Favourite Products of 2019

This year there were a lot of products that I enjoyed and I’m going to share a few of them here. For 2019, I was on a no-buy and that allowed me to really use up a lot of products that I have in my collection and figure out what I enjoyed. I also had a monthly Project Pan so that I could focus on using up some products in my stash too. I did a lot of decluttering and had lots of empty products. Overall, I was able to reduce the amount of makeup and skincare I had which really felt so good. It’s interesting because a year or two ago, I was obsessed with collecting and buying new beauty items and wanted to grow my collection. I think I started to find last year that I wasn’t as excited with new makeup as I was with re-discovering what I had.

Jacklyn Hill x Morphe Eyeshadow Palette

Faves2019_LBL (3)

I did a full review of this product which you can find here and I also featured this in my Project Pan for March which you can read the round-up of here. I even used it for my pretty pink makeup look. What I love about this palette is that I can open it up and create so many easy day looks, some elegant or smokey evening looks and some fun colourful looks. The shades work well all year long because you have some nice neutrals, pinks, oranges, blues, greens and even a purple.

Faves2019_LBL (4)

The formula is also pretty good. I was creating a blue eye shadow look with my Alyssa Edwards x Anastasia Palette and I couldn’t get the blue in that palette to work so I ended up creating the looking using mostly the Jacklyn Hill palette because that blue was so much easier to work with! I don’t get bored with this palette either. I loved this in 2019!

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit – Volume 4

Faves2019_LBL (5)

I could go on and on about how I love how this palette looks on my skin so if you are curious about my thoughts on this take a look at my reviews here and here It’s so finely milled that it really takes on a second-skin effect rather than looking like powder on the face. I was hesitant at first to purchase the palette because it is very pricey and the only way I justified getting this was during the Sephora VIB Sale. This is one of the only palettes where I wear all the different pans of products. The face powder, highlight, bronzer and blushes all work so well together and work well on me. Plus, I’ve been using this almost daily for the past two months and I don’t see a dent in the pans! It’s really not cakey or powdery.

Garnier Skin Active BB Cream 5 in 1 Miracle Skin Perfecter

Faves2019_LBL (6)

I really love BB Creams. I am not really picky about what I use as long as it’s light in texture and is moisturizer. This one from Garnier works so well. You can read my review of this here. The texture feels whipped so it’s very light and airy on the skin. It helps even out my skin tone without being super heavy. It’s moisturizing too. Since receiving this in the summer I’ve worn it almost every day. I wore this a lot for work because it gave me enough coverage without looking overdone. I also enjoyed it on days that I was just running some errands because it helped me look awake without it being too much makeup that would feel like it clogged my pores. It was just a solid product that really was versatile for me this year.

Physicians Formula Super BB Instaready Bronzer

Faves2019_LBL (7)

Lastly, I wore this bronzer so much this year and it’s almost completely used up! This started off in my Project Pan in 2018 when I had chosen 18 products to use throughout the whole year. I broke it, put it back together and then continued to use it. You can see a review of this here. I found that I was reaching for this bronzer time and time again. This shade is light so it works with my skin tone and my love of more natural-looking makeup. I also like that it’s cool-toned so it didn’t look orange against my skin and also doubled as a contour.

Faves2019_LBL (8)

I love the formula because it’s finely milled and doesn’t have a lot of fall-out so I don’t have to worry if I go a bit heavy-handed with this. It is super easy to build up to my desired look. I originally was trying to use this up so I could move on to other bronzers but I think I might just repurchase this one instead because I know it works perfectly on me. Why change something that isn’t broken, right?

Faves2019_LBL (2)

All in all, these are some of the products I was loving in 2019. I did have other products I liked but I didn’t want this post to be too long so I focused on items I know I couldn’t go without in my collection and that I genuinely used all the time.

What are some of your favourite products that got a lot of love in 2019?

Lots of Love,
Dal

PS. Wishing you a happy new year!

Favourites from the Boxes, November 2018

It’s been a while since I’ve shared some favourites from my subscription boxes. I have so many items currently open in my collection that I need to get through so it’s been difficult to try products right as I get them every month. That being said, the items below are ones that I have been able to test and use over the last few weeks.

