Tarte Cosmetics Haul & First Impressions

I did some Boxing Day Shopping on the Tarte Cosmetics website because they were offering 30% off everything on their site. For those who may not know, in Canada, December 26th is our big shopping day where almost all stores host sales. I’m sure this sale was probably the same in all countries but they advertised it as Boxing Day for us. tarte-cosmetics_haul-9When I saw that they had the Shape Tape Concealer back in stock in my shade I figured it was the best time to try it! Below I’ll share what I received and first impressions on some items.

Let’s start with the concealer that pretty much took over the later half of 2016, the much-hyped Shape Tape.

tarte-cosmetics_haul-8I had been waiting anxiously for their lighter shades to come back into stock on the website for the last 3 months because unfortunately for me, I can’t pick this up in store. One down-side to purchasing this online was obviously trying to shade-match so I made a guess at my shade. I got light-neutral which ended up being a match for me (luckily). tarte-cosmetics_haul-7This concealer is alright. I don’t hate it, but I don’t exactly think it’s as fantastic as many people have been saying it is. I feel like this just sits on top of my makeup and actually accentuates the fine lines under my eyes. I’m sure if I’m wearing a full-face of makeup it would be nice, but I tend to be more light-handed with makeup for everyday so it didn’t really work with that.

The formula is creamy which is nice. I’ve seen claims that this completely covers any dark circles but I beg to differ. I didn’t notice any more coverage than my other concelears. Plus, I really think the large applicator deposits way too much product on to my face and doesn’t make applying the concealer any easier or better. This may all be because I have dry skin but it didn’t wow me like I wanted it to. I’ll do a full review once I’ve used this about halfway and see if maybe I grow to love it.

Next, I got the The Sheer Passion Maracuja Hydrating Cheek Tint.

tarte-cosmetics_haul-5Lately I’ve been loving liquid blush because I can apply it it quickly with my fingers and in in the winter months I’ve been avoiding adding extra powder to my face as to not look more dry. Plus this was on sale and I still got 30% on top of that so win-win. I like that this had some of their maracuja oil in it because I actually really love it as a face oil for hydrating.

tarte-cosmetics_haul-2First time I used this I went a bit over board because I really thought this would be sheer, however, it is pretty pigmented. The next time I used this I applied a light amount to my face and then blended it out to give just a wash of colour.

I also picked up the Tartiest Pro to Go palette. I love these two highlight colours.

tarte-cosmetics_haul-4One is this pretty pearl colour and the other has a hint of gold. Both are not crazy intense which look really nice on the tops of my cheeks. The contour colour is a bit warm for me but I can definitely use it as a bronzer colour or even as eye-shadow so I’m not too upset that it wasn’t cool.

tarte-cosmetics_haul-3 I like that this is in a nice small case (it’s only a tiny bit bigger than the size of a credit card), so it fits in my makeup case easily. I also love the rubber-like texture of this case and the gold lettering, it’s pretty chic.

Lastly, I purchased the Make a Splash Hydrating Skin Savers mini set.

tarte-cosmetics_haul-6 I actually own these in the large size but I couldn’t help picking up the mini set for travelling and because I thought it was really cute. This set is actually really great for anyone with dry skin because it is all meant to hydrate. I use these mostly for  washing my face in the morning because it’s very gentle and preps my skin for whatever make up I may want to put on. I love the hydrating cream and the facial mist (I love facial mists period).

Have you tried the Shape Tape? What about the Pro Glow to Go? How about the Blush or Make a Splash Face Set? Let me know what you think!

Dal

Beauty: Colourpop Haul II

It wasn’t long ago that I posted my fist ever haul from Colourpop (you can see it here). I was super impressed with my items that I went back onto their website and picked up a few more things. They have every single colour you can think of when it comes to lips and eyes.

The formula is really nice and it’s about $7 to $8 CAD. Even with shipping they’re cheaper than many drugstore options.

I also realize that Colourpop uses the Canadian spelling for colour – they say it’s to be classy – I think they secretly want to be Canadian…

Now on to what I got!!!!

I really liked the Ultra Matte Lip formula from my last haul so I picked up Are & Be below which is a rich plum shade.Colourpop2I wanted to try their new Ultra Satin Lip which has more of a gloss and I’ve heard is more comfortable to wear. I picked up Panda (the name is too cute), again a nice deep plum shade. It’s not transfer proof like the Ultra Matte, so you really need to be careful not to smudge this around.

I also picked up three Lippie Stixs which I feel have more of a lipstick formula.Colourpop1First up, Wet, which has a pearl finish in a taupe gun metal colour. It looks edgy on the lips which I’m in love with! Next, I purchased She Bad which is a really light nude in the Matte X formula. Lastly, my personal fave is Dalia, named after yours truly :P. This is a very hot deep black cherry colour that I love!

Since I’ve had a chance to try out the different formulas I want to point out how amazing these feel and how long lasting they are on the lips. I can go a lot longer between touch-ups with these.

