Pretty Vulgar Nightingale Smokey Eyeshadow Palette
MSRP: $35.00 USD

UnboxingBoxycharm_Sept2018_LBL (9)

Oh yes! An everyday type of palette, this so my style. I love that the colours are cool/neutral rather than warm because I have so many warm palettes in my collection. I was tempted to do swatches for this post but I actually wanted to test the eyeshadow and do a review on it so look out for that soon!

This is described as a highly pigmented shadow, the shades are soft and smooth for easy blending and long-wear. I saw a few first impressions of this online and they look really positive.

Laura Gellar Baked Blush-N-Bright in Tropic Hues
MSRP: $28.00 USD

UnboxingBoxycharm_Sept2018_LBL (3)

This baked blush leaves your skin with a glowy flush to the cheeks. It’s very shimmery and lightly pigmented which is great if you like a stuble wash of colour on the cheeks and a little dewy finish.

I love bold cheek colours so for me I might wear this as a cheek topper. I think it’s absolutely gorgeous.  This is paraben free and infused with antioxidants.

Alamar Cosmetics Ojitos Brush Set
MSRP: $18.00 USD

UnboxingBoxycharm_Sept2018_LBL (7)

I fell head over heals for the Alamar eyeshadow palette that I received in my June BoxyCharm so I’m really excited to see more items from this brand in my box! These brushes are 100% synthetic but are extremely soft.

UnboxingBoxycharm_Sept2018_LBL (8)

This three brush set includes;

Flat Pointer Brush, to apply shadow all over the lid. It’s very dense so I think this would be really good for glitter or metallic shadows.

Fluffy Blender Brush, to blend colours together. This one is extremely soft and flexible so I think it will work really well to blend out colours. It’s very fluffy. I am most excited about this one.

Flat Tight Liner, well, to do just that line your eyes. I actually really love using brushes like this to apply shadow on my lower eye lids. I know some people like to use brushes like this for their brows too.

I’m pretty excited about this set. I like that the handles are thin making it easy for me to store them and to hold.

Hank & Henry Liquid Lipstick in Petal Pusher
MSRP: $17.00 USD

UnboxingBoxycharm_Sept2018_LBL (12)

This smells like icing! OH MY GOODNESS how I find it so delicious! This packing is actually pretty cool too. I thought it was a bullet lipstick in a clear case but when I screwed it open I realized it was a liquid lipstick.

I like the raspberry colour and the pigmentation of this liquid lip is amazing. One sweep and you have bold colour. It’s also very comfortable on. I think the applicator is interesting but useful. It’s got a wider base and comes to a sharp tip which makes it really easy to be precise with application.

Butter London Stroke of Wow Roll On Liner
MSRP: $19.00 USD

UnboxingBoxycharm_Sept2018_LBL (15)

I was unimpressed when I saw this item in my box. It’s a liner with a roller tip, kinda like a pizza cutter. It’s supposed to make application much easier but I’ve seen a few youtubers try it with not much success.

UnboxingBoxycharm_Sept2018_LBL (16)

I’ll give it a shot and see how I like it. I wear liner a lot but I don’t know if this would be easier than a felt tip. When I did a swatch on my hand I was really impressed with the formula which makes this a lot my disappointing in my opinion, why couldn’t they just make this felt tip!

Swatches!

UnboxingBoxycharm_Sept2018_LBL (17)

My Thoughts

Over all I’m pretty happy with this box! Beside the Butter London eyeliner, everything else is an item that I’m pretty excited to try. I’m most excited about the eyeshadow palette and brush set!

Did you receive BoxyCharm this month? What was in your box?

Lots of Love,

My Most Used Makeup Brushes

I took a count of the number of brushes I currently own and have over 50. Now, as I was growing up and getting into makeup I was constantly purchasing new brushes as I tried to find what was right for me and how I like to apply my makeup. That’s how my collection became the size it is now. I’ve purged a lot of brushes since then too.

FaveBrushes_LBL12

Every once in a while I’ll pick up a new brush here and there as I feel like my skills improve or when I need a brush to do something specific. From all these brushes I’m sharing the five that I enjoy using the most and feel I reach for almost everytime I do my makeup.

MAC 129SE Powder Brush

FaveBrushes_LBL2

This brush is one of the oldest brushes I own and one of the first in my collection. When I first began building my collection I knew I wanted MAC brushes but couldn’t afford to just buy three or four large brushes at a time. Instead, I’d wait until they would release their holiday collection brushes and buy those sets. The handles were shorter but generally, the quality of the brushes were the same.

