. I was happy with how much I liked this cream. A little pea sized amount was good for my whole face so this little sample lasted me about a week and a half being used every day. The Global Protection Cream is supposed to combat chronic discomfort, redness, and sensitivity. I don’t suffer from those issues but it did feel like my skin did feel moisturized and it was really soothing. It has a very earthy scent which I quite enjoyed as well. I have quite a few moisturizers that I need to use so I don’t think I’ll be repurchasing this anytime soon.

REN Keep Young and beautiful Instant Firming Beauty Shot. I used this just once but it pilled on me so I don’t think I’ll be purchasing a full size. It does have a slight tightening feeling so I’m sure it does firm the skin, it just didn’t work for me.

FebEmpties2018LBL (4)

Peter Thomas Roth Anti-Aging Cleansing Gel. If you read my review of this face wash back in my Summer Night Time Routine you would know already that I didn’t care for this but I was just trying to use it up. I’m not repurchasing this but I’m soooooo happy it’s empty now!

Bioderma Sensibio H2O Makeup Removing Micelle Solution for Sensitive Skin. This is the third large bottle I’ve emptied and I still have another one open which is even with the pump in the cap that I’m using up along with one from Yves Rocher. I like this for breaking down my mascara before I wash my face and sometimes when I’m really lazy and am wearing minimal makeup, I’ll use only this to wash my face. I won’t be repurchasing a new one just yet as I dry to finish up other ones that I have.

Body Care

FebEmpties2018LBL (3)

The Body Shop Shea & Vitamin E body lotion in Butterfly Flower. I really wanted to use up at least half of this but I disliked the scent so much that I couldn’t do it! I had this lotion in my stash for a while that I think maybe the scent might have gotten old. It smells like an old cantaloupe and I don’t like it. I will not be repurchasing this.

Yves Rocher Jardin du Monde Soft Shower Cream in Cotton Flower from India. I feel like every 3rd month I include this body wash into my empties post but I really like it. The scent is so good and I like that it’s moisturizing. As you probably can guess, I’m repurchasing this.

Softsoap Body Scrub in Coconut Butter. Speaking of a body wash with an amazing scent, I absolutely love this one. It smells so yummy. The scrub on this is a bit harsh but since the actual body wash is creamy it was perfect to prep my skin before shaving or when I wanted to exfoliate and hydrate at the same time. If you’re familiar with Softsoap you know that this brand is super affordable, but damn is this one particular body wash so good! I would repurchase this.

Hair Care

FebEmpties2018LBL (2)

Head & Shoulders dry scalp care shampoo and smooth & silky conditioner. Again, another item that has been a repeat quite a bit on the blog. I have dry hair and a dry scalp. The plus of that is that I literally only need to wash my hair twice a week but the downside is that sometimes it’s so dry it’s flakey. I love the deep clean and scent of head & shoulders. I do rotate my shampoos and conditioners only cause I’m not partial to any particular brand but I do love these ones. I have already repurchased more head & shoulders items.

SOOOOOO, I forgot to take a photo of my Revlon Mega Multiplier Mascara with my cute polka-dot background so I’ll insert one from my one look one week of reviews series below! haha!

Full Face Review_LBL (15)

If you were interested in my thoughts for this you can read them here. In a nutshell, I liked this mascara. Easy to use, not clumpy, the wand is a great shape for my eyes, however, it is reminiscent of the Princess Lash mascara by Essence and I much prefer that one over this. I did use it all up and I was surprised that the formula didn’t dry out as quickly as I thought it would but it’s not anything special when it comes to mascara so I won’t be repurchasing it.

That’s all the items I have used up for February. What was in your empties stash this month? Did you have a lot of repeat items like I seem to have?

Lots of Love,

Unboxing Topbox: February 2018

Price: $12.00 CAD (plus tax, free shipping) 4 items.

