Tarte Cosmetics Be You Naturally Eyeshadow Palette
MSRP: $36.00 US

BoxyCharmJune2019_LBL2

You can never go wrong with a palette in my books. Whether I use them myself or give them away as gifts a new palette is always exciting for me to recieve. I enjoy Tarte palettes, I own quite a few in my collection so I’m excited to recieve another one in my box. This has that same delicious vanilla scent that my Tartelette In Bloom palette so I’m really hoping the formula is the same because I love that palette.

BoxyCharmJune2019_LBL3

Although this is a neutral palette I love the layout and colours in this palette. This has 4 shimmer shades and 4 mattes.

Touch In Sol No Poreblem Prime Essence
MSRP: $23.00 US

BoxyCharmJune2019_LBL5

I thought this was a primer to wear before makeup but reading the packaging you can use it as the last step of your skincare routine. It’s infused with Calendula Officinalis Flower Extract to tighten pores and keep your skin smooth. I received The Touch In Sol No Poreblem Primer and I absolutely love it so I’m excited to try another product in this line. The essence will come in handy during the summer heat.

Dominque Cosmetics Lemonade Lipgloss in Pink Lemonade
MSRP: $17.00 US

BoxyCharmJune2019_LBL7

This lip gloss is supposed to add hydration, shine and fullness to your lips. I’m not sure I’m into this colour but if it is hydrating I will give it a try. A lot of reviews on BoxyCharm website have been positive so I hope it’s got a nice formula.

St. Tropez Self Tan Classic Bronzing Mousse
MSRP: $24.50 US

BoxyCharmJune2019_LBL4

I have a couple of these little St. Tropez Self Tanning Mousse so I really didn’t care to get another one. Not to say that this is a bad product but I have enough self-tanners in my collection. I appreciate that it came with a mitt which is super helpful for application. I might pass this along to a friend.

Dirty Little Secret Lip Liner in Rosie Posie
MSRP: $15.00 US

BoxyCharmJune2019_LBL6

I find that I prefer to wear lipliner with a gloss or balm on top vs a lipstick or colourful gloss so I’m pretty happy to have a lip liner in my collection. I already started wearing this item and I think it’s great! It has a dark nude colour which looks really nice with my bronze eyeshadow. The formula is dry but still smooth over the lips. It’s the kind I prefer for this kind of lip liner.

My Thoughts

I’m pretty happy with this month’s box. It really aligns with the theme and I’m very excited about a lot of the items, especially the Tarte eyeshadow palette and the DLS lip liner. I’m also really curious about the Touch In Sol primer essence. We will see how well that works on my skin.

Total Value: $115.50 US ($152.40 CAD)

Did you get BoxyCharm this month? What was in your box? What did you enjoy or not?

Review: First Aid Beauty Face Cleanser

I keep two types of cleansers on my vanity. One is always a gentle, every day type cleanser. The other is a gritty, exfoliating deep cleansing one. Throughout the week I’ll switch through them. Most days I use a gentle cleanser and then I’ll use my exfoliating cleanser a few times a week inbetween. Then, on lazy days I just use micellar water or a makeup wipe and call it a day! Hehe!

If you wanted to read my makeup remover post you can here.

Next week I’ll share a review of my Vasanti Cosmetics Exfoliating Cleanser but today I wanted to share a review of the gentle cleanser I’ve been enjoying. My First Aid Beauty Face Cleanser.

FirstAidBeautyReview_LBL (1)

What It Is

A fragrance-free, gentle cleanser that effectively removes makeup, dirt, and grime, leaving skin soft and supple. (Sephora.ca)

I read that this is good for dryness and redness. I suffer from dry skin so I always love cleansers that are designed to be hydrating. This has aloe and glycerin which nourishes, and hydrates the skin and FAB Antioxidant Booster to help with environmental agressors.

This is Allergy-Tested, Gluten-Free, Nut-Free, Oil-Free, Soy-Free, Suitable for Sensitive Skin, Vegan, Nano-Free. (FirstAidBeauty.com)

Price

$14.00 CAD (2oz). This is pretty reasonably priced especially since you need very little when washing your face. A pea-sized amount is enough for me.

FirstAidBeautyReview_LBL (7)

Application

This is a very creamy cleanser that doesn’t foam up too much. The texture reminds me of Origin’s Checks & Balances cleanser because it’s a thicker consistency. Whenever I use it I find that it feels more like cleanser/moisturizer hybrid. It feels very good.