FaveBrushes_LBL3

I’ve used this brush for powder, blush and recently it has transitioned to my main bronzer brush. It’s extremely soft and fluffy which makes it good for dispersing product very lightly and evenly all over the face. I also like the shorter handle because it makes it much easier to grip and control.

Tarte Foundation Brush from the 2017 Holiday Collection

FaveBrushes_LBL4

I shared this in a Tarte Boxing Day Sale Haul at the beginning of this year. I was so happy that a snagged the 5-piece brush set for only $21.00CAD! That’s less than the cost of one brush. All of these brushes are pretty great but the foundation brush has actually been the one I reach for the most. Since the brush is large it makes applying foundation super quick. The brush is densely packed but extremely soft so it spreads my makeup evenly without leaving any streaks. I like this when I’m applying a light to medium coverage foundation because it really spreads it out nicely.

FaveBrushes_LBL5

I took a look at what they were offering this year as far as a brush collection, but I’m not sure I can recommend any of them. The closest this brush appears to be is to the Airbrush Finish Foundation Brush which is currently $44.00CAD – but if I know Tarte, it’ll be on sale soon enough at a price that is much less with a discount on top so keep an eye out for that if you were interested in buying one.

Crown Brushes Pro Brush For Concealer

FaveBrushes_LBL6

This was part of a trio I received in my February 2017 BoxyCharm. The moment I got this brush I wanted to use it for concealer. Crown brushes are really affordable and nice brushes. I definitely think they are great if you want to start building a collection without spending too much money. This brush is dense and great for blending out concealer both under the eyes and over the lid when I want to use concealer as a base for eyeshadow.

FaveBrushes_LBL7

I find this way easier for me to use compared to a beauty blender. I just find that I can spread the product further with this compared to a sponge. Also, I don’t feel the need to wash my brush as often as I might a sponge. I know, maybe that’s not super hygienic, but I think this brush absorbs less product than my sponge does so I get more mileage out of it.

Inglot 4SS Large Blending Brush

FaveBrushes_LBL8

This brush is newer to my eye brush collection. I bought this in an Inglot Haul back in October of 2017, but it’s my most favourite blending brush. It’s really large, so you could even use it as a highlighter brush. I like using it to diffuse my eyeshadow or when I’m building a light shade in my crease. This has really made blending out my eyeshadow super easy and it leaves it looking like I’ve been blending for hours! I also love it for one sweep eyeshadow looks because it’s so large.

FaveBrushes_LBL9

It makes it look like I’m a pro blender when it comes to eyeshadow. It’s a brush I was missing in my collection for a long time and I didn’t think I would use it as much as I do now but it really makes eyeshadow application (especially in the crease) so much easier. If you have large eyes or a large lid space like I do, I think you’d really enjoy a brush like this.

MAC 222 Blending Brush

FaveBrushes_LBL10

Finally, we round it all up with another MAC brush and another blending brush! My collection is full of blending brushes because that’s what I think I struggled the most to get right as I was building my collection. I think I have about 10-15 blending brushes in different sizes and shapes because that’s where I spend the most time when I’m applying makeup. For me, this size brush fits perfectly in my crease and really helps blend colours there.

FaveBrushes_LBL11

I have considered purchasing multiples of this brush so I’d have some on hand for when I want to use multiple colours on my eyes, but the price of MAC brushes always holds me back. The brush hairs are long and have a medium density which is perfect for blending colours. It’s also a good size that I don’t feel like it spreads my eye makeup outside where I want it to be.

Thoughts

FaveBrushes_LBL1

If I could share ALL the brushes I love using, I’d have such a long post so I kept it to brushes that I find make makeup application the easiest for me and I use the most. There was a time when I was obsessed with brushes, even more so than makeup itself and I wanted to collect as many as I could because like I mentioned before I really struggled to find ones that were right for me. Has anyone else had that?

How was it for you when building up your collection of brushes? Did you know what you were looking for or was it trial and error as it was for me? I’d love to know! Also, what are your fave brushes?

Lots of Love,
Dal

Unfaves From the Boxes

I mentioned in my last Faves From the Boxes post that I wanted to share some items that I wasn’t a fan of from my subscription boxes. Usually, if I get an item I know I’m not going to use I pass it along to my friends, family or donate them. Sometimes, I’m intrigued by the item and try it and it doesn’t live up to my expectations. Below are a few that didn’t work out for me.

