Winter Time Lip Care

Winter is brutal on my skin and can be painful for my lips as well because they tend to get really dry and cracked. Below are some items that help keep my lips hydrated.

One of the most important things I do to improve my overall skin hydration is drinking a lot of water. In the winter it’s mostly in the form of teas but regardless water is essential to keeping my lips hydrated.

Fresh Sugar Lip Polish

Lip Treatment Favourites_LBL (3)

You may have seen this item in my Project Pan for 2018 if not, you missed that post and can read it here! If I’m applying a lip treatment or balm I like to exfoliate first to remove the dead skin. The texture is gritty but the brown sugar granulas are really small and feel smooth.

Lip Treatment Favourites_LBL (4)

I enjoy this scrub because it has shea butter and jojoba oil to help condition the lips. It is a really comfortable scrub.

Dr Lipp Original Nipple Balm for Lips

Lip Treatment Favourites_LBL (5)

I’ve mentioned this product a few times on the blog and it’s amazing that even after so much time and trying other products I still enjoy this the best. The texture of this is like a thick petroleum jelly and it has no colour. It can feel pretty tacky so I prefer to use this at night. I also love this for my cuticles too.

Lip Treatment Favourites_LBL (6)

Their website has a multitude of uses for this balm. It has the funniest name but it’s a intensely hydrating gel that I can imagine it being really great for breastfeeding moms! I mean, that’s what it was originally for anyways. I think if you suffer from extremely dry lips this is a must.

Nova Scotia Fisherman Xtreme Lip Care

Lip Treatment Favourites_LBL (9)

Another product I’ve mentioned before on the blog numerous times is this lip balm from Nova Scotia Fisherman. I love this because it’s extremely hydrating but feels light on the lips.

Lip Treatment Favourites_LBL (10)

The product looks like it’s about to crumble apart because I use it so much. This lives on my vanity so in the morning I’ll put this on my lips to prep them while I put on my makeup.

Bite Beauty Agave Lip Balm

Lip Treatment Favourites_LBL (7)

How could I possibly have a list of favourite lip treatments without including this guy! This is such a nice light formula that I keep this in my purse and spread it on my lips whenever they start to feel dry throughout the day.

Lip Treatment Favourites_LBL (8)

It can feel slippery on the lips but I like that it almost feels like a barrier against the colder elements. I also have the lip mask and sugar scrub in the Agave line that I enjoy as well.

Lip Treatment Favourites_LBL (2)

I  love other lip products but I find that right now these four are perfect for my lips day to night. What are your favourite lip items for winter?

Tarte Rainforest of the Sea vol. II: Palette Collection Review Series

Ever have a beauty product you didn’t think was going to wow you suddenly become one of your faves? That’s what happened to me after using Tarte’s Rainforest of the Sea Vol. II Palette. I bought this on a whim because it was on sale and when I first looked at the colours I thought they were super basic.

I purchased this palette back in April and shared it in a haul here.  Then in August, I received a second one in my BoxyCharm which I gave to my sister.

Rainforest Of the Sea_LBL (6)

What it is

Eight long-wearing, cool-toned shades include four mattes and four lusters that can be worn wet or dry, & you’ll get the antioxidant benefits of tarte’s Rainforest of the Sea™ complex with none of the icky, bad stuff. (Tartecosmetics.com)

Price

Currently, this is on sale for $33.00 CAD (o.4 oz/ 12 g) on the Tarte Website (it’s $47.00 CAD on Sephora.ca). I find this goes in and out of sale on the Tarte Website. This is $3.92 per gram which is mid-range of my palettes (based on the regular price)

Packaging

I didn’t think I was going to enjoy this circular packaging but it is actually really comfortable to hold. When I apply eyeshadow I like to hold this sideways and it makes it easy to get product and use the mirror.

Rainforest Of the Sea_LBL (3)

This is in packaging similar to the Tarte In Bloom palette which I’ve revieved in my series here.  It’s a sturdy plastic gold package and I think the coral reef print on the top is pretty.  The size of this palette is about 3.5″ in diameter.