Pretty Vulgar Eye Liner
Received in Boxycharm May 2018

FavesFromBoxes_Oct2018 (3)

It has been a long time since I’ve used a gel liner and I’ve forgotten how much I really like them until I received this in my BoxyCharm. Before I became good at applying liquid liner I used gel all the time.

This one from Pretty Vulgar is a super deep black that dries matte fairly quickly. It’s very creamy and easy to apply. I really love this for creating a wing and for my waterline. I love this packaging! It looks like an old ink jar which is adorable.

Everything Balm by Cake Beauty
Received in Topbox September 2016

FavesFromBoxes_Oct2018 (8)

I’m so happy that this hasn’t gone bad! I got this a long time ago in Topbox, but it wasn’t until the weather started getting colder that I finally cracked it open. This is an everything balm, which you can use on your lips, cuticles, cracked skin, eyebrows, split ends, etc. It’s pretty emollient which makes it easy to spread over the areas you want to hydrate.

FavesFromBoxes_Oct2018 (9)

I’ve applied this on my lips and cuticles to help them from drying out. Usually, items from Cake Beauty are strongly scented, but not this guy. It has a nice cream scent that is not overbearing. This is a gem for the colder months! It reminds me a lot of my favourite ointment, the Dr. Lipp Nipple Balm but this one by Cake Beauty is a lot more creamy and I can easily find this at my local Shoppers Drug Mart Store.

Aesthetica P12 Face Brush
Received in BoxyCharm May 2018

FavesFromBoxes_Oct2018 (6)

This super fluffy domed brush is one that I have been using whenever I want to lightly dust powder all over my face. This could also work perfectly for blush.

FavesFromBoxes_Oct2018 (7)

I love that the bristles are long, flexible and soft and the dome shape helps disperse powder evenly. I use this way more than I did my other powder brushes so I know it’s good.

Well, there they are! Some of the items from my beauty boxes that have really been standing out to me. Have you been enjoying any items from your subscription boxes?

No Stink Here! My Favourite Deodorants

About three years ago I switched from using antiperspirant to deodorant. It took my body about a month to adjust but after that period I’ve been so happy that I stopped using antiperspirant. At first, I thought I would sweat and smell so much worse when I stopped using antiperspirant and the first little while I was constantly scrubbing my armpits and spraying lots of perfume while my body adjusted. Turns out though that I sweat a lot less now and I don’t stink as much. My body has found a happy balance.

For the last few years, I have been putting so many different deodorants to the test, seeing what would work for my body chemistry and provide me with all day freshness.  Of all the ones I’ve tried, the ones I’ve listed below are my favourite. I’ve arranged them from my ultimate favourite to favourite 🙂

1. Kiss My Face Active Life Deodorant (Fragrance-Free)

Favourite Deodorant (4)

It’s weird to think that a fragrance free deodorant would keep me feeling really fresh and stink-free! I guess having no scent works great for me and my body chemistry. This is a gel consistency and I like the way it glides under my arms.

Favourite Deodorant (6)

It’ll last about 8-9 hours before I feel like I’d need to reapply. Even if I’m having an active day, I know this will keep me protected. Because I can’t find this in store, I always order 3-4 at a time online. I think this comes in other scents but I love the fragrance free formula.

2. Yves Rocher 24h Deodorant in Cotton Flower from India

Favourite Deodorant (2)

This is a roller ball deodorant and I’ve mentioned this before in my empties post. At first, this feels really watery so I have to be careful with how much I use for the first few uses. After that, I feel like the consistency thins out and applies a little bit more evenly. It is very creamy so it almost feels like it moisturizes under my arms as well.

Favourite Deodorant (3)

I really love the smell of this and unlike the Kiss my Face Deodorant, I feel like it lasts a little bit longer on me. The only other downside is that this empties pretty quickly on me so I find I constantly have to repurchase. I keep backups of this always as well!

3. Pacifica Underarm Deodorant Wipes

Favourite Deodorant (9)

I love the scent of these wipes and how they are so perfect for on the go! One wipe is too big for me so I’ll split it into two which is great because then I don’t feel like I’m being wasteful.

Favourite Deodorant (10)

If I know I have a long day (ie work then an evening out) I like to use this because I can keep the wipes with me and reapply as needed. I  find that this is a great option to keep with you if you want to freshen up later in the day or after the gym. I have not tried the other scents but I really enjoy this coconut scent because it’s light and tropical and reminds me of summer.