FirstAidBeautyReview_LBL (4)

I think it’s super effective at removing makeup. Like, really effective. It might be one of the best makeup removing cleansers I’ve ever tried. It’s very gentle and doesn’t sting my eyes which makes it a dream for removing makeup around my eyes and lashes which is where I tend to wear the heaviest makeup. Even if a little gets in my eyes, it won’t sting them like other cleansers have in the past. It leaves my skin feeling super clean, when I rinse it off. I dry my face with a white towel and a rarely get makeup residue on it. I don’t even need to use a makeup wipe before or after, it’s really good on its own.

My skin always feels really clean, but unlike a harsh cleanser, it still leaves it feeling supple. I find that my skin just feels good and clear and I usually just apply a serum or moisturizer afterwards and call it a day.

FirstAidBeautyReview_LBL (3)

My Thoughts

I’ve tried sample packets of this cleanser and liked it but this is my first time using a whole tube of it consistently over the last few weeks. Generally, my skin doesn’t feel tight or dry and it hasn’t been irritated by this product. It’s very good. I would wholeheartedly recommend this! If you are looking for a good every day, gentle cleanser, this is the one!

Have you tried the First Aid Beauty Cleanser? What are your thoughts? Have you tried anything else from this brand?

Lots of Love,
Dal

Unboxing BoxyCharm, May 2019

Price: $21.00 USD (+$5.00 shipping to Canada)
Number of items: 4-5 full-size items

First off, Happy Victoria Day to my fellow Canadians!

Boxycharm is a monthly subscription box of full-size makeup, skincare and beauty tools. The theme for this month is “Make Waves”. I am getting so excited with this summer themed boxes, I can’t wait for the weather to get warmer! It has still been pretty cold and rainy in Toronto! Come on SUMMER!!!

PRICES ARE IN USD, CONVERTED TO CAD AT THE END

Glamglow GentleBubble Cleanser
MSRP: $28.00 USUnboxingBoxyCharmLBL (6)

I was super excited when I saw this was in my BoxyCharm. This gel cleanser is made for all skin types and is vegan. It has oat amino acids, apple extract, vitamin E and green tea extract. I think the packaging is really fun and I love that it’s a large size tube! I’m pretty impressed! I love GlamGlow masks so I’m really excited to give this a try.

Alamar Colorette Blushe Trio
MSRP: $22.00 US

UnboxingBoxyCharmLBL (3)

This is a pretty blush trio and if it’s anything like the Alamar eyeshadow powder it is probably a good formula. This is described as highly pigmented & completely vegan formula to deliver a sun-kissed flush.

UnboxingBoxyCharmLBL (4)

I think the colours are really pretty, I’m most excited for Paraiso since I love pink but Scorcher could be a fun golden summer shade for me too. I got the fair-light palette which is perfect for me. BoxyCharm was also including the medium/tan and dark/rich palette in other variations of this box.

Ciate London Eye Lustre Creme Eyeshadow
MSRP: $22.00 US

UnboxingBoxyCharmLBL (9)

This is a pretty cream eye shadow. I saw a review of this and it looks to be a lot sheerer than it is in the package. I actually prefer to try something sheerer since I have more glittery shadows for when I really want to wear a dramatic eye look. I think it’ll look really pretty over my lids and I look forward to wearing it every day.

Dose of Colors
MSRP: $18.00 US

UnboxingBoxyCharmLBL (8)

I’ve never tried anything from Dose of Colors but I’ve been curious to especially since a lot of YouTubers I follow have collaborated with this brand. This is a liquid matte lipstick with long-wearing colour. Reading the description, this applies liquid but dries down to a comfortable matte finish. The colour is pretty bright for my liking but I would try the formula and who knows, it might become my summer colour!

Mellow Brow Definer
MSRP: $18.00 US

UnboxingBoxyCharmLBL (7)

I’m happy to get a new eyebrow product. I’m always open to trying new ones and I like ones similar to the Mellow style which are thicker pencil-like eyebrow applicators. This one is great because it has a triangular tip and a spooly on the other end.

My Thoughts

This is such a great box! I like all the items in it and am really excited to start using. I’m most excited for the Brow Definer and the Glamglow cleanser.