Colour

As mentioned in the description above, these are all cool toned shades. I was drawn to the deep blue shadow in this palette but it’s the brown and beige shades that I use most often. I use conch, marina, seaside and siren all the time. For me, these are my quint-essential everyday shades and they just look really flattering on me. My complexion is neutral, but I do tend a bit cooler so that’s why these types of colours work really well for me.

Rainforest Of the Sea_LBL (7)

When I found that I was reaching for this palette more and more over my other palettes I knew that this was spot on for me. The colours are so easy for me to create looks with. Below, I’ve created a really dark smokey look, but for the most part, I keep to a really light look for every day.

The colours are not bold but they are highly pigmented and blend well together. Sunset is a beautiful gold that I will put all over the lid when I feel like a little sparkle and I use breezy when I feel like making any look more smokey.

Rainforest Of the Sea_LBL (8)

One draw back is that marina and seaside are very similar colours. When swatched, marina looks caramel and seaside looks like a light brown but it’s a minuscule difference that they look the same on the eye.

Application & Wear

When I look at the palette many of the pans look crumbly and you would think the shadow was more chunky but it’s not at all. They feel so smooth and creamy when applied. Siren can be a bit patchy, but I only use a little bit of this shadow that I find I can blend it out well.

Something that I absolutely enjoy about the application with this palette is that I experience such little fallout. In the look below I experienced none! Yep! I put my foundation on first and then was able to build the dark navy blue into my crease and lid without little bits of it falling on my face.

This is my everyday shadow palette so I have tested it out over an 8 hour work day and it’s held up really well. The shadows don’t budge or move or fade and I usually don’t need a primer.

In the look above, I applied conch all over the lid and blended marina into the outter and inner lid. On the outter half of my lid I blended seaside into a trangular shape and put a little of it in my inner lid. I then used breezy on the outter edge of my lid keeping with the triangular shape and took the tiniest amount onto my inner lid, whatever was let over on the brush I dragged in my lower lash line. Using a blending brush with a little bit of marina I blended out the outter edges of breezy which dragged a little bit of the colour over my crease. I put sunset over the center of my lid using some setting spray for intensity. To end it all off I put pearl under my brow and inner corner of my eyelid. I finished it off with mascara.

Rainforest Of the Sea_LBL (5)

The Breakdown

Pros

  • great pigmentation
  • no fallout
  • long lasting

Cons

  • not everyone will love cool colours
  • siren can be patchy
  • marina and seaside are similar

My Thoughts

I really enjoy this palette. If you are looking for a cool toned everyday palette you might really enjoy this one!

Let me know your thoughts on this palette or any other eyeshadows you’ve tried from Tarte.

Shopping Haul: Tarte Cosmetics 2017 Boxing Day Sale

I dread the sales that start after Christmas. Not that sales are bad, but they are so tempting and the last thing I need after Christmas is to do more shopping! I tried so hard not to buy anything but I did end up online shopping for Boxing Day at a few stores. I mostly bought clothing but of course, ended up making a beauty purchase too!

Tarte Cosmetics was offering 25% off everything site-wide (some products excepted, AKA the shape tape) this included their sale items which is where I got my items below.

Tarte Boxing Day Haul_LBL (2)

All prices are in Canadian Dollars

All of the items are from Tarte’s Holiday collection. Unfortunately, the blush palette and glitter liner trio are not available on the Tarte website as of this post.

Artful Accessories Brush Set
Original Price: $57.00, Boxing Day Sale Price: $21.84
Tarte Boxing Day Haul_LBL (3)

These are crazy soft brushes! My sister has a set of brushes from Tarte that she absolutely loves so when I saw that these were on sale I knew I didn’t want to pass up on them. They are vegan, cruelty-free brushes.

They feel comfortable in my hands and I like the density of each brush.

Tarte Boxing Day Haul_LBL (4)

The set includes a powder, foundation, blush, crease and shader brush. It also came with a plastic brush holder which I won’t use because I keep my brushes in a brush roller.