BareMinerals Face Perfecting Brush
Received in BoxyCharm September 2017

UnfavesSeptember2018_LBL (4)

I used this brush quite a bit in the beginning and liked it. I would pump a bit of my foundation into the dip in the centre and blend it over my face. The brush was dense but still soft and I thought it did a good job of applying foundation to my face. That was until I got a bit closer to the mirror and noticed the terrible amount of streak it left. It really just moved product around and I didn’t like the finish it left. The one way I could get it to perform better is if I continued to blend or followed it up with my beauty blender. Now if I’ve got to grab another application tool to make this work, then I’m out!

UnfavesSeptember2018_LBL (5)

It’s too bad it didn’t work out for me because the idea behind the brush was really good. I will try this with my mineral foundation and see if it’s better (it is a BareMinerals product after all) but for liquid foundation it’s a no go.

South Mane Beauty Under Eye Gels
Received in BoxyCharm March 2018

UnfavesSeptember2018_LBL (9)

The moment I tried these I did not like them! This came in a pack of three so I decided to give it a second shot, but still, it was awful. It has a very uncomfortable tingle and after I removed the gel I felt like it accentuated my dark circles.

UnfavesSeptember2018_LBL (1)

Now, there may be an ingredient in this that I’m unaware I’m sensitive to but it just didn’t do what it claims to do on me. If you have sensitive skin, I would not recommend this product.

Laritzy Cosmetics Silicone Makeup Blender
Received in Topbox November 2017

UnfavesSeptember2018_LBL (6)

Now I knew I didn’t like these style blenders. I had one from Amazon and it just smeared my foundation everywhere on my face. However, when reading the description of the Laritzy blender they suggested using it to blend skincare products and I thought maybe it could be better for that. I tried it on and off for a few weeks with my skincare and I felt the same way I did about foundation. It really didn’t help spread the skincare and it would just sit on top of my face and didn’t feel like it aided with anything.

UnfavesSeptember2018_LBL (7)

I’m much better off using my fingers and gently tapping products in. I also thought this might be good for spreading around clay masks but it was terrible for that, it left everything in a streak. I really don’t know what would be best used for these blenders!

My Thoughts

I know not everything will always work for me and I did try to make the items above work. I’m sure someone is probably really enjoying these products and that’s good because I’m sure it’s what the brands intended.

Have you tried any of the items above? If you get subscription boxes what are some items you’ve received that you did not enjoy?

Lots of love,
Dal

Bye Bye Empties, August 2018

August was so much fun! I enjoyed a few trips to the beaches, spent a day at the Toronto Islands and went on a bachelorette trip with my girlfriends to Le Spa Nordik located in Chelsea, Quebec! I took about a week and a half break from blogging to enjoy the weather! I’m so excited that September is around the corner because it’s the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) and I always try to see some movies during that time.

Anyways! Below are the items I was able to finish up for August!

Skincare

EmptiesAugust_LBL (4)

Ole Henriksen Truth on the Glow Cleansing Cloths. A few weeks ago, I started testing some items from Ole Henriksen. One of those items included their Truth on the Glow cleansing cloths. I got a small 10 cloth pack to see how I would like them. Unfortunately, I didn’t. Firstly, the wipes were pretty small. They were rectangular and unlike other wipes that I could spread out across my palms, these felt really short and awkward to hold. Secondly, this wasn’t the best at removing mascara. I found I would have to really rub around my eyes to get anything out and then just decided to only use this on my face and stick to micellar waters around my eyes. I did like that this added some moisturizer to my skin since it does have vitamin C and jojoba seed oil. Overall, it’s not what I’m looking for in a face wipe so I won’t be repurchasing this.

Simple Moisturizing Facial Wash. I completely enjoyed this face wash! It was so gentle on the skin but highly effective at removing my makeup and leaving my skin feel super clean. I found that a small pea amoung was all I really needed for my face if I used too much it actually wasn’t as effective and would feel pretty slippery. It has a mild lather and no scent. I do have a few facial washes that I’m getting through currently but I would definitely pick this up again!

EmptiesAugust_LBL (5)

Peter Thomas Roth Retinol Fusion PM Night Serum. This was featured in my Summer Night Time Routine in 2017 and it lasted me sooooo long! I use this at least 3-4 nights a week (about 4-5 drops on the face) so for the cost ($83.00 CAD for 30mL) I feel it wasn’t so bad! Plus, I did drop this once and a bit of the product did drip out so I feel like if that didn’t happen it would have lasted me at least another few weeks. When I noticed this was getting empty I did go on a hunt for more affordable anti-ageing serums that I’m going to be using up next but I would be ready to splurge on another bottle of this!