Total Value: $108 US ($147 CAD)

Did you get BoxyCharm this month? What is in your box?

Bye Bye Empties, April 2019

Soooo….. This is being posted later than I usually upload my empties but I was away at the end of April and I’ve been in vacation mode even after I got back! haha!

April was such a fun month for me. Earlier in the month, I travelled to Quebec to my favourite spa for a super relaxing weekend and at the end of the month, I took a trip to Jamaica for an unplugged week in the beautiful sun! If you follow me on Instagram you would have seen photos and stories of my time there. April was all about shifting the focus onto myself and just hitting reset. I have more fun planned for May so I’m just excited to have this year rolling!

What are your personal highlights from April?

Now on to what I used up!

*Note: I’m on a no-buy this year. If I mention repurchasing an item, it just means that I really liked it and would buy again, just not in 2019.

Body Care

EmptiesApril2019_LBL (2)

Bath & Body Works Forever Sunshine Shower Gel. I love summer scents from Bath & Body Works so this one is definitely a favourite of mine. These body washes lather up so nicely and are great for cleansing the skin. I am on a no-buy BUT I think I’m going to need body wash soon which is perfect timing for me to get new B&BW shower gels in summer scents!

Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel Sunscreen SPF 50. I used this up on my trip to Jamaica and let me say that it is amazing! I wish it came in a large tube because it really is all I need for the summer. The gel formula blends into my skin quickly and left me hydrated without that greasy feel that I usually experience with sunscreen. It also has a pleasant scent which I greatly enjoy. I think I have another half-full bottle of this that I can use up. I currently have enough sunscreens for this year that I won’t need to purchase a new one but I would repurchase this and totally recommend it if you have dry skin like me.

EmptiesApril2019_LBL (3)

Aveda Hand Relief Moisturizing Creme. This is a good hand cream, especially if you like them a little bit thicker like I do. It’s a sample size tube so I can easily carry it with me in the winter months to apply on the go. I used this a lot during the last few months and I was impressed by how long this lasted. I have a lot of hand creams so I won’t be repurchasing this.

EmptiesApril2019_LBL (6)

Vichy Aqualia Thermal Serum. This is a really hydrating serum. Sometimes, I would apply just this product and skip moisturizer because it’s that good. It has a concentration of the Vichy Thermal Spa Water and hyaluronic acid which is perfect for my dry skin. I would repurchase this.

Fresh Soy Face Cleanser. Again, I’ve used up another one of these cleansers. It’s one of my favourite every-day cleansers that is so gentle on my skin but super effective at clearing it of makeup and impurities. I think I have another one to use up but right now I have other cleansers that I’m enjoying and need to use up before I open another one. I would definitely repurchase this.

EmptiesApril2019_LBL (5)

L’Oreal Revitalift Bright Reveal Brightening Cleansing Scrub. I always keep a daily cleanser and scrub available for use on my vanity because I love to alternate between to two so that I can ensure every few days I give my skin a deep skin but also give it a break by using products without exfoliators. This one from L’Oreal is great because it has large granules and glycolic acid. I would repurchase this.

Haircare

EmptiesApril2019_LBL (4)

Novex Bamboo Sprout Leave-In Conditioner. I got this in my November 2016 Topbox which is a pretty long time to be holding on to a product. I got four uses out of this product because I was really trying to use it up. I thought it was alright, it doesn’t leave my hair has silky soft and hydrated as other Leave In Conditioners I’ve tried so I won’t be purchasing this.

Briogeo Rosarco Milk Reparative Leave-In Conditioning Spray. Thanks to BoxyCharm and Ipsy, I’ve been able to build a nice little collection of Briogeo products and I’m not mad at that. I love their products! What I really love about a leave-in spray verse a cream like the Novex one is that I can use this AFTER I get out of the shower. What I do is apply this to my hair when it’s damp and then style it. Even when I don’t style my hair I like applying this because it really rehydrates my hair. I would repurchase this.

Fragrance

EmptiesApril2019_LBL (7)

Marc Jacobs Daisy. If you want my thoughts on this you can read my review here. I still have a full-size of this so I won’t be repurchasing this anytime soon, but I always love having a fresh scent like this around.