I’ve used the blush brush so far and I like it. I wouldn’t normally use a brush this small but it works perfectly for blush.

Blush Bazaar Palette
Original Price: $57.00,  Boxing Day Sale Price: $19.58
Tarte Boxing Day Haul_LBL (5)

I wanted this palette the moment I saw it release. This has 8 blushes and 2 highlighters. The pan size is equivalent to the deluxe size which is perfect for me.

Tarte Boxing Day Haul_LBL (6)

I don’t own too many blushes so this palette is a great way for me to grow that collection without purchasing them individually.

Metallic Treats Glitter Liner Set
Original Price: $38.00,  Boxing Day Sale Price: $16.57
Tarte Boxing Day Haul_LBL (9)

I had wanted glitters this year for the holidays. It’s too late to wear at Christmas but I just wanted this set so badly!!  These also look to be deluxe sizes which is great because I would probably use them for special occasions anyway.

One end of this has a liquid metallic liner and the other end is a glitter liner.  The colours include gold, rose gold and silver.

Tarte Boxing Day Haul_LBL (10)
I have a few weddings/showers/events coming up this year so I am looking forward to using these metallic liners then!

Tarte Boxing Day Haul_LBL (11)

Side Note
I realize that during the Boxing Day Sale, all of these items were discounted more than they are right now (for example, the Artful Accessories Brush set is on sale for $41.00, on Boxing Day it was $29.00) I guess my advice to anyone shopping on Tarte is to be aware of their price fluctuation. I would maybe try shopping during a friends and family sale and definitely boxing day when they are offering better discounts.

Also, Tarte now charges $1.00 for samples. I wasn’t paying attention and actually ended up adding this tiny packet for their maracuja eye treatment to my cart. (funny enough the sample was also 25% off, so I technically got this for $0.75 )

Tarte Boxing Day Haul_LBL (12)

I think I can get two uses from this but it’s very lame that Tarte is charging for samples that I would usually get for free at a beauty store. It doesn’t make sense especially if I’m buying directly from their site. Lesson learned, don’t add any samples from Tarte.

Anyways, that’s what I got! Let me know if you did any Boxing Day shopping and what you got!

Lots of Love,
Dal

Project Pan, 18 for 2018!

HAPPY 2018!!

I wish everyone a fantastic new year! I’m so excited for all that 2018 has to bring.

This is the first time I’m attempting a project pan challenge on the blog! I’ve been watching/reading so many project pan roundups at the end of 2017 that I was really interested in trying this for myself.

I’ve picked 18 items that I want to use up before the end of 2018. Some items I know will be difficult (blushes and highlighters) while others should be pretty easy.

Project Pan_2017_LBL1

A lot of the items get neglected in my collection while others are close to being empty and I just wanted to give myself an extra push to use them up before they go bad.

Here’s what I’d like to use up!

Face Items

Project Pan_2017_LBL3

Shiseido Synchro Skin Lasting Liquid Foundation. I love this foundation so it should be easy to use this up. See my review of it here.
This is 1/2 full.

CoverFX Custom Enhancer Drops in Moonlight (deluxe sample). I don’t use this too often because it’s so intense but I’m hoping to use up the sample.
This is full.

Tarte Cosmetics Amazonian Clay in Exposed (deluxe sample). This is a pretty nude highlight and I’ve used it a few times already but I wonder if I’d be able to put a dent in it.
This is full.

Becca Under Eye Brightening Corrector. I don’t use this as much as I would like to and because it’s in a pot form I want to use it before it dries out.
This is 3/4 full.

Project Pan_2017_LBL4

Physician’s Formula Super BB #InstaReady Filter Bronzer. I got this at Gen Beauty 2 years ago. I like the way this looks on but we will see how much I can get through it.
This is full.

MAC Powder Blush in Fleur Power. I love the grapefruit pink colour of this blush. This is a blush I’ve had for a few years now and I wanted to try using it up.
This is full.