Body Care

EmptiesAugust_LBL (6)

Elancyl Slim Design Night. I received this in my June 2018 Topbox and I honestly wasn’t expecting to see a difference because this looked to be a small sample and usually items designed to target cellulite don’t always work. Well, I’m not sure if it was this packet or me being more active in the summer or both but I feel like I see a reduced appearance of cellulite on my thighs. The sample did last me about 5 days and it says that it takes 7 to start seeing results so maybe it did start working! It’s expensive so I am on the fence about actually purchasing it. They sell these online at Shoppers Drug Mart’s Beauty Boutique so maybe I’ll wait for a Spend Your Points Event to get it.

Samples

EmptiesAugust_LBL (8)

I spent a lot of this month using up samples which is why there aren’t as many full-size items here. Instead of sharing all my samples I’ll share the ones I enjoyed the most.

Rita Hazan Triple Threat Split End Remedy. First off, this smells amazing! I love putting this in my hair and whenever I get a little whiff of it during the day it just makes me feel so good. It’s a great oil because it helps to seal off split ends. I picked up a few samples of this in my recent Sephora orders so I have a few to hold me over for the next little while.

The Face Shop White Seed Blanclouding White Moisture Cream. Sometimes I forget how awesome the Face Shop products are, especially since most things are very well priced. This face cream really left my skin feeling moisturized without it being too heavy. It also absorbed into my skin pretty quickly which I like. I have so many moisturizers so I may not be repurchasing this in the near future but I am keeping it on my radar for when I do need new creams!

Roundup

Those are all my empties for August! Since I rarely wear much in terms of makeup I didn’t use up as much as I would hope but I am happy to be putting some full-size items into my empties bin.

What have you used up for August?

Lots of love,
Dal

Summer Walk at High Park

I’ve mentioned in a few posts just how beautiful the summer has been. It’s been crazy warm and humid. For instance, this summer in Toronto, the temperature has been hovering around 30 degrees Celsius + (plus humidex running some days into 40-degree Celsius). That’s about 86 degrees Fahrenheit!

I’ve taken advantage of the wonderful weather this summer by enjoying walks home after work, heading to the beach on weekends, and taking walks through the various parks in Toronto.

highparkwalk (6)A few weeks ago I took a walk through High Park which a 399-acre park west of the Downtown area. This park is beautiful because it is full of unique gardens, lots of picnic areas, a lovely little restaurant, and a free zoo. It attracts many visitors all year round. It’s also the site of the Cherry Blossoms in Spring which I shared on my Instastories. highparkwalk (1)It was a really beautiful day when I went up to the park. I took a day off work and decided that I would go and enjoy breakfast at the restaurant in the center of the park and a little walk. There are so many gorgeous gardens to enjoy, the morning was so quiet so I felt like I had the park all to myself.highparkwalk (3)I got to the restaurant early morning. There were a few people also enjoying breakfast catching up with family and friends. It really is a good place to go to if you ever have plans to be in the park. The menu is pretty simple, but if you want to grab a quick bite it’s perfect if you decide to leave your picnic at home.

Afterwards, I walked through the park towards the lake. I love being near the water and living so close to Lake Ontario I get to experience it everyday!

highparkwalk

I got back home just before the mid-day heat kicked in!

I can’t wait for Autumn to see all the leaves in High Park turn red, orange, and yellow! This week has been pretty hot, but I’m looking forward to cooler weather soon!

What are some activities you did this summer?

Lots of love,
Dal

Unboxing Topbox, August 2018

Price: $12.00 CAD (plus tax, free shipping) 4 items.

Topbox is a Canadian monthly beauty subscription service. Each month you have the option of getting a surprise box or to swap it for a prive box where all the products are from one brand or fall within a theme and you know what they are. This month I opted for the Prive Box! Topbox was offering 2 or 3 versions of the Cosmetics Magazine Awards Privé Boxes this year and I wished for the first one and got it!

Prices are in Canadian Dollars.

Shiseido Urban Environment UV Protection Cream SPF 40
Full Size: $34.00 (50 mL), Sample Size: $10.20 (15 mL)

UnboxingTopbox_August2018_LBL4

This was my main attraction to this specific Prive Box. I really enjoy Shiseido products, especially their skincare so whenever I have an opportunity to test them out I always go for it. I think the other boxes had Shiseido products as well but I really wanted the UV protection to take with me on my weekend trip to Chelsea, Quebec. This is an ultra-hydrating, feather-light daily sunscreen for face and body.