Well, there you go! My top deodorants! Let me know if you use deodorants and what your favourite brand is or if you’ve tried any of the ones I’ve listed above.

Lots of Love,
Dal

Favourites from the Boxes: February & March 2018

It’s been difficult using items from my subscription boxes because I really want to use up my Project Pan items. There are still items that I have been testing and using lately so I wanted to share them here. I enjoy sharing the items I love in my boxes and doing the mini-reviews here because I think it’s useful if anyone was debating getting a subscription box.

There are also some items I get that I don’t enjoy. It’s not as often but I might start sharing the Unloves from the boxes every once in a while too.

RealHer Blush Kit
Received in BoxyCharm December 2017

Favourites_FebMar_LBL (3)

When you first look at the pans you might think, oh boy some of those are bright, but they are a beautiful sheer wash of colour on the cheeks. I have been using the colours Fearless and Limitless the most in this palette and I think they are wonderful for my everyday makeup looks.

Favourites_FebMar_LBL (4)

The formula is really smooth so it doesn’t patch up on my skin. Fearless looks very shimmery in the pan but it actually applies matte with just a subtle sheen that makes my cheeks look highlighted.

Favourites_FebMar_LBL (9)

Limitless  looks like a really bright coral but it actually just enhances my natural cheek colour and appears natural on the skin. I’m super impressed with both of these. Although I have not used Unstoppable yet, I will give it a try when I want a more bronzy blush.

Crown Pro Blush Brush
Received in BoxyCharm February 2018

Favourites_FebMar_LBL (5)

I may have just received this brush but it immediately replaced my older angled blush brush. I use this all the time and I love that it’s dense at the base but fluffy at the top so  application of blush is very sheer and easy to build up.

Favourites_FebMar_LBL (6)

The brush is super soft and although I don’t love the thickness of the handle, it’s very light. I think it’s a very cute style with the all white and pink tips. This came in a trio and although I also enjoy the medium sized brush for concealer, this is my favourite of the three.

Professional Sebastian Shaper Plus Extra Hold Hairspray
Received in Topbox November 2017

Favourites_FebMar_LBL (7)

I didn’t use too much hairspray before but now that I’ve cut my hair I like to applying it whenever I style my hair. I love this hairspray, and it’s not like anything I’ve used before. It holds my style all day but my hair still feels really soft to the touch and it actually makes it super shiny.

Favourites_FebMar_LBL (8)

I wash my hair every few days and I like that it keeps my hair feeling good and not stiff at all. The nozzle is great because it disperses the product evenly and thiny through my hair. This was a small sample but I hope that it lasts me a while. I know I’m likely going to get this in a full size when it empties.

There you have it! Items I have been loving from my subscription boxes the last few months. Are there any items in your boxes you have been enjoying?

Winter Time Lip Care

Winter is brutal on my skin and can be painful for my lips as well because they tend to get really dry and cracked. Below are some items that help keep my lips hydrated.

One of the most important things I do to improve my overall skin hydration is drinking a lot of water. In the winter it’s mostly in the form of teas but regardless water is essential to keeping my lips hydrated.

Fresh Sugar Lip Polish

Lip Treatment Favourites_LBL (3)

You may have seen this item in my Project Pan for 2018 if not, you missed that post and can read it here! If I’m applying a lip treatment or balm I like to exfoliate first to remove the dead skin. The texture is gritty but the brown sugar granulas are really small and feel smooth.

Lip Treatment Favourites_LBL (4)

I enjoy this scrub because it has shea butter and jojoba oil to help condition the lips. It is a really comfortable scrub.

Dr Lipp Original Nipple Balm for Lips

Lip Treatment Favourites_LBL (5)

I’ve mentioned this product a few times on the blog and it’s amazing that even after so much time and trying other products I still enjoy this the best. The texture of this is like a thick petroleum jelly and it has no colour. It can feel pretty tacky so I prefer to use this at night. I also love this for my cuticles too.

Lip Treatment Favourites_LBL (6)

Their website has a multitude of uses for this balm. It has the funniest name but it’s a intensely hydrating gel that I can imagine it being really great for breastfeeding moms! I mean, that’s what it was originally for anyways. I think if you suffer from extremely dry lips this is a must.