Gucci Gucci Premier. I love these little samples because then I get to test out a scent and they are so perfect for travelling. I brought this and my sample of Daisy above to my trip to Jamaica and they were perfect sizes for a one-week trip. This scent is sweet but still has a very fresh element. It has top notes of orange blossom (I love this scent) and Bergamot. I had never tried it before but I really love the smell so I would definitely repurchase.

~~~
Compared to last month, I used up more items which I’m really happy with. It’s mostly due to me taking a lot of the items above on vacation so I ended up only using those items whereas at home I’m always using different things! haha!
What items have you used up for April?
Lots of Love,
Dal
Bye Bye Empties, March 2019
Spring is officially here in Toronto! It’s slowly getting warmer and although there are some rainy days it’s been equally sunny and I love it! The days are getting longer, and soon it’ll be patio season! I’ve had some ups and downs this month, but I’m looking forward to what April has in store. The last two months I’ve had quite a lot of empties so I’m not surprised I don’t have as many items in March because a lot of my current items are recently opened.
*Note: I’m on a no-buy this year. If I mention repurchasing an item, it just means that I really liked it and would buy again, just not in 2019.
Skincare
March2019Empties_LBL3
L’Oreal Revitalift Triple Power LZR (Sample). The texture of this face cream is interesting. It’s like a hybrid between a gel and cream and it feels so good on the skin. It blends in so easily and it was good at leaving my skin moisturized. The sample lasted about 3 uses so I can’t say that I noticed a brightening effect but I did really like the texture so I might be interested in picking this up in a full-size.
L’Oreal Micellar Water Complete Cleanser. I thought this micellar water is alright. I think the big test for me is how well a micellar water can break down my eye makeup and mascara. This one did a good job but it did leave behind some residue for some of my more stubborn makeup (waterproof mascara). I did like it as a precleanse for before I washed my face. I have quite a few micellar waters to use up so I’m not sure I would repurchase this one until I’ve tested the other new ones I’m currently using.
Garnier Moisture Bomb Gel Cream (Sample). I received this sample in my July 2018 Topbox. Once I finally got around to opening this I used it up after 5 uses, I enjoyed it so much. This is a great everyday moisturizer that leaves my skin super hydrated but is also really light in texture. I would definitely repurchase this.
March2019Empties_LBL5
Shiseido Facial Cotton. This is an item that I’ve shared in an empties post before. Whenever I there is a spend your points event through Shoppers Drug Mart I always pick up a pack of these. I actually have two packs of the MUJI Cut Cotton pads which are practically dupes of these guys so I won’t be repurchasing these any time soon.
Makeup
March2019Empties_LBL4
Tarte Amazonian Clay Waterproof Brow Pencil. I picked this up when I was shopping online on the Tarte website a few months ago because I needed a brow pencil and I figured I would test this out. I got the shade medium brown which works with my brows. I like this formula because it’s creamy but not so much that I’m afraid it’s going to rub off my eyebrows so quickly, but it does apply easily. I really like it and I would repurchase this.
Benefit Dew the Hoola Bronzer (Sample). This is a bronzer I got at the Benefit booth at GenBeauty 3 years ago. When I first started using this I didn’t really like it until I found a method that worked for me which was to use my beauty blender to blend this into my skin and then I was using this all the time. I was pretty sad when I used this up so I know when I’m done my no-buy for this year I’m going to pick up a full size of this!
~~~

There you have it! My empties for March. There isn’t that many items, but I’m glad I used up some items that I’ve had in my stash for some time.

What items have you used up for March?

Lots of Love,
Dal

Unboxing BoxyCharm, March 2019

Price: $21.00 USD (+$5.00 shipping to Canada)
Number of items: 4-5 full-size items

Boxycharm is a monthly subscription box of full-size makeup, skincare and beauty tools. The theme for this month is “’la vie en rose”.

BoxyCharmMarch2019_LBL3

I think it’s a cute theme for spring and a lot of the items has rose gold packaging.

PRICES ARE IN USD, CONVERTED TO CAD AT THE END

CoverFX Perfector Face Palette
MSRP: $45.00 USD

BoxyCharmMarch2019_LBL10

I am loving the layout and colours in this face palette. It fits with my style and I like the colours in it. I like CoverFX products so I’m pretty excited to try this formula. The highlights are beautiful and the blush is a pretty pink that I would wear everyday.

BoxyCharmMarch2019_LBL11

The packaging feels very sturdy so I suspect it would be great for travel. The nice thing about taking this on the go is that you will have everything you need for the face in one place. I personally would even use the contour and bronze shade on my eyes.