Rimmel London Stay Matte Liquid Lip Colour in Pink Bliss
Full Size: $7.98 (6.5 mL), this is a full-size item

UnboxingTopbox_August2018_LBL8

Gosh, the colour on this is sooo pretty!  It’s a rose pink which I thought looked really pretty when I wore it. It has an interestingly shaped applicator, with it being a little more triangular and edgy. The texture is whipped and creamy but it does apply streakily so what I did was apply one layer, allow it to dry for a minute and then applied a second layer.

UnboxingTopbox_August2018_LBL9

Once it’s completely dry it looks pretty and matte. It also was long-wearing, more than I thought it would be. It lasted through my day including drinking and eating which surprised me. I might actually pick up more shades of this formula.

Narciso Rodriguez For Her Fleur Musc
Full Size: $144 (100 mL), $1.44 (1mL)

UnboxingTopbox_August2018_LBL5

I love Narcisco Rodriguez scents, one of my favourites is the For Her EDT perfume. This has notes of roses, spices, and amber wood. I think it’s very pretty.

Vichy Laboratories Minéral 89 Fortifying and Plumping Daily Booster
Full Size: $39.95 (50 mL), Sample Size: $4.00 (5 mL)

UnboxingTopbox_August2018_LBL7

This was the second item that I was most drawn to in this Prive Box. I really love Vichy skincare and have written about them in previous blog posts and on my Instagram. I had tried a few packet samples of this daily booster serum and really loved it. This is a mix of Vichy’s mineral water concentrated to 89% with natural origin hyaluronic acid. It is made to help skin stronger against aggressors like pollution, stress and fatigue.

Clarins Double Serum [Hydric+Lipidic System]
Full Size: $120 (50 mL), Sample Size (x6): $12.96 (5.4 mL)

UnboxingTopbox_August2018_LBL6

More skincare! Can you start to see why I wanted this Prive Box?! This is an anti-ageing treatment. Although I would have preferred this in one little tube rather than a bunch of tiny packets I do really like this for travel. I’ve actually used this when I’ve been travelling before and this really does re-invigorate my skin. Clarins has so many skincare items, I really want to explore more from this brand!

My Thoughts

Whenever I chose a prive box over a surprise box I know I’m going to love every item because that was the reason why I chose that box in the first place. I really am happy that I got this box because you aren’t guaranteed to get the prive boxes, it’s always dependant on how many they might have to go around. All of the skincare items are ones that are tried and true to me or ones that I really want to try. I’m also really surprised by the Rimmel Liquid lipstick so that’s always nice too!

Total Value: $36.58 CAD

Did you get Topbox this month? What is your favourite skincare item?

Unboxing Boxycharm, August 2018

Price: $21.00 USD (+$5.00 shipping to Canada)
Number of items: 4-5 full-size items

Boxycharm is a monthly subscription box of full-size makeup, skincare and beauty tools. The theme for this month is “Life of the Party”.

Laura Lee Los Angeles Party Animal Eyeshadow Palette
MSRP: $19.00 USD

UnboxingBoxyCharm_August2018_LBL7

This is a six pan pressed pigment palette of really colourful shades. I do have a few palettes of shades that are similar in other palettes and to be honest, I’m not really drawn to the colours here (although online reviews have suggested the palette is good) so I might just pass this one along to someone else.

UnboxingBoxyCharm_August2018_LBL8

I would have much preferred receiving the Boss Babe palette which was the six pan everyday neutrals palette, you can see it here. Those colours really speak to me! Also, I really don’t think that I can’t use this as a stand-alone palette, you’d need to set a base up with another palette and then use these as pops of colour. A palette that I think is really colourful but still works well on its own is the Alamar palette I got in my June BoxyCharm. Anyways, the packaging is really pretty though. I like the feel of the case, it has almost that rubbery texture and it feels very sturdy.

House of Lashes in Bambie
MSRP: $12.00 USD

UnboxingBoxyCharm_August2018_LBL4

These are really pretty wispy lashes. I like how there are a few lighter lashes mixed with the darker lashes to make them look a touch more natural.

UnboxingBoxyCharm_August2018_LBL5

These might be a long but I could definitely wear them to an evening out when I’m getting all done up. I also really love the band on these because it is thin and clear. These lashes are cruelty-free.

Smashbox Be Legendary Lipstick in Straight Up
MSRP: $24.00 USD

UnboxingBoxyCharm_August2018_LBL10

Online this was described as terracotta cream and it’s a really pretty chocolate brown shade. I love brown-nude shades but this is much different than what I have because it looks straight brown on my lips, it totally gives me that 90s vibe.