Bite Beauty Multi-Stick in Almond (deluxe size). I enjoy using this for my cheeks and lips. I’m going to see how long this little stick will last.
This is full.

Yves Rocher Youthful Glow Powder in 100 Teint tres Clair. I hardly used powders because my face is dry. I do like to use them a bit to set under my eyes. This has been kicking around my collection for way too long so this year I’m going to use as much as I can and then toss it out.
This is full.

Eye Items

Project Pan_2017_LBL5

Smashbox Cover Shot Eyeshadow in Golden Hour. Of the three cover shot palettes I own, I use this one the least. I wanted to give it a real shot this year and see if I can find ways to use it. See my review of the palette here.
This is full.

Marc Jacobs Black Liner (deluxe size). I really want to use up this liner. I like it but it’s not my favourite black liner.
This is 1/2 full.

Project Pan_2017_LBL6

NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in 611 Yogurt. I like this pencil for every day so we will see how long it will last. See my review of them here.
This is 3/4 full.

Lip Items

Project Pan_2017_LBL7

I think lip items are the toughest for me to get through because I rarely wear them. I’m hopeing through this challenge I’ll start wearing them more often and finally use them up.

Teeez Cosmetics Material Girl Lipstick in Hyped Taupe. This is one of my favourite coloured lipsticks but I don’t wear it too often. I don’t want this to get old before I’ve had a chance to use it.
This is full.

Colourpop Lippie Pencil in Aquarius. This lip pencil is starting to fall apart on me. The lip liner itself falls out of the pencil all the time so I just wanted to use it up.
This is 3/4 full.

Too Faced Melted Liquified Long Wear Lipstick in Melted Candy (deluxe size). I love this candy red colour and wear this quite a bit.
This is 1/2 full.

Too Cool for School Dinoplatz Lip Balm in Spilled Wine. I got this for my birthday two years ago and I enjoy how comfy this is on the lips and the deep red tint it leaves my lips. This should be really easy for me to use up.
This is 3/4 full.

Project Pan_2017_LBL8

Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy Lipstick in 220 Powerful (deluxe size). I love Estee Lauder lipsticks. This pink will be my spring lipstick I just know it.
This is 1/2 full.

Bite Beauty Matte Creme Lip Crayon in Glace. I received this in a voxbox from Influenster which you can read on here. I love the way this looks but I haven’t been wearing it much at all so I wanted to challenge myself to for 2018.
This is full.

Fresh Sugar Lip Polish (deluxe size). Since I’ll be wearing a lot of lip products this year (hopefully) I’ll want to treat my lips. I use this all the time anyways but I have a few lip scrubs that I should use up. I’m thinking this will be one of the earlier items to finish up in 2018. It’s an amazing scrub.
This is 3/4 full.

I’ll try doing an update every season to track my progress. I’m so excited to get this going!

Are you planning a project pan this year?

Lots of Love,
Dal

Bye Bye Empties, December 2017

I’m really happy with the items I’ve been able to empty for December. I keep everything in a bin and I was pleasantly surprised that I had filled it up when I went to create this post. Below are the items I was able to use up!

Makeup

Empties_December_LBL2

Firstly, I used up Sephora’s Retractable Brow Pencil in 03 rich chestnut. I liked the colour of this pencil but I think the brush on the other end is useless. There wasn’t a lot of product in this so it emptied quicker than any other eyebrow pencil I’ve owned. I will not be repurchasing.

I’ve had Yves Rocher’s Velvety Loose Powder in 02 Transparency Beige for the longest time but I’ve finally used it up. I used it to set my face whenever I was wearing full makeup. It came with a sifter which I removed as I got low on the product. I won’t be repurchasing this since I have a lot of pressed and loose powders remaining in my collection.

I’ve decided that it was the time I threw out my Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge. Recently, I have been using brushes to apply foundation and whenever I need a sponge I’ve been reaching for my Beauty Blender instead. I will not be repurchasing this.