Topbox is a Canadian monthly beauty subscription service. Each month you have the option of getting a surprise box or to swap it for a prive box where all the products are from one brand and you know what they are. This month I got a surprise box!

All prices are in Canadian Dollars

Smashbox Be Legendary Liquid Metal in Crimson Chrome
Full Size: $28.00 (8mL), Sample Size: $15.63 (5mL)

I think I saw this colour a lot during the holidays, I have a feeling a received this as a deluxe sample from Sephora or something. Anyways this is a pretty high shine red. The description describes this as a liquid lipstick formula with the full coverage of a lipstick and the shine of a gloss. I haven’t tried this before so I’m for giving it a go.

The Face Shop MASK.LAB Anti-Aging Foil Face Mask
One Mask: $4.00 (25g)

Oh yay! An anti-ageing mask! I am so excited for this. I always enjoy face masks, especially when it’s meant to fight wrinkles. One trick I do is save any extra serum from these overly saturated packets, that way I’ll be able to use them even after I’m done with the mask.

LARITZY Cosmetics Eye Pencil in Shimmer
Full Size: $18.00 (1g), this is a full-size item

I’m happy to receive this in my Topbox because I don’t have any white eye liner pencils. I think they look so pretty in the water line or as an inner lid highlight shade to make your eyes pop. This is a super creamy pencil with a slight pearl-like sheen and isn’t a stark white colour. It’ll look very flattering on the eyes.

Wella Professionals Oil Reflections Luminous Shampoo & Conditioner
Full Size Shampoo: $21.32 (250 mL), Full Size Conditioner: $21.32 (200mL)
Sample Size Shampoo: $4.26 (50 mL), Sample Size Conditioner: $3.20 (30 mL)

A perfect little travelling pair of hair items! These two items are meant to leave the hair deeply cleansed and luminous. It also smells so good! It has a really clean, sweet scent.

My Thoughts
I’m going to start using these items right away. The liner is going to be perfect in spring when I start wearing light makeup looks. I’m hoping the mask can provide some good hydration and improve elasticity as it claims. With my hair feeling dull lately I’m definitely going to put the Wella shampoo and condition to the test. The total value of my box: $45.09.

Did you receive Topbox this month? What was in your box?

Brush Bar: An Innovative Way to Dry Your Brushes!

I’m super excited to share this review of a cool new way I’ve been cleaning and drying my brushes. A few weeks ago, I was offered the ability to test out the Brush Bar and Brush Board*. As someone who enjoys cleaning their makeup brushes, I jumped at the opportunity!

So what is the Brush Bar?

A brush drying tool with 10 prongs to secure your brushes upside-down while they dry to prevent water from entering the barrel and dissolving the glue.

And what is the Brush Board?

A two-sided brush exfoliator made of firm material to maximize your brush cleaning. There are 6 different textures to scrub around the bristles. In the photos below, I’ve included the little description card that explains what each compartment does.

I was also sent the Brush Bubbly which is a gentle makeup cleanser to use with the Brush Board.

I love the way the Brush Bar and Board were packaged inside of velour carrying cases. It makes it great for storage and is a really nice touch.

What did I think?

The Brush Board is firm so I was able to hold it while I cleaned my brushes. My cleaning technique was to put a little dollop of the Brush Bubbly on the board with a little bit of water and then lathered up each brush. I like the gentleness of this makeup cleanser. Alternately, you can use baby shampoo.

Since the edges of the board are high, the soapy water is contained in each section which made it perfect for lathering up each brush without having to keep my facet running.

I really like that this board is a firm material. I have other brush exfoliators that are silicone but this one feels really sturdy and I can feel the cones and waves working deeply into each brush.

After I lathered all my brushes with soap, I went back and used the various textures on both sides to deep clean and then rinse each of them. In the end, I used the cone side to brush out the bristles from any remaining water. The cone texture is recommended at the end because it helps the brushes dry quickly.

Following that, I put each brush upside down in the prongs for drying on the Brush Bar. The design of these prongs allows for you to hold 2 small, 6 medium and 2 large size brushes.