UnboxingBoxyCharm_August2018_LBL11

I think this is going to be amazing to wear in the Fall! I tried this on the lips and it’s super pigmented so one swipe is all you need and it’s also very comfy on the lips. It doesn’t feel like anything which I love.

Bang Beauty Chocolate Eye Liner
MSRP: $22.00 US

UnboxingBoxyCharm_August2018_LBL9

A few boxes ago I got an awesome black liner from Pretty Vulgar in my BoxyCharm, this month I was super excited to get a brown liner! I actually LOVE brown liners, I always keep a set of black and brown pencil liners and liquid liners and now I have a set of gel ones! I haven’t tested this to know for sure if it’s good but I am excited to try it. You can use this as eyeliner, an eyeshadow base or to touch up brows. Sounds pretty interesting.

Wander Beauty Baggage Claim Gold Eye Masks
MSRP: $13.00 US

UnboxingBoxyCharm_August2018_LBL6

These gold foil eyeshadows are meant to hydrate under the eyes and reduce the appearance of dark circles. They have hyaluronic acid, lavender oil and aloe oil which all work together to reduce wrinkles and to cool and soothe your undereye. I can’t wait to test these out!

Adesse Organic Infused Age Defying Nail Treatment Essentials Sweet Almond Cuticle Oil
MSRP: $18.00 US

UnboxingBoxyCharm_August2018_LBL3

When I first saw this package I thought it was a nail lacquer because I didn’t read the description on the box and I was pleasantly surprised when I saw it was a nail treatment! As you may know, I don’t wear nail polish on my nails, only on my toenails, but I still apply treatments and oils to my cuticle and nail area to keep them strong. The one I currently have is getting old so this will make a good replacement. This is formulated with Vitamin E, Shea, Sweet Almond, and Jojoba Oils that are blended together to create a luxurious treatment that softens the cuticles moisturizes and hydrates the nails (boxycharm.com).

My Thoughts

I think this was an ok box. The last few months I’ve been overly excited about my boxes but this was alright for me. I could do without the palette (even if I have a million neutral palettes, I still prefer them over colourful ones). I’m really happy with everything else, especially the cuticle oil and chocolate gel liner!

Total Value: $108.00 US (141.30 CAD)

Bye Bye Empties, July 2018

July was so beautiful in Toronto! The weather has been spectacular with lots of super hot days and almost no rain! Yay! Some things I’ve done this month include throwing a bridal shower for one of my really good friends, going to the beach and having lots of walks in the parks nearby my home. I’m really lucky that I live right next to the lake so it makes heading to the water super convienient.

I’m looking forward to more fun in August! I’m hoping to make a trip out to the Toronto Islands (they are a 15 min ferry ride off the main land). I’ll be heading to Ottawa/Chelsea for a nice spa bachelorette weekend with my girlfriends. The last two weeks of August is the Canadian Nation Exhibition which I always attend. There are so many exciting things to do!

Now I’m going to share a few items that I used up in July. It’s not too many products, but I have a lot of itens that are almost empty so I’m guessing August might have a lot, especially with it being end of the summer.

Skincare

Yves Rocher Sebo Vegetal Purifying Micellar Water 2 in 1

JulyEmpties_2018_LBL (2)

Almost every month now I’ve been sharing an empty from Yves Rocher. There was a time when almost all my makeup/skincare was exclusively from them. I really do love this brand and although some things are hits or misses when they are hits they are really amazing! This guy was a hit for me at first but the more I used it the more I found it was really irritating around the eyes. I gues it’s understandable because it is a purifying micellar water. It worked really great around the face but not so much for mascara. I did include this in my Review of Makeup Removers but even then I knew I wouldn’t repurchase it.

Shiseido Benefiance WrinkleResist 24 Intensive Eye Contour Cream

JulyEmpties_2018_LBL (4)

I have three of these little mini eye creams sitting in my collection that I’ve been holding on to so I don’t have to splurge on the full size tube just yet. Since I use so little a little sample size such has this lasts me about one and a half months. I still have one sample to use up but after that I will probably buy the full size cream because this has been very effective for me.

Haircare

Garnier Fructis Colour Vibrancy Treat 1 Minute Hair Mask

JulyEmpties_2018_LBL (3)

I got this to review a bit ago but the product is really nice. I used it mostly in place of my conditioner. I’d leave it in my hair for a few minutes then rinse it out and towel dry my hair afterwards. It left me feeling like my hair was less frizzy and super soft. I liked this a lot. I also really liked the scent of it. It smells very much like fresh strawberries. I would repurchase this.