In my last haul I said that I wanted to try their eye shadows. I’ve heard mixed reviews about these so I only picked up two shades to try. I got glow which is a matte ivory shade. I like using it all over my eyelid as a base as it really brightens up my eyes. I also picked up quiche which is oh-so-hot! I really love this metallic sparkly shade! It’s described on their website as a soft olive with violet and pink shimmers. I like adding this to my crease or just on the outside third of my lid. Colourpop3These shadows have the most interesting texture, its very sponge-like. I think they are best applied directly onto the eyelid with your finger and then using a brush to buff them out. The pigmentation and ease of application is quite impressive. They blend nicely with my other shadows too. The range of colours on the website is amazing as well! I will probably, no definitely, pick up some more again.

Anything you’ve been loving from Colourpop lately?

Lots of Luv,

Beauty: Sephora Spring Haul

Fotor_146300740650919_resizedSomething came over me two weeks ago and I made a purchase from Sephora. I was in the mood for some new Spring items and couldn’t help myself. I guess that’s what happens whenever I’m “browsing” on their website.

It’s been two weeks since my order has arrived so this post will be a haul as well as a first impressions of the things I’ve had time to try.

Deborah Lippman Sweets for my Sweet SetFotor_146300773947514I like Deborah Lippman nail polishes and nothing says Spring like these pretty pastel colours. I’ve been wearing the light yellow shade on my toes for about a week and I think it’s really cute.

Nudestix #Nudelipkit 3 Piece Mini SetFotor_146300912367884I’ve been very curious about nudestix so when I saw this trio I figured it was the perfect time to give them a try. The set came with three nude sticks in a plum nude colour, Belle (matte), Pulse (gel), Mystic (cream). They are all the same colour but a different formulation. You can’t tell a difference between pulse and mystic but I like this colour on me so I’m happy that I can wear it as a matte or gloss. Belle is my standout favourite, it looks really nice on my lips and even though it’s matte, it doesn’t feel drying. It is also like adding this my cheeks for just a flush of colour. They also came in a really cute case with a sharpener included.

Caudalie Grape WaterFotor_146300757156735I wanted a new mist moisturizer and since I own other skincare products from Caudalie that I really like I figured I would give this a try. Here’s what it claims to do off the sephora website;

Grape Water has an intense hydrating ability to retain water within the skin’s corneous layer and hydrop-lipid film. Perfect for sensitive skin, it acts as an anti-inflammatory—soothing rosacea, reducing redness and sensitivity, and calming rashes. This is the perfect go-to after any harsh peels or uncomfortable irritation.

After trying this a few times, I’ve been really happy with how hydrated and fresh my skin feels afterwards. The mist is also really fine which is fantastic. I love that it’s actually made with grape water and not diluted with other ingredients and fillers, you really are getting the pure benefits of this fruit.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Lip PrimerFotor_146300804417946There is a primer for everything these days! I wouldn’t have ever been tempted to purchase a product like this had it not been for my sister. A few weeks ago I was wearing one of the Colourpop ultra matte lip colours (see my haul here) and she suggested I try her primer to increase the longevity of it on my lips. After noticing a difference in how my lips felt and how well my lip colour stayed on I figured I would purchase a primer for myself. The one from Anastasia was the cheapest on the Sephora website and with good reviews I figured it would be perfect to add to my collection.

Kat Von D Tatoo Liner in Mad Max BrownFotor_146300823669264I am in love with this liner! I currently own Tropper (black) so I thought I’d pick up the brown. For me, the brush applicator tip makes it really easy to apply. This is also one of the longest lasting eyeliners on me.

Anthony Exfoliating WipesFotor_146300866412426I wanted a product to exfoliate my skin and when I came across these wipes I knew I had to pick them up. I only need to exfoliate certain parts of my face, namely my t-zone area, and a wipe would be the easiest way to do that. This wipe is enriched with glycolic acid to clear away surface grime and impurities. It has really fine beads that are adhered to the cloth so you can really feel yourself removing any impurities which I really like. The cloths are really big for me since I’m only using them for targeted areas, so I have been cutting the wipe in half and using that to remove the dirt around the areas I need it most. My skin feels really clean, smooth and refreshed afterwards.

What have you tried from Sephora lately? Any stand out products that you’ve been loving?