When the Brush Bar is not in use, you can fold the prongs onto the inside of the board which helps prevent them from getting damaged while storing. Both the Brush Bar and the Brush Board have a sleek design that doesn’t take too much space in my cabinets. I would probably get another board for myself so that I can dry more brushes at one time.

The Bar itself has a nice weight so that it will hold the brushes securely while they dry. As long as the brushes are hanging off a flat, straight surface you don’t need to worry about them falling. The prongs easily open to insert my brushes and the rubber tip help grip the barrels.

My bathroom gets a lot of traffic, so I moved the bar to my kitchen counter where I was able to hang these from an unused corner to dry. You can hang these off a counter, desk, shelf, chair, or any other flat surface. If you have a bathtub, you could also hang it on the inside edge, that way when the water drips it goes directly down the drain.

Before trying this product, I used to tie each brush onto my towel hanger in my bathroom which worked, but this is a lot more convenient because I can hang my brushes in a dry place out of the way. I also love that each brush is separated so it dries quicker.

My Thoughts

The Brush Bar and the Brush Board have made cleaning more fun and easy for me!

The Brush Bar is great for quickly drying my brushes upside down without taking up too much space on my counter and is easy to store. This holds the brushes securely and out of the way. If you use makeup brushes all the time and regularly clean them, then this is definitely worth the investment.

I was pretty surprised at how much I’d like the Brush Board. Since I have a few other brands of brush exfoliators, I didn’t expect to be as wowed by this as I am. I think the 6 different scrubbers are perfect for all the different ways you might want to deep clean your brushes and the sturdiness of the board itself makes cleaning so much easier. The board is really easy to hold in one hand while sweeping the brushes with the other. I actually would recommend this over the Sigma one that I had reviewed a few years back, you can see that review here.

The Brush Bubbly is maybe the only product I could do without only because you can purchase your own cleanser from the drug store, but it still worked really well.

For more information and to order, go to They are based out of the US and ship internationally!

You can use coupon code BEAUTYLOVES15 for 15% off your first purchase! This is a non-affiliate code, but a sweet offer from The Brush Bar Company to all of you!

Let me know what you think of these items. How do you like cleaning your makeup brushes?

Lots of Love,

Review: New Benefit BadGAL Bang! Volumizing Mascara – Is it really out of this World?

Benefit Cosmetics recently launched their newest mascara the Badgal Bang. As a fan of most of their other mascaras, I was super excited about this new release and immediately purchased it from Sephora. I also thought it would be fun to compare this to my other Benefit faves including They’re Real and RollerLash.

So what’s the deal with this new mascara?

Reading the info both on the packaging and on the Sephora website what makes this so special is that the formula contains aero-particles, which are one of the lightest known materials, derived from space technology.  The slimpact! brush is designed to reach from root-to-tip and corner-to-corner of both your upper and lower lashes for big volume with 360-degree reach (

BadGalLash_Review_LBL (4)

Now, I have to give it to Benefit with their unique marketing and a new formula for the mascara. This sounded very interesting and I was intrigued. I haven’t been disappointed with their mascaras in the past so I imagined that I would like it regardless.

$32.00 CAD (8.5 g). I got the mini size for $17.00 (4 g).

How does it Stack Up? BadGalLash_Review_LBL (2)I have loved both the Roller Lash and They’re Real mascara for so many years now. I always keep one of each in my makeup collection at all times. I wanted to compare this new release and see if it performs any better or worse.

BadGalLash_Review_LBL (9)

To keep things fair I put one coat of mascara on. The photos taken are of the same eye in the same lighting (granted the day did start getting darker but I worked as fast as I could). I didn’t curl my lashes.  I hope this gives a good impression of each.

BadGalLash_Review_LBL (8)

BadGAL Bang!