Makeup

JulyEmpties_2018_LBL (5)

Too Faced Melted Lipstick in Chihuahua

I LOVE this chocolatey nude lipstick and I really like this formula because it was long wearing on me. This may be the first lipstick I’ve ever really emptied which I’m super proud of myself for. Funny thing is, it’s only the deluxe size. I probably wouldn’t repurchase it only because I don’t wear lipstick so much.

Dermablend Professional Long-Wear Makeup Remover

This deluxe sample was part of an order I made with Beautyboutique a while ago. Although I didn’t like it in the beginning I grew to really love it towards the end. What I would do was massage this over my face and let it soak in while I showered. After that I would wipe some of it off with a cotton pad then wash my face completely with facewash. I felt that by doing that it was really leave my skin makeup free. I still prefer my Urban Decay Makeup Meltdown or my Clinque take the day off balm but I thought it wasn’t too bad.

Blaq Eye Mask

This might be the very first eye mask that I’ve tested that I’ve actually really enjoyed! It held up on my face really well and didn’t slide off like most eye masks would. I used this on a day I was having trouble waking up and needing an eyemask to hydrate under my eyes. This left the skin under my eyes super hydrated. I really liked this and would repurchase again.

Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser and Moisturizing Lotion

I think a product like this is really great because it works for body and face. I really like the formula because it was very gentle on my skin. I tested this duo for both my face and body and thought the cleanser was really nice for the body and face. The lotion was better for my body but I wouldn’t us it on my face because I like more hydration. I would definitely purchase this in the full size because it would be great for traveling.

Well there are all my July empties! I feel like their were some items I discovered in the sample sizes that I would definitely get as full-size products. I really hope that I can finish more items in August!

What was in your empty stash for July?

Lots of love,
Dal

Review, Hightlighter Collection

I was going through my makeup box the other day and organizing a lot of it’s contents. Since the time I started sharing my empties each month, I’ve been much more diligent about using up items I have open, rather than just opening new ones. I have quite a lot of highlighters that I haven’t started using and there a select few that I have.

Hightlighter Collection Review_LBL1

Currently, there are four hightlighters I have in rotation. When you think about how little you need to highlight and how much product a lot of pans hold, I know that these hightlighters will last me a long time. I use highlighter a few times a week and the ones I’m sharing with you below are ones that I really do enjoy.

Becca x Jaclyn Hill Champagne Glow Palette (Holiday 2015)

Hightlighter Collection Review_LBL7

This one is an oldie but a goodie! I think this was the first Champagne Pop face collection palette that was released after Champagne Pop first came onto the scene and really put highlighters and Becca Cosmetics on the map in my opinion. I use Pearl (pale white shade) and Champagne Pop (peachy-pinky centre shade) the most, however, I have used Blushed Copper (warm copper/red shade) over the eyes before.

Hightlighter Collection Review_LBL6

Pearl and Champagne Pop look good on their own on me, but I actually love mixing these two colours together. This highlight is definitely my going-out, in your face highlight combo because it’s very intense for me. Champagne Pop is such a nice highlight on my skin tone and although there have been so many new highlighters that are very similar to it, I still just love using this. It’s very pearl-like on the face. Even though this palette isn’t available for purchase the individual shades are because they are part of the Becca Permanent Line.

CoverFX Custom Enhancer Drops in MoonLight

Hightlighter Collection Review_LBL9

Speaking of in your face highlighter, the Costom Enhancer Drops from CoverFx are soooooo intense! You really need to be careful with how much you apply but with the perfect amount I can get a very silky looking highlight. This little bottle is actually part of my Project Pan for 2018, but I like it so much that I might splurge on a large bottle once this is done.

Hightlighter Collection Review_LBL8

With dry skin, I always want to look super dewy. What I’ve started to do, thanks to suggestions from stashy and mufavorites is mixing a little drop of this in my foundation and moisturizers. It gives me a really nice all over glow and doesn’t look too sparkly.

Vintage Cosmetics Illuminating Face Highlighter in Rose Gold

Hightlighter Collection Review_LBL4

When I first received this product in my December BoxyCharm, I was worried that it would be too sparkly. After using it a few times, I found that it wasn’t as sparkly as I thought and find that the glow on this is very subtle. It has a pretty pink colour that I enjoy wearing over my cheeks as a blush topper.

I like the gold shift in this highlighter so if I’m going for a more warm makeup look I find it ties tge look together. I’m so happy to have discovered this through my subscription box!

