Happy 2021!
It’s kind of fitting to start the new year with a declutter. I know how much I’m excited to be throwing out 2020 and starting fresh in 2021! LOL! While I know things are still really tough and it’ll be sometime before we are fully rid of COVID-19 I am looking at 2021 as a time to reset. I feel like I need to adjust to everything going on around me and set goals for myself. For example, I had to cancel my gym membership last year because I wasn’t able to go there physically so this year I’m going to start watching more workout YouTube videos and finding alternative ways to stay active. I also plan on eating more healthy (I definitely took advantage of sitting at home and snacking). I also want to continue to improve my skills of cupcake decorating, if you saw my Instagram feed, I’ve really gotten into that!
I’d love to know what goals you have for the coming year!
Anyways first we have to say bye, bye to the empties items I was able to use up in November & December!
Skincare
The Body Shop Chamomile Sumptuous Cleansing Butter, reviewed here. This butter is great for melting down makeup and making it easy to remove. I liken it to Clinque’s Take the Day off balm but this is much less expensive (especially if you can get it on sale). I haven’t been wearing so much makeup lately so I will hold off on repurchasing this for now.
Indeed Laboratories Hydraluron Moisture Jelly, reviewed here. Again, this was a nice and simple daily hydrating gel. I really liked that this had hyaluronic acid. I used a little pump each morning and evening and it left my skin feeling good. I loved the packaging because it is an air-less pump so no product went to waste. My only con remains that it does take a while to absorb into the skin but once it does you are left with really hydrated skin. As I mentioned I’m not in need of a new moisturizer now, but I would definitely repurchase this in the future.
The Ordinary Vitamin C Suspension 23% + HA Sphere 2%. I used this quite a bit and it’s almost empty, however, I decided that I would just declutter it. Every time I used this cream it made my skin feel weird. I can’t describe it, it’s almost like it has little granules in it so it would scratch against my skin. The label does warn that you might experience a tingling sensation and if it’s too strong to mix with other creams or serums if you prefer but I just don’t feel too good about this when I put it on. I have pretty resilient skin and I don’t usually feel irritation so I’m not sure if my skin is just not playing well with one ingredient or the whole formulation of this. Unfortunately, I will not be repurchasing this.
Clarins Re-Boost hydrating Cream. I received this sample in the mail and immediately started using it. It made my skin feeling nourished and plump. It also has a light fragrance which I enjoyed. I used it every morning and the sample lasted me about a week which was pretty good. I do have other standard moisturizers that I need to use up but I do like this enough that I would repurchase the next time I need to replenish what I have.
Makeup
Benefit Big Easy BB Cream, reviewed here. I wasn’t using this BB Cream too much because I have others that I prefer in my collection, however, with quarantine I figured I could use this up while I was at home. So I did! I was not the biggest fan of this formula so I’m not going to repurchase this.
Tarte Shape Tape, reviewed here. When I first reviewed the shape tape, I had mixed feelings about it. I still don’t think it was as great as it was hyped up to be. I used this quite a bit just to use it up. Honestly, I find I get just as good, if not better results from drug store concealers. Now, I do have this concealer in a second shade which I’m trying to use up as well but I don’t think I’ll repurchase the Shape Tape after that.
Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Cruella. This is actually from one of the Sephora Birthday Sets from a few years back! It’s old but it’s held up until now. I only ever use this lip pencil close to holiday time because it’s such a beautiful red. When I reached for it this year I found that it has started to smell, so I’m going to have to get rid of it. It’s pretty unfortunate because it is so pretty and I love products like this because they are easy to wear. I don’t think I’ll repurchase this only because I won’t get use out of it now.
Bite Beauty Matte Crayon in Glace, review here. Now this isn’t the exact lip crayon from my original review over 4 years ago but I liked this colour so much I was so excited to receive it in another Sephora Birthday Set. I love this colour! It might actually be one of the only lip crayons I will actually reach for. The only thing is that I haven’t worn this in over a year so the formula is old now and I can’t hold onto it. I will probably repurchase this when things are back to normal and I don’t have to wear a mask all the time.
Bourjois Mascara Twist Up the Volume. I thought the concept of this mascara was pretty interesting. You keep it straight for length and twist it for volume. I didn’t really notice a difference whether the brush was straight or twisted. The formula wasn’t my favourite either, it was very dry so it flaked a lot. I have other mascaras I prefer so I won’t be repurchasing this one.

Well, these were all the empties I had for November and December. I’m pretty happy with how much I was able to use up!
Looking back at 2020 as a whole, I feel like I was able to use up a lot of my stuff which is actually pretty great all things considered. A lot of stuff was decluttered because it was old, but generally I was actually able to use up a lot. I haven’t done much shopping for makeup over the last two years so it feels good to start to see what I have get used up. I feel like I had been collecting a lot of it over time.
How was 2020 empties for you? Were you able to use up a lot?
Lots of Love,
Dal
I recently finished up the chamomile cleansing balm too, it was nice and I would use it again 🙂 The Clarins moisturiser sounds really nice! I haven’t heard of or seen that Benefit BB Cream before, is it a newer release by them?

The benefit bb Cream is actually pretty old, I think they updated they packaging for it or maybe even discontinued it. I haven’t seen it in a long time.

I have that Nars lip crayon too! Lol I actually pulled it out over Christmas too and was quite impressed it didn’t dry out and still worked quite well! I had a few empties myself, but I’m too much of a beauty junkie and have probably 40+ half used items of skincare alone.
Best,

Nothing like a good clear out and declutter to start the year!

That’s upsetting about the Shape Tape! So many people rave about it, but I’d rather save money and buy a cheaper drugstore concealer if they’re just as good! Thanks for the reviews babes💗

Yeah it is too bad but luckily there are a lot of great concealers out there. I’ve really been enjoying the drug store concealers. Thanks for reading!