Wander Beauty Lift off Purifying and Brightening Pell Off Mask
MSRP: $34.00 USD

BoxyCharmMarch2019_LBL6

This mask contains acai, goji berry, blueberry, lychee, mangosteen, kaolin clay and green tea extract all which are great items for the skin. I haven’t used a peel-off mask in a while but I am interested in trying one to purify and replenish my skin. What makes this mask interesting is that it is rose gold.

MODA Brushes Powder and Soft Glow Kit
MSRP: $29.99 USD

BoxyCharmMarch2019_LBL8

This is a 2-piece powder and highlight brush. They are really soft and fluffy brushes. I like the style of the brush handles too, the rose gold and tapered style makes them easy to hold and really fancy.

BoxyCharmMarch2019_LBL9

I have brushes that are similar so I might save them as a gift for a friend but I think they are fantastic brushes.

Ofra Long Lasting Liquid Lipstick
MSRP: $20.00 USD

BoxyCharmMarch2019_LBL5

These liquid lipsticks are creamy and soft in texture and are meant to be long-lasting and full colour. This colour is really pretty but it’s darker from what I would usually like to wear so I think I might save this for a friend who likes darker shades.

Manna Kadar Bloom Mascara
MSRP: $29.00 USD

BoxyCharmMarch2019_LBL7

I find it’s interesting that I’ve been receiving a lot of Manna Kadar products through my subscription boxes. They may have a marketing initiative to get more and more people to discover and test their products so they’ve decided to send a bunch to subscription box companies to increase their reach. This mascara looks really interesting. I mean the packaging is really cool, but it’s also formulated with a built-in primer. I didn’t open the packaging but if you are interested in what the brush looks like you can check out their website here. The brush is very interesting with long and short bristles which are supposed to ensure easy application without leaving any clumps.

My Thoughts

This is a really good box! I’m really excited to try the CoverFX palette because I generally like items that I’ve tried from this brand and the face palette looks so good. I’m also looking forward to testing out the mascara and peel-off mask.

Total Value: $157.99 USD ($212.44 CAD)

Did you get BoxyCharm this month? What was in your box?

Let’s Glow! Wet N’ Wild Megaglo Highlighting Powder Review

When it comes to highlight, I’m really into a natural, lit from within type of look. I always find that bold highlights don’t really work for my style. When I got this in my Topbox back in March I was really happy to see they sent me a shade I’d wear.

What It Is

Infused with ultra-reflective and micro-fine pearl pigments, this baked powder is everything you need to shine radiantly from the inside out. (Wetnwild.com)

WetnWildHightlighter (4)

Price

$6.99 CAD. Surprisingly, Amazon & Walmart Canada has these listed for $12.00-$13.00.  I found them on Well.ca for $6.99 so that’s the price I’m using here.

Colour

This is a pearl/rose shade that is really light and shimmery. My cheeks are pretty rosy and I enjoy wearing a pink or peach blush so I find a highlighter that works with my blush is what I gravitate too.

WetnWildHightlighter (5)

Packaging

The packing is very simple but I do like it. It is square with a clear cover so you can see the colour inside. I love the little flower imprint on the powder itself, it’s a nice touch.

WetnWildHightlighter (3)

Application & Wear

First looking at this highlighter I thought it might be grainy and make my skin look like it had a lot of texture but it looks super smooth on the skin and it feels really creamy. I really enjoy this highlight for everyday because it’s not super intense on initial application. You can layer it if you wanted it to be bolder, but for me I like keeping it on the light side. One time I even put this on top of my lips to add some shine to my lipstick and I thought it looked really pretty like that.

WetnWildHightlighter (2)

This does fade a little by the end of the day, there is still a little glow. I’m sure if I layered this more it would last longer, but since I’d rather keep it natural I’m good with it fading a little after 4 or 5 hours.

All in all, this is a great highlighter and the price is even better. It works as well as any of the high end highlighters I reviewed on my blog (see that post here). I would definitely recommend giving it a try.

Birthday Gifts, Increasing My Makeup Collection

I usually don’t share items that I get as gifts on my birthday as a dedicated post but since I’m on a no-buy this year I thought it would be fun to include them since I won’t be purchasing anything myself and posting any hauls. You might see some of these pop up on the blog later on as reviews or empties 🙂

Smashbox L.A. Cover Shot Eye Palette

Birthday2019_LBL (3)

I’ve reviewed the Smashbox Cover Shot Eye Palettes before that you can read here. I have a total of 4 Cover Shot palettes in my collection and this new one makes 5! The original palettes have 8 shades but this one has 16 shades (9 mattes and 7 shimmers).