I thought this newest mascara both lengthened and made my lashes appear thicker. The formula does feel seriously light which is so interesting because it feels like nothing on my lashes. It’s also very soft to the touch, unlike both They’re Real and Roller Lash which can feel stiff when dry.

Another difference between this and the other mascaras is the brush is very flexible so it glides over the lashes rather than brushes or tugs at them. The bristles are very short so a lot of product gets dispersed onto the lashes at once.

BadGalLash_Review_LBL (10)

One thing I didn’t really love about the brush tip is that it started clumping my lashes together so I had to comb the brush through a few times to get them to separate.

The black is a crazy deep black, more than my They’re Real and it’s very shiny at first so my lashes looked like they were coated in vinyl. As is dried it looked a lot better.

VS. They’re Real!

I must note that both BadGAL Bang! and They’re Real! are fresh new bottles.

BadGalLash_Review_LBL (12)

They’re Real! Is the first mascara I considered a holy grail. I went a whole year using only this product so I hold it dearly in my heart.

In comparison to BadGAL Bang! this mascara really coats each lash and fans it out. I believe it’s because the brush is a lot stiffer and the actual bristles are longer to help comb in the product. After coating this on my eyes I realized right away that I liked this one much better. It looks like I have way more lashes.

As far as formula goes, this is pretty liquid but not as much as the BadGal Bang. It’s also not as black in colour.

VS. Roller Lash

The only Roller Lash I have to compare is this brown one which is a bit older so the formula has started to dry.

BadGalLash_Review_LBL (11)

What I love about the Roller Lash is that the curved brush hugs the lashes and helps pull them up as it coats them. Since I don’t ever curl my lashes, I feel like this helps to give them a slight bend. You might be able to tell in the photos that my lashes do look more lifted. It doesn’t give me as much volume or length compared to the BadGAL Bang! so I prefer the BadGAL Bang! over this one.

BadGalLash_Review_LBL (5)

Because the BadGAL Bang! brush is shaped like a cone (which is my favourite brush shape) it lifts the ends of my lashes nicely so give them a flirty and fanned effect which is similar to the Roller Lash.

My Thoughts

So this isn’t better then They’re Real for me, but something about the formula is really great because it’s lightweight and feels soft on my lashes. I like when my mascara starts to dry down a little so I’m hoping that in a month or so this will work even better for me.

I will keep testing this mascara and see how it looks when I complete a full eye look. I have so many other brands of mascara that I love too so although I like this compared to other Benefit Mascaras we will see how this holds up to my ultimate favourite mascaras – Lancome’s Monsieur Big or Essence’s Princess Lash!

Have you tried the BadGal Bang? What do you think of this mascara? What is your holy grail mascara?

Too Faced Just Peachy Mattes: Palette Review Series

I was going through a few posts in this series and I’m actually surprised at how many palettes I own!! And I haven’t reviewed them all just yet so look forward to more posts in this series.

Just Peachy Palette_LBL (6)

This post is going to be focused on the Just Peachy Mattes palette I bought on a whim, for really no reason other than just wanting it. The colours are stunning as you’ll see below. I also compared some of the shades to my Too Faced Sweet Peach palette.

What it is

A long-wearing eyeshadow palette with 12 highly-pigmented, matte hues for endless eye looks. Matte shades of warm peaches, buttery creams, and rich browns. (

$55.00 CAD (0.48 oz/ 15 g), this works out to $3.20/g. It’s not too bad per gram compared to my other palettes.

It seems like Too Faced used a plastic gold-coloured packaging. It’s a sturdy package but it’s not like the tin packaging of the chocolate bar palettes. This has a magnetic closure with two cute peach clasps. I love the gradient peach/pink to white cover.

Just Peachy Palette_LBL (7)

I love the mirror in this, it’s the size of the packaging (3×4 inches) and is high quality and super clear. I use the mirrors in my palettes whenever I put on my makeup so it’s important to me that they are as nice as this one is.

The inside is a matte black so the colours really pop against it.