Skincare

Empties_December_LBL3

Vichy Laboratories is one of my favourite skincare brands at the drugstore. The Purete Thermal 3 in 1 Cleansing Micellar Solution is fantastic at removing makeup. I have way too many micellar waters to go through at the moment but I’m definitely repurchasing this.

I received this Bioderma Sebium AKN moisturizer in my August 2016 Topbox. I tried to remove the sticker that Bioderma had placed on Canadian store distribution, I was curious what it said underneath, haha! That’s why it has the black residue. This was made for acne prone skin which made it useless for me and it’s probably best I get rid of it. I won’t be purchasing this.

I got this little La Mer the moisture soft cream sample in my September Sephora Haul. Although this technically should be included with my samples below, it’s such an expensive sample and I was able to get 10 uses out of it so I figured I would just put my thoughts here. This brand is ridiculously expensive and I  would not buy this in a full-size cream BUT the littlest bit of this made my skin feel really moisturized and soft.

Next up is this Bella Aura Skincare Antioxidant Booster. I included this in my October Favourites from the Boxes post. I would apply this in-between my serum and moisturizer in my morning routine and I think it worked really well for my skin. I will be purchasing this!

Masks

Empties_December_LBL4

The Face Shop’s White Tea face mask felt really light and comfy on the face. This is supposed to illuminate the skin and it did leave me feeling really hydrated so I would repurchase this mask.

I also enjoyed this Life Brand brightening facial sheet mask. I feel like it did make my face feel brighter so I really enjoyed it. I also like the shape of these masks because the cutouts line up with my face well and they don’t feel like they would slip off. These masks are affordable and effective so I would definitely repurchase them.

Bodycare

Empties_December_LBL5

I enjoy a bath every once in a while and when I take one I must have bubbles. I really enjoyed Dr Teal’s Restore and Replenish bubble bath. It has pure pink Himalayan salt and essential oils so it was great for my muscles and moisturized my skin. It creates such a great lather too. I have already repurchased a new one.

One item I’m really glad to use up is Origins Calm Your Senses Body Souffle in Lavender and Vanilla. Although I loved how hydrated this left my skin feeling I really hated the smell. I love lavender, but the mix of vanilla wasn’t right for me. I won’t be repurchasing this.

Samples

Empties_December_LBL6

I did so much online beauty shopping the past few months and had collected a whole bunch of samples to use up!

I got a one use sample of the Algenist Genius Ultimate Anti-Aging Cream in a Sephora order. This had a mousse texture but it absorbed into my skin quickly and left it feeling really hydrated. I would likely purchase a full size.

Another sample I tried was Fresh’s Seaberry Skin Nutrition Cleansing Oil. I love Fresh items but I probably would not purchase a full size of this because I’m not the biggest fan of cleansing oils. I much prefer Fresh’s Soy Cleanser over this.

I also tried Philosophy’s take a deep breath oil-free oxygenating gel cream and eye cream. I really enjoyed the formula for these two items because they were light-weight and absorbed easily into the skin. I would purchase this in a full size.

An item that I am definitely purchasing a full size of is Olay’s daily facials 4 in 1 water activated cleansers. I LOVED, LOVED this! You wet the cloth and use it remove makeup and cleanse the skin. You can then re-dampen the same cloth to rinse your face. I love how well this removed my makeup and it left my skin feeling great! I think these would be fantastic to travel with and unlike my makeup wipes, I won’t have to worry about it drying out.

Lastly, I used another KNC Beauty Lip Mask from my BoxyCharm. I included my thoughts on this product in my November Empties post.

What are some items you used up in December? Any item you’ll be repurchasing?

Lots of Love,
Dal

Milani Everyday Eyes Powder Eyeshadow Collection: Palette Collection Review Series

I am easily drawn to new palettes all the time. Every year I buy about 3-4 new ones from both the beauty stores and drugstores. When I picked this one up it was Autmn of last year and I was definately feeling the orange and warm vibes. I use this palette quite often and wanted to share my thoughts.