Nova Scotia Fisherman Xtreme Lip Care

Lip Treatment Favourites_LBL (9)

Another product I’ve mentioned before on the blog numerous times is this lip balm from Nova Scotia Fisherman. I love this because it’s extremely hydrating but feels light on the lips.

Lip Treatment Favourites_LBL (10)

The product looks like it’s about to crumble apart because I use it so much. This lives on my vanity so in the morning I’ll put this on my lips to prep them while I put on my makeup.

Bite Beauty Agave Lip Balm

Lip Treatment Favourites_LBL (7)

How could I possibly have a list of favourite lip treatments without including this guy! This is such a nice light formula that I keep this in my purse and spread it on my lips whenever they start to feel dry throughout the day.

Lip Treatment Favourites_LBL (8)

It can feel slippery on the lips but I like that it almost feels like a barrier against the colder elements. I also have the lip mask and sugar scrub in the Agave line that I enjoy as well.

Lip Treatment Favourites_LBL (2)

I  love other lip products but I find that right now these four are perfect for my lips day to night. What are your favourite lip items for winter?

Lots of Love,
Dal

Favourites From the Boxes, November 2017

Did anyone do any Black Friday Shopping? I found myself on the Sephora website at 5:00AM going through their offerings for Black Friday but other than that I didn’t do any shopping. There were quite a few deals and the mall nearby my work was crazy busy. For me it just really feels like November is coming to an end and Christmas will be here before we know it! I’m soooo excited! Anyways, I wanted to share some subscription box favourites below.

Royal & Langnickle Brushes
Received in: BoxyCharm February 2017 and BoxyCharm August 2017

I am so impressed with these brushes. They are extremely soft and blend my eyeshadow perfectly.
20171125_123916I’ll start with the gold set of brushes which I use as shader brushes. This came together as part of the Omnia line. The natural hair large shader brush is great for putting eyeshadow all over my lid. I also really love the synthetic smudger brush for smoking out my eyeliner or blending out the lower lash line. These brushes look really fancy and are super lightweight.

The next brush I received from a later Boxycharm box is this synthetic crease brush which came in a set of three from the Moda Pro line.

20171125_123756
The other brushes are for the face and I really like them. This guy is becoming my go-to for blending out the crease. I like it because it’s really fluffy but the tip is tapered so it keeps the eyeshadow in the area I place it. I also really love the design of this barrel. It’s rubberized with a cushion style pattern that makes it super comfortable to grip.

Buff Her House of Exfoliation Vanilla Almond Crumbles
Received in: Ipsy Glam Bag September 2016

20171125_123626I use this whenever I want to turn my face wash into a scrub. I like that I can add in as much or as little I want of this so that I can either have a light exfoliation or a stronger scrub.
20171125_123644They are very large granules so if I do put too much it can be irritating to the skin but a little pinch like the amount I have in my hand below is perfect for me.
20171125_123700I love using this mostly with my foaming wash because then I get a little bubbly exfoliation action going. The scent is very natural too which I do enjoy.

Shu Uemura Essence Absolute Nourishing Protective Oil
Received in: Topbox July 2015

20171125_123529
I’ve had this for such a long time now but the oil has held up super well. I have so many hair oils that I rotate through so it’s not a surprise to me that I still have about half a bottle of this left.
20171125_123609While my hair is damp I put about two pumps of this into my hair. I then will let it air dry or I’ll heat style my hair. This leaves my hair feeling really soft and less frizzy. I think this is one of the best items I’ve received in a Topbox, ever!

These were the products I wanted to share this month from my various subscription boxes.

Are there any items you’re enjoying from your subscription boxes?

Lots of Love,
Dal

Favourites From the Boxes, October 2017

I have been loving the products I’m about to list below for a while now but somehow I never put them into a favourites post yet. These actually sit right on my vanity so that I don’t forget to use them each day. I’m really excited to be sharing them now!

Dr. Roebuck’s Polish 2 in 1 Facial Scrub
Received in: Topbox, February 2017
Favourites_October_LBL2
I was beyond excited when I received this Prive box in February. This brand is geared for those with dry skin (ME!). This Australian based brand was started by two physician parents who developed Dr. Roebuck’s PURE to treat Eczema in their identical twin daughters. Today, the daughters continue to expand the line. There are so many awesome products and I so look forward to trying it all.