If you’re a person who hated the Sweet Peach Palette scent, you are going to be in for a treat! This has such a small hint of Peach that it’s barely there and really enjoyable. It’s not even as strong as the chocolate bar palette.

Except for Peach Sangria that has sparkle, all of these shadows are matte (which is made obvious by the name). I love these reds, browns and peaches. They also swatch amazingly and have a great colour payoff on the lids.

Just Peachy Palette_LBL (4)

If you look at each row individually the four shades going across work together to create one look, which makes it easy if you want to throw together something quick. Although the tones in this palette are similar I do think it’s very versatile.

Colour Comparison to Sweet Peach Palette

Since I have the Sweet Peach Palette (“SP”) I wanted to compare this against the Just Peachy Mattes Palette (“JPM”). Not surprisingly, a couple of shades were VERY similar;

Just Peachy Palette_LBL (11)

I colour coded each shade I wanted to compare in the photo above. Each is swatched below.

Just Peachy Palette_LBL (12)

SP White Peach vs. JPM Peach Meringue – White peach is a white with a hint of pink while Peach Meringue is more yellow but the difference is hardly noticeable.

SP Candied Peach vs. JPM Just Peachy and JP Peach Punch – I thought Candied Peach in the Sweet Peach palette was shade in between Just Peachy and Peach Punch. Candied peach is a bit brighter with flecks of glitter but otherwise, I think they are very close.

SP Charmed, I’m sure vs. JPM Peach Tarte – These two colours might as well be the same shade in my opinion.

SP Summer Yum vs. JPM Peach Cobbler – Summer Yum is slightly more orange in tone (it’s my favourite shade in this palette) but other it is similar to Peach Cobbler, they even have the exact same texture and feel.

SP Georgia vs. JPM Peaches & Cream – In the pans I thought these would swatch similarly but on my arm, they are pretty different. Georgia is very pink while Peaches & Cream looks more orange.

Just Peachy Palette_LBL (10)

I don’t think it’s worth having both palettes. If you can stand the scent, I would recommend the Sweet Peach Palette because there is a wider variety of shades and finishes. However, if the scent of the Sweet Peach Palette is too strong for you but you want similar peach and brown shades then I recommend the Just Peachy Mattes. If you are curious about my overall thoughts on the Sweet Peach Palette you can read my review here.

Application and Wear

This applies like a dream! I enjoy how my eye makeup looks when I use this palette. It’s easy to blend and build and eyeshadow application easy because it’s so pigmented. None of the shadows are patchy.

This also wears extremely well. The colours don’t fade and I can go a day with it holding up. If I’m going to be going out after work I’ll wear these shades in the morning because I know they will last. I wear concealer on my eyelids which does help, but overall this lasts fairly long.

In the look above I started with Peach Butter all over the eyes. I blended Peach Tea into the crease and darkened the outer half of the crease with Just Ripe. All over the lid, I put Peach Punch and then used Chocolate Dipped as liner along the lash line. In the lower lash line, I used Peach Punch on the inner portion and Just Ripe on the outer portion. I finished the look off with some Lancome Monsieur Big Mascara.

  • blends well
  • very pigmented
  • great packaging
  • barely there scent

  • similar shades to Sweet Peach Palette

My Thoughts

In my collection, I can grab shades from different palettes that I think would work similar to the ones in this palette. Even so, I enjoy the application of these shades very much and prefer this palette when creating a warm-eyed look.

If you have something like this in your collection, like the ABH Modern Renaissance Palette, there isn’t going to be anything new here for you. That being said, if you were on the fence about this particular palette, I think it performs extremely well and would recommend getting it.

Have you tried this palette? What about other more recent launches from Too Faced?

Bye Bye Empties, January 2018

The first month of 2018 is done! Woot! Usually I feel like the months go by quickly but this time around it has felt like a good pace. The last few weeks have been spent hanging out with friends on a weekly basis which is great, my weekends have been filled with coffee dates! I’m also really excited because Feb. 1 is my birthday so I have a fun-filled week/weekend planned for that too! I’m really looking forward to February!