Milani_EarthyElementsPalette_Review_LBL (3)

What It Is
Six richly pigmented shades and a step-by-step guide for professional-looking results (milanicosmetics.com)

Price
$12.99 CAD (0.21 oz/6 g). This breaks down to $2.17/gram which I think is reasonable for the drugstore.

Packaging
I really enjoy the packaging of this palette because it’s sturdy and compact. The palette itself is maybe 3×4.

Milani_EarthyElementsPalette_Review_LBL (6)Although I do like palettes with mirrors I like that this one is clear so that you can see the colours within. If you owned multiple colours of this palette you’d be able to easily distinguish them. I like that the back of this has a useful guide as well.

This came with a double-sided brush. One side is a blender type brush and the other side is a shader brush.

Milani_EarthyElementsPalette_Review_LBL (5)It’s not the worst brush that I’ve received in a palette and I’ve used it a few times with the palette and I think it works well.

Colour
There are eight different palettes in this range so you can find one that suits your personal style. I gravitated towards this palette called Earthy Elements for the beautiful tones and the gorgeous orange shade.

Milani_EarthyElementsPalette_Review_LBL (4)I’ve been able to come up with light everyday looks as well as sultry evening looks with this palette. I experience a bit of fallout so whenever I wear this palette I do my foundation afterwards. One shade this palette is missing for me is a light matte cream shade, something I could put all over my lid, but luckily I keep a few of those in single shadows.

Milani_EarthyElementsPalette_Review_LBL (7)

Application & Wear
The shadows are powdery but that makes them really easy to blend. The shades are fairly pigmented. I have no problems with building up the intensity of an eye look. The Speciality (5.) and Base (1.) do need a bit more work for them to appear on my lid but they can be built up.

For the look below I put 1.Base all over the lid and 3.Lid in lightly in the crease and a bit deeper in the outer V. I also put it on my lower lid. To deepen the crease I put a little bit of 4.Crease and finished off the look with 6.Liner on my outer lash line. Lastly, I applied some Benefit They’re Real Tinted Lash Primer mascara.

Whenever I’ve worn this I have used an eyeshadow primer or have put concealer as a base. I think it helps the colours pop. One thing I find with these eyeshadows is that even with a primer they are not long lasting. After about 5-6 hours of wear, it starts to break down and the colour fades away.

The Breakdown

Pros

  • Affordable price
  • Compact
  • Nice warm colours

Cons

  • Not as long lasting as I would like
  • Needs a light cream shades

Milani_EarthyElementsPalette_Review_LBL (2)

My Thoughts
For the price, this palette is pretty good. I love the looks I can create and find that it has good pigmentation. If you’re not willing to pay a high price tag for something at a beauty or department store than this is a great option from the drugstore.

Have you tried any products or palettes from Milani? What’s your favourite drugstore brand make up?

Lots of Love,
Dal

First Impressions, Urban Minerals Loose Mineral Foundation

Usually, I gravitate towards liquid foundation as my preferred foundation type. However, I always want to try something new so when I was offered the opportunity to try out Urban Minerals Loose Mineral Foundation* I thought why not!

I’ve only tried a powder foundation once before but didn’t love it for my dry skin. I’ve never tried anything that was mineral and after finding that this is vegan, whole food based, cruelty-free makeup and I thought, maybe a more natural product could be good for my skin. Plus, none of my other foundations can claim to be this natural!  I also read that it will leave you with smooth and dewy, medium to high coverage skin and has a 12-hour wear! Yes and yes!

Urban Minerals_LBL (1)

What it is
Urban Minerals is a collection of luxe Mineral Cosmetics made for multicultural women of all divine and diverse backgrounds. (urbanminerals.ca)

I love the empowering nature of this brand and how it has very positive messaging throughout. I also love supporting Canadian companies and Urban Minerals is based out of Toronto! Not only that but they locally source each whole food ingredient. Below is more information from their website;

Drawing on the power of 8 herbs that come from Canada, our skin care minded foundations and more are hand made and infused with Reiki. This ties together a local Canadian economy, a reductionist approach to our carbon footprint, and an intuitive understanding of the body & environment, with style. (urbanminerals.ca)

Urban Minerals_LBL (5)The shade range is pretty good too (33 shades). I picked out the shade unfurled flowers which is described as fair, olive and yellow undertoned. That’s me!! I was a bit hesitant what my shade was at first because I felt like I might have been able to fit into a few of them but I’m really happy with how well this matches my skin tone. If you are shopping online you can reach out to Urban Minerals and they will help shade match you as well.