Birthday2019_LBL (5)

This seems to have good reviews online so I’m excited about this palette. I like that there is a range of looks you can create, from smokey to everyday to days when you want pops of colour!

Shoppers Drug Mart Eye Studio Sampler Mascaras

Birthday2019_LBL (10)

I love these sets as gifts for others so I’m really happy that I received this myself! Basically, you get 9 mascara samples to test out and a gift certificate to trade in for one full size mascara from the 9 you have tried.

Birthday2019_LBL (1)

It’s a great way to test out new mascaras. I know there are a few in here that I already love, but I am curious about testing out the one from Lise Waiter, Pur Cosmetics and Clarins!

Aveda Stress-Fix Body Lotion

Birthday2019_LBL (8)

I love the scent of lavender because it’s so calming. A friend of mine is always getting me this lotion because she knows I like to use it in the evenings before going to bed because the scent helps me relax before sleep. It’s also hydrating which is perfect for my dry skin!

Tatcha Luminous Dewy Skin Mist

Birthday2019_LBL (9)

This wasn’t necessarily a gift from a friend but more like a gift for myself from BoxyCharm. Through purchases and reviews on BoxyCharm you collect points which you can redeem on their website for makeup, skincare and tools. I had accumulated enough points to trade in for the Tatcha skin mist that I figured why not! I’m excited to give it a try as I know this has a lot of good reviews.

Your Quilt Creations Tripple Zipper Anything. Everything Pouch Bag

Birthday2019_LBL (6)

When I got this bag I immediately thought it would make a fantastic makeup bag for traveling. I love how there are little zipper and open compartments that can be used to store everything I might need to take with me on a trip. It has these great handles to carry around and it opens up super wide so you can see everything you have at a glance.

Birthday2019_LBL (7)

You may not know, but I’m obsessed with Batman and DC comics so I thought the design was super cute! I tried to find their store on Etsy and the web but had no luck, but I found them on Facebook. I really think it’s important to support local business owners and this bag is awesome!

Have you tried any of the items above? I’d love to know your thoughts.

Lots of Love,
Dal

Bye Bye Empties, January 2019

Whoa! The first month of 2019 is over! I think January has felt like a time to refresh and start the new year with new blog goals. There has been a lot going on in my personal life too, a bit of extra stress at work but luckily towards the end I was able to sort it out.I also started celebrating my birthday with friends and family towards the end of January even though my actual birthday is February 1st.

20190201_153036

Here’s what I used up in January;

*Note: I’m on a no-buy this year so if I say I’ll repurchase an item, it just means that I liked it enough to buy it again, but just not in 2019 😛

Body Care

20190201_153237

Aveeno Positively Radiant Exfoliating Body Wash (reviewed here) I loved the scent of this body wash and how it left my skin feeling soft, smooth and hydrated. I would definitely repurchase this the next time I’m in need of an exfoliating body wash.

Bath & Body Works In the Clouds Body Wash. I wasn’t impressed with this body wash. The scent wasn’t my favourite and it didn’t leave me feeling clean even if I would pump a huge foam mountain of this. I won’t be repurchasing.

Marvis Toothpaste in Classic Strong Mint (other flavours reviewed here). I’m just going through all my Marvis toothpaste flavours and loving it! I have a couple more before I completely run out but I would repurchase them! Although this is labeled as “strong mint” I didn’t think it was as minty as one might expect, I don’t think I’d get this particular flavour again.

Skincare

20190201_153330

L’Oreal Revitalift Bright Reveal Brightening Duo. I mentioned a few months back in a previous empties post that I had the opportunity to test out the full Revitatlift range. This duo was one of the stand-out products for me. I applied it every evening and thought that the cream and serum worked really well to hydrate and brighten my skin. I would repurchase this.

Ole Henrikson Sheer Transformation Perfecting Moisturizer (reviewed here). This was a fantastic day cream. It was light, creamy and absorbed quickly into the skin. I have a few other moisturizers that I need to use up so time so I don’t think I’ll repurchase this until I’ve used them up.