MUJI Foam Face Wash for Sensitive Skin. I did a mini-review of this as part of my Summer Night Time Routine. I really enjoyed this cleanser but the more I used it the more I felt like it would irritate around my eyes, contrary to my original review. I don’t have sensitive eyes but it wasn’t very pleasant. I still enjoyed it for the rest of my face. I will not be repurchasing this.

Buff Her House of Exfoliation Vanilla Almond Crumbles. I shared this in my November 2017 Favourites from the Boxes.  I loved mixing this in with my cleansers. I used a bit more than half the jar but unfortunately, it doesn’t smell as good anymore so I’m just going to toss it.

Olay Prox Exfoliating Cleanser. This came with my Olay Facial Cleansing Brush as a deluxe sample. I’ve included a link here if you wanted to know what I’m talking about. I used this cleanser a few times before moving on to other ones. I actually prefer to use the Olay Brush with my foam cleansers. This product is not empty but it’s been expired for about 6 months when I found it in my bathroom so I’ve decided to toss it. I won’t be repurchasing this.

Vichy Mineral 89 Sample. I loved the consistency of this serum. It’s gel-like (very similar to Benefit’s Instant Come Back serum) and it was super hydrating. I got about 3 uses out of this sample. I’ve been making a point to go through a lot of my samples and deluxe size items so I have a lot of other serums to get through before I can decide if I want to invest in a full size.

Inglot Milk & Tonic Makeup Remover Wipes. I shared this in an Haul I did back in September. I thought this was OK. It works fine if you don’t wear too much makeup but I was hoping that it would be better for eye makeup and mascara removal. It wasn’t. I won’t be repurchasing this.

Empties_January 2018 (2)

Benefit Gimme Brow. I prefer this tiny sample because it lasts me about 3 months, the perfect amount of time before the product dries up! I already have a new sample open for use (in the newer Benefit packaging).

Empties_January 2018 (3)

Benefit They’re Real Tinted Primer. I shared a review of this item way back on the blog here. I noted that I really liked it but it wouldn’t be something I would go out and buy. Well, this particular tube was a gift BUT I enjoyed this so much I did end up repurchasing it! It’sperfect for when I am doing a minimalistic look!

Beauty Blender. It was time to throw this one out. I have replaced it with the Beauty Blender Pro (the black one) which I’m curious about how much different it works compared to the pink one.

Body Care

Coppertone Clearly Sheer Sunscreen. There isn’t a sunscreen that I enjoy using more than this one. I was introduced to this through Beauty Blogger Network when they sent this to me to try but since then I’ve been repurchasing it on my own. I’ve gone into detail on my thoughts here.

A Girl’s Gotta Spa Energizing Citrus Body Lotion. I enjoyed this product so much! It’s great for my dry skin and I really loved the scent. You can read my review here. I will be repurchasing this.

L’Oreal Ever Fresh Balancing System Sample. I was curious about this hair wash system that I requested a sample from the L’Oreal website when it was available online (I’ve signed up for which notifies you whenever a brand is giving out samples – just a great way to test out new products). A hairstylist friend of mine once suggested I use my exfoliating body wash to really deep clean my scalp and this totally reminds me of that. The first step is to use a micro-exfoliant to scrub your scalp then follow it with the shampoo and conditioner. I thought this was great. I probably would repurchase just the exfoliating scrub because I love my own shampoos.

Alterra Caviar CC Cream 10 in 1. I got this as a deluxe sample from Sephora. I really love this brand and I did enjoy this cream until I compared it to my Pantene Pro-V Ultimate 10 BB Cream, you can see my review on the blog. These products actually claim to do the same thing except Pantene is way cheaper! I don’t think I’ll be repurchasing it.

These were all the items I was able to use up for the month! What items have you used up?

Lots of Love,