Urban Minerals_LBL (2)

Price
This costs $45.00 CAD (30 g). I think it’s on par with a lot of my liquid foundations.

Application & Wear
I’ll start off by saying that this feels silky and finely milled. The suggested application is to use a kabuki brush and buff this in a circular motion over the skin. I used my Sephora 56 brush which is a small, dense kabuki style brush. I loved the way this foundation applied with the brush because it buffed out so easily and because the brush is dense I was able to build up my coverage. I was even able to use a little bit more of the foundation under my eyes and it doubled as a concealer!

Urban Minerals_LBL (6)

You can also mix the loose mineral foundation with your beauty oil or serum or can apply it with a wet beauty sponge. I haven’t tried it with a serum but I found it applied evenly using a damp beauty blender. I think both methods work for me but the brush technique was quicker.

My skin looked even without looking like I had a lot of foundation on and I appreciate a medium coverage look. Within the hour it melted into my skin and looked even better! I have to say that for someone with dry skin this did not make me feel or look dry at all. I would always start off with moisturizer and if I felt I was feeling particularly dry that day I would spray some setting spray and that worked out great.

Urban Minerals_LBL (7)

I wore this for about 10 – 13 hours on a given day and it held up nicely. After a long workday that’s something that I can feel good about. It’s so lightweight I forget I’m even wearing anything.

My Thoughts
It’s such a pleasant surprise to try something that’s so different from what I usually wear for foundation and have it work so well for me. I did have some hesitation at first because I do have dry skin but it didn’t leave me feeling dry. I think it’s worth giving this a try and seeing how it might work for you. I also like knowing that what I put on my face is actually made with good ingredients that are full of vitamins and antioxidants!

You can purchase Urban Minerals on their website at UrbanMinerals.ca

Have you tried a mineral foundation before?

Unboxing BoxyCharm, December 2017

Price: $21.00 USD (+$5.00 shipping to Canada)
Number of items: 4-5 full-size items

Boxycharm is a monthly subscription box of full-size makeup, skincare and beauty tools. The theme for this month is “Glitz & Glam”. This is obviously a holiday-centric theme but I like that you can pretty much create a whole look with the items I received.

BoxyCharm Dec 2017_LBL (2)

As a quick update, I subscribed to BoxyCharm earlier this year and originally only thought I’d stick to a three-month subscription. It’s been some time and I’m really loving the box! It’s approx $33.00 when converted to CAD (with shipping) but I love the value of the box and I’ve been able to share or gift a lot of the items. I’m likely to stick with the subscription for a while.

Prices are in American Dollars, converted to Canadian at the end

RealHer Blush Kit
Retail Price: $32.00 USD

BoxyCharm Dec 2017_LBL (9)
This is the third time I’ve received RealHer products in my box but I do like the brand so far so I’m happy to get this blush trio.
BoxyCharm Dec 2017_LBL (1)I originally wasn’t sure if I was going to save this for myself or give it to someone else but after finding that the colours are muted I think I will keep it for myself. I like blushes that are light and buildable.

Beaute Basics Bronze Essentials
Retail Price: $39.95 USD
BoxyCharm Dec 2017_LBL (6)
I was excited about this bronzer until I opened it up and noticed the large strips of glitter. The card from BoxyCharm reads that you can use the pans individually or together.
BoxyCharm Dec 2017_LBL (7)
I like to use a big fluffy brush for bronzing so I’m not sure how well I’ll be able to only use it individually. I’ll give this a try to decide if I might be able to use it but I honestly see this as being something I’d use on my eyes instead.