Lots of Luv,

Dal

Beauty: Little Drugstore Makeup Haul

I recently went shopping at my local Shoppers Drug Mart to check out their new items. I came back with a few things and thought I’d quickly share since I plan to review the majority of them for future posts 🙂

To start off, I have been on a hunt for new foundation since recently finishing two I own. Shoppers had a sale on the new L’Oreal True Match Lumi Cushion Foundation and I thought I would give it a try. I was really impressed with how nicely this matched my skin tone in the store and I liked that the formula was very thin, great for building up coverage or keeping it light.  The next foundation I picked up is the Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum Gel Foundation. I’ve been hearing about this a lot lately on YouTube and beauty gurus rave about the coverage and how well it works for dry skin. This is a bit yellow toned when I swatched it on my hand but I did find that when I blended it on the side of my cheek it matched me really well.   I want to also mention here that a week ago I purchased the Vichy DermaBlend Corrective Compact Cream Foundation from Shoppers. (I know. I feel like I over did it with foundation.) I was convinced by the girls at the counter that this would be great for my skin so I decided I’d pick it up. What I loved is that the formula has a built in SPF 30. I plan to review all three foundations in an upcoming post.  Joe Fresh has made it’s way from Loblaws to Shoppers (makes sense after the grocery store giant bought it). This display was so pretty I had to pick something up! I grabbed the illuminating concealer because I thought it would be nice to counteract my dark circles. Also, the prices in the Joe Fresh line were very reasonable.  There was a small display for NYX, but the duo ended countour and highlighter stick just jumped right at me. I got it in the universal colour. I love how creamy this felt on the back of my hand and how well it blended after I took photos of the initial swatch. I love that the hightlight is not crazy intense, so I’m hoping I get a dewy look from this. I know heavy contouring is out, but I feel like this will help bring some warmth back to my face. Last, but never least, I picked up a new gel eyeliner from essence since I needed to replace my old one. Anyone looking for a good gel eyeliner without breaking the bank needs to give this a try! It’s so good and only costs $3.49!! I also picked up the angled brush because I thought it was super cute!  Can’t wait to try all these products out and let you know my thoughts in the next few weeks 🙂

Have you picked up anything from the drug store lately?

Beauty: Little Sephora Haul

_DSC7402

Recently,  I made a purchase for gifts and items for myself on the Sephora website (it’s so hard not to purchase something for myself at Sephora). I really like shopping this time of year because they have many nice holiday sets and promotions.

What I Purchased

Sephora Favourites Brow Kit

_DSC7389

This was actually gift for my sister. We have both been eyeing kit for a while. This set is the medium/dark colours but there is also a light set. I like that the set includes a small mirror and tweezers, something any brow enthusiast would appreciate. (I had removed the tweezer when I took the photo though :/) Sephora has an array of “Sephora Favourites” kits that make great gifts, and they offered at value prices compared to buying each item individually. (Last I checked, this particular kit was sold out)

Becca Shimmery Trio

_DSC7394

In a previous post I reviewed the Moonstone Shimmery Perfector I mentioned that I would purchase the pressed powder, so when I saw this guy online I thought it was the perfect opportunity to get three shades at one time. This has the ever so popular Champagne Pop and I feel like when I mix it with Pearl I get a really shade that goes well with my skin tone. I also like the Brushed Copper for when I am tanner or to use on my eyes. Compared to the liquid I like this way better!

Becca Shimmery Perfector Opal On The Go

_DSC7390

I think this is a nice little gift set for those who love highlighters. It includes the colour Opal as both the liquid and the pressed powder. Although I’m not in love with the liquid I feel like this packaging is better for application than the tube applicator I had before.

Too Faced Chocolate Bar

_DSC7397

Recently I’ve become more comfortable with eye makeup application, using my Naked 2 palette often in my looks to work. I felt I wanted to venture out and get another palette but not go too crazy buying colours I know I wouldn’t use. Angela at Beauty By The Bunny suggested I give Too Faced Chocolate Bar a try (she’s super sweet and her blog is amazing too). After reading the Sephora reviews I decided I would purchase this and I’m so happy that I did! This has been around for a while now, and it still gets top reviews when it comes to eyeshadow palettes. The colours are perfect for me! It’s mostly neutrals with a few pops of colour shades that are so easy to create colour combos with. I definitely think this is a great gift for someone who is looking for an eyeshadow palette. And yes, it smells like chocolate!

Duo Eye Lash Adhesive

_DSC7403

This one isn’t as exciting but I decided I would purchase the Duo Eyelash Adhesive that had the brush applicator. I wanted to try this one out because I do have issues with using the tubes. With holiday parties around the corner I know a lot of us will want to get glamoured up so don’t forget to pick up an eyelash adhesive with your falsies! haha!

Clinque Moisture Surge

_DSC7392

I ordered this using my Beauty Insider points. My skin is always needing moisture and I’ve been using this one for a bit now and really like it. It makes my skin feel moisturized without feeling overly greasy.

Playful Prep Sample Bag

_DSC7387

One of the biggest reasons why I love shopping at Sephora online during the holiday season is because of their deluxe sample bags! By spending $25  CAD on the site I was able to pick up this lovely. It’s full of some awesome samples, and most are deluxe size. I’m not sure if this exact bag is still offered on the site, but currently they are offering a party mix bag with 12 free samples. I think these are awesome kits to save for yourself or to give to someone else.

What items are you shopping for this holiday? Have you ever ended up purchasing items for yourself when looking for gift for someone else?