Fresh Vitamin Nectar Vibrancy Boosting Face Mask. Oh, my obsession with Fresh is real! I love this mask! It has pieces of fruit in it so whenever I accidentally got some in my mouth it tasted so good! It was also really good at hydrating my skin. The only downside was that it was a bit messy so I would use this on days when I had some time to really wash it off my face, but I would definitely repurchase this.

Papa Recipe Bombee Fruitables Red Squeeze Intensive Mask. I received this in my December Topbox and was really excited to try it because it sounded to be an interesting mask. One, the sheet mask was thinner than traditional masks so it stuck to my face well and two, it had 5 extracts; tomato, apple, pomegranate, mangosteen and redcurrant, all of which are supposed to improve the skin. I’d probably repurchase this and other masks from this brand.

Makeup

20190201_153430

Benefit They’re Real Mascara. I generally like all the Benefit mascaras but this one is a staple in my collection. I really like my lashes to look super long and fanned out and this mascara does that for me. I recently used this up in my Project Pan for January. I would definitely repurchase this!

Kat Von D Tattoo Liner in Mad Max. This is a brown liner in the popular KVD brush tip liner style. I like the brown because it looks really nice for my everyday makeup when I want to do a winged liner but feel like using a black liner would be intense. I like having brown liners in my collection for that reason. Unfortunately, I don’t have another brown liquid liner to use for the rest of the year but I do have a few pencils which should hold me over until the end of 2019, after that, I’m sure I’ll repurchase this guy!

~~~
That’s all my empties for January. I think I did OK. I’m happy to have used up a lot of different items and clear them out of my collection. It’s been feeling really good lately to use up what I have knowing that I’m truly clearing out my stash.
What items have you been able to use up in January?
Lots of Love,
Review: Nudestix Gel Color Lip & Cheek Balm in Pulse
I love easy makeup. I like items that you can apply and blend out quickly and be on your way that doesn’t look too overdone. Of course every once in a while I like to spend over an hour perfecting a makeup look, but usually, I like being put together and natural. I like items that are one and done types of products that can be used in multiple ways.
Nudestix checks off all these boxes for me!
If you’ve never heard of Nudestix, they are a company that focuses on natural looking makeup. Started by two sisters and their mom, they sell sticks or crayons for the face, eyes and lips that add a touch of colour to enhance your natural look. Their products are vegan and cruelty-free. Plus they are Canadian!
I’ve been using Nudestix for so many years now, but I’ve never reviewed their products. Today, I figured why not review this lip & cheek balm since it’s in my project pan for January.
Price
When I bought this it came in a pack of 3 mini sticks in similar nude tones for $28.00 CAD, you can find it on their website here. The three pack had three different finishes, a matte, a cream, and a gel. I’ll be focusing on the gel balm in Pulse.
Packaging
Whenever you buy a nudestix item, they usually come in a metal tin with a sharpener. I love the little tin because you can easily keep all the products together. The tin also has a mirror which is great of you want to take these on the go.
The sharpener itself also doubles a lid for the stix, so if you like to keep one in your purse, you’d have the sharpener too. Just super clever and sleek packaging.
Application & Wear
I Immediately fell in love with Pulse because I love the gel formula.  It’s super creamy and hydrating without being greasy on the lips. The colour is natural and just enhances my own lip colour. I love wearing a lip like this whenever I’m rocking a warm eye shadow. It almost feels like a gloss and has so much shine without the stickiness.
I have actually tried this formula on my cheeks as well and it applies and blends really well as blush. Even though this is gel formula, I think on me it leaves a nice dewy finish. With dry skin, I tend to like this type of look a lot. I love wearing this when I’m doing a minimal or no makeup look because it looks very flattering on my natural skin. It does apply well over foundation too.
The only downside is it’s not very long lasting. I might be able to get away with an hour of wear before it starts to fade away. Because it’s close to my lip colour, I don’t mind it so much but if I’m wearing this out, I do find that I re-apply pretty often. Note though that the matte and cream formulas are longer lasting in comparison.
My Thoughts
Overall, I really love this formula because as someone who doesn’t wear lip products often I mostly prefer that they are more balm-like. I love the packaging and the brand overall. I’ll have to share my thoughts on the Nudestix eye crayons soon because those are AMAZING!
Have you tried Nudestix before? What are your thoughts on the brand and products?
Lots of Love,