Tarte Cosmetics Amazonian Clay in Exposed

Hightlighter Collection Review_LBL5

Another item from my Project Pan, I have a highlighter from Tarte that I both like and dislike. I love the concept of a nude highlight because sometimes I just want my highlight to be barely there but just give me the tiniest glow when light hits my face. This highlight definitely does that which I really love. The only thing is I’m not sure if the product doesn’t stick to my skin very long or if after sometime I stop noticing it, but sometimes after a few hours it feels like it disappears.

It’s one of those highlights that I’ll wear during the day when I don’t want to go full out with my makeup. make my OK highlighter, I don’t hate it but it doesn’t get me as excited as the ones I mentioned above.

Swatches!

Thoughts

Well there you have it! All the highlighters I’m using right niw. One that I missed including but love is my Mary-LouManizer by The Balm.

The colour range of these all fall within the peachy/pinky zone which I like the best on my skin. I think after reviewing these, I might be open to new suggestions. I do have a hightlighter from Wet N’ Wild that I received in my March Topbox that I’m tempted to crack open!

What’s your favourite hightlighter? Have any suggestions for me to try next?

Lots of Love,
Dal

SKIN&CO Roma Truffle Therapy Whipped Cleansing Cream
Full Size: $40.00 (150mL), Sample Size: $8.00 (30mL)

Topbox July 2018 (2)

It’s been a while since I’ve received a facial cleanser and this one sounds really good! This is a highly concentrated cleanser so a little dollop is all you need to cleanse the face which is made for dry & dull skin. This is formulated with pure Truffle Extract from Italy and Almond Oil, it works gently while providing intense hydration. I love whipped or foamy types of cleansers for my face. One of my favourite whipped formulas is the Origins Checks and Balances face wash, but this Skin&CO one sounds like it will be way more hydrating than that one so I hope it works really well on my skin!

Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Skin Protectant, The Original
Full Size: $29.00 (50mL), $2.90 (5mL)

Topbox July 2018 (4)

I absolutely love Elizabeth Arden skincare! I don’t think I’ve ever come across an item I didn’t like. This is one of those all over, do everything type of moisturizers. You can use it to do so much including; shaping brows, soothe dry hands, smooth cuticles etc. I’d probably use this on my elbows, lips, around my eyes and so many other areas of my face and body. I love carrying creams like this to use whenever I need.

Pretty Woman NYC Nail Polish in So Minaj
Full Size: $11.84 (10mL), this is a full-size item

Topbox July 2018 (3)

This is a pretty pink frost shimmer nail polish. I put two coats of this on my toenails when I received my topbox about a week ago and they’ve held up really well. This is a thin formula which I prefer because it tends to stick my nails a bit better. These polishes are, Cruelty-Free, Paraben-Free, Sulfate-Free, Phthalates-Free, Petrochemical-Free, GMO-Free, Triclosan-Free, & Vegan.

The Beauty Crop FABULOUS FLOCKING LASHES MASCARA
Full Size: $25.00 (8ml), Sample Size: $13.48 (4mL)

Topbox July 2018 (5)

I’m not sure if what we received are the Beauty Crop mascaras before they were reformulated or if this is just the tube that they put the sample size mascara into. The one online looks like a new tube style packaging, but, what we received is a volume size that is similar to a lot of my deluxe size mascaras so I am a bit confused. You can see what I’m talking about here. I, unfortunately, can’t find them on CheckFresh.com to see if it is indeed the other version.

Topbox July 2018 (6)

Anyways, the packaging on this is super cute! I love the pink tube and the little flamingos. I this the Beauty Crop has adorable packaging. The wand isn’t exactly the style I wear a lot of but I could possibly use it for my lower lashline. I do like that this is a waterproof mascara and I love the addition of argan oil and jojoba.

BONUS! Dove Exfoliating Body Polish in Crushed Macadamia & Rice Milk

Topbox July 2018 (7)

I’m really excited about this bonus item! I have a jar of the new Dove Exfoliating Body Polish in the kiwi seeds and cool aloe scent and love it so much because it smells so fruity and fresh. I love macadamia, so I’m sure this is going to smell like a delicious dessert. The exfoliating bits in this polish feel like sand, they are really small and feel like you’re at the beach. I really love it! I think I will get two uses out of this sample and I will use it to prep my legs before shaving or apply tanning lotion

My Thoughts

Again, Topbox has another great bag! The items I received are ones that I look forward to using. I’m most excited about the whipped facial cleanser! Total Value of my box; $36.22 (bonus sample not included)

Did you receive Topbox this month? What items did you get?

Lots of love,
Dal