Makeup Geek Showstopper Creme Stain
Retail Price: $12.00 USD
BoxyCharm Dec 2017_LBL (5)

I love receiving Makeup Geek in my BoxyCharm because I wouldn’t buy it on my own. This is a pretty nude that I would wear myself but I know my sister might like it better so I’m going to pass this along to her.  I’m not sure what the shade name is because it’s nowhere on the packaging.

Tarte Tarteist Lash Paint Mascara
Retail Price: $23.00 USD
BoxyCharm Dec 2017_LBL (8)
I love this mascara and I already have one that’s almost empty so I’m beyond excited to have a new one. This has a rubber brush tip and I like it for fanning out my lashes.

Vintage Cosmetics Illuminating Face Highlighter in Rose Gold
Retail Price: $32.00 USD
BoxyCharm Dec 2017_LBL (4)

I’m in love with the packaging on this product. It’s a heavy duty white plastic with gold detail. It’s so elegant. The highlighter itself is pretty and would work with my skin tone I just think it’s very glittery. I might not use this as a highlight but I think it would work for me as a blush topper or over the lids.

My Thoughts
This box is OK from BoxyCharm. Usually, I’m wowed by everything and this time around I’m feeling so-so. I was hoping that with it being the holidays I’d get something more sparkly or a lip colour that was more festive. I am very happy with the mascara, highlighter and blush set so there are some redeeming elements in this box. Total Retail value: $138.95 USD ($178.77 CAD!)

Did you get BoxyCharm this month? What was in your box?

Dal

Unboxing and First Impressions, Monthly Watch Club

It’s always fun to try something a little different than the usual unboxing here on the blog. Today I’m sharing an unboxing for box that I’m really intrigued by. That’s the Monthly Watch Club* box.
Monthly Watch Club (1)

Monthly Watch Club is a subscription service where every month you receive one custom made watch. They work with watch designers around the world to bring subscribers affordable watches. You can choose whether you want a male or female subscription.

This costs $39.99 CAD plus $7.00 shipping within Canada.

I’ve never heard of a watch subscription service so I was curious about the quality and style of the watch. My watch was received in a Canada Post bag wrapped tightly in bubble wrap. The black box that it came in is sturdy with the Monthly Watch Club name and logo on the top. I really appreciate this packaging because it makes the watch an easy gift or a nice way to store the watch when not in use.

Monthly Watch Club (6)

The watch I received has a genuine leather brown strap. It has a beautiful gold face with Roman numeral dials. On the front and back of the watch is the Monthly Watch Club logo which I think is a nice touch.

Monthly Watch Club (4)
I like that it’s a smaller and sleeker watch with a thin strap because that’s what I would go for. I usually wear my smartwatch every day but I would switch it up for a watch like this for when I’m dressing up.
Monthly Watch Club (3)After seeing the watch in person I can imagine a subscription like this would be great for someone who enjoys watches and accessories because it’s a good quality and the style is nice (you can also find styles from previous months on the website).

There are different subscription levels (month to month, 3 month prepay, 6 month prepay or 12 month prepay). So if you only want to add a few or many watches to your collection you could easily do that.

Monthly Watch Club

I thought of this as a good gift option for some of the men and women in my life because they can be difficult to shop for. Something like this is easy because they would get a new style every month to enjoy and I could pick a subscription option that fit my budget.

You can find more information and sign up for monthly watch club here.

Other Things to Note

  • based out of Calgary, Alberta (go Canada!)
  • each watch comes with a 100 day warranty
  • ship internationally
  • 10% of all profits go toward Kiva, which help people build businesses around the world. I love a company that gives back

Monthly Watch Club (7)

My Thoughts

I personally don’t see the need for so many watches for myself, but I can think of a few people who would love this. I definitely think this is a great gift option for some of the people in my life who I know would enjoy receiving a new watch in the mail every month. The watch is better quality than I thought for the price so I would be super happy gifting a subscription like this.

Would you be excited to receive a new watch every month? What would be your favourite type of subscription box?

Lots of Love,
Dal