Whenever my skin is feeling extra tight and dry, aka winter time skin, I reach for this and I swear I’m instantly hydrated. I love this polish because it does something that no other scrub does for my skin – it exfoliates away impurities AND it leaves me crazy moisturized! If you have dry skin, this brand is a must!

Bella Aura Skincare (Eye Contour, Antioxidant Booster, Night Cellular Repair)
Received in: Multiple Topbox Subscriptions
Favourites_October_LBL3
Another skincare line that I’m really loving, Bella Aura feels like it’s helped keep my skin feeling youthful. I really don’t need to use a lot, so these have actually lasted me most of the year. Now, I change up my skincare pretty often, but I always come back to these little guys at least once a week. I use them all both day and night. I love that through Topbox, I’ve had a chance to try this line altogether to get a feel for how well it works, and man does it work wonders.

Ciate London Bamboo Bronzer in Palm Island
Received in: Ipsy Glam Bag, April 2017

I have a few bronzers in my makeup case, but lately, I’ve been really gravitating towards this one. This claims to have oil-controlling properties which should make me fear it might dry out my skin but luckily it doesn’t do that.

The packaging is really tiny which makes it hard to pick up with a big fluffy brush like I would like but if I want my bronzer to double as a contour I will use this. It’s slightly cooler than a lot of my other bronzers so it works really well on my neutral skin tone. It’s a very soft and fine formula which makes it easy to blend into my skin.
Favourites_October_LBL1Those are the products I’ve been loving from my boxes for a while now that I’m really happy to share. What are some products you’ve been enjoying from your subscription boxes? Have you tried any of the items I’ve listed above?

Lots of Love,
Dal

Favourites From the Boxes, September 2017

I haven’t done a post like this in some time but there have been some really awesome products I’ve received from my subscription boxes in the last few months that I really want to share. Currently, I’m subscribed to Topbox and Boxycharm and have been loving the items below.

IBY Beauty Beauty Highlight & Contour
Received in: BoxyCharm, May 2017
20170827_134432_resized
This palette is such a staple product for me. I use every shade one way or another for my face and eyes. I don’t use contour palettes too often but ever since receiving this I find that I reach for it on a weekly basis. The powders are well milled and soft. They blend so easily onto the skin and sit really well on top of foundation.
20170827_134411_resized
I like to contour and highlight with this for full makeup looks, but I will also use the shades as eye shadow when I want to create every day looks. I love the mix of cool and warm tones. This palette came with me on vacation and it was so perfect for whenever I needed powder.

Blinc Electric Eyes Palette
Received in: BoxyCharm, July 2017
20170827_134537_resized
I knew when I went to Las Vegas I would take this palette with me for fun, going out night looks. I’m blow away by how intense the colours are even when used dry. They blend so well too. I love using them as pops of shimmer on the eyes and have even put Sphene on my cheeks as an intense highlight. I get so many compliments whenever I wear the shades from this palette.
20170827_134711_resized
When I traveled to the Mediterranean I forgot this palette at home and I was very upset that I didn’t have it with me. That’s just how much I quickly fell in love with this product.

Clarins Instant Light Lip Comfort Oil in 02 Raspberry
Received in: Topbox, June 2017
20170827_134728_resized
I don’t wear a lot of products on my lips. Of course, I do love rocking a bold lipstick from time to time but my everyday look actually doesn’t include any lip items. I mostly just stick to balms or light glosses so I was beyond excited when I got this in my Topbox.
20170827_134754_resized
After using it once, I immediately threw it it in my purse with my Bite Beauty Agave Lip Balm. I love the shape of the applicator because it’s flat on two sides which makes it easy to the apply. I thought originally that this would be tinted but it’s not so much.
20170827_134917_resized
I do love the gloss effect it gives the lips without actually feeling really heavy and sticky on the lips. It’s also very nourishing. I absolutely love it for my lips.

There are many items that I’ve loved from my boxes in the last few months and I’m so happy that I’ve been introduced to products and brands I might not have tried before.

Do you subcribe to any subcription boxes? What are the items you’ve been loving from them?

Lots of Love,
Dal
