Bye Bye Empties, January 2020

I took a break from my Instagram during January. It was great to take a small step back from social media and focus on myself. I feel like with the weather (which is really grey and snowy) and with the new year, I felt like I just wanted a refresh. After a large December empties and declutter, January had much less used up items.

Here’s what I used up!

Empties_January2020_LBL (4)

Nivea MicellAIR Skin Breathe Micellar Water. This was gentle and effective, removing my mascara and eyeliner with ease. As well as using micellar water to remove my makeup at the end of the day,  I used it in the mornings to rinse my face before I applied makeup. This worked super well. I would repurchase this.

Caudalie Grape Water. This mist lasts forever!!!! I have had this bottle for a couple years and over that time I’ve been making an effort to use it every day. I’ve finally used it up! The mist is very fine and it disperses evenly on the skin. I would use this after washing my face, before applying serum or moisturizer. I also used it on top of makeup as a re-hydrating, finishing spray. Some people swear by this product and say that it helps hydrate their skin. I personally thought it was OK. It wasn’t super hydrating and I would have to follow-up with moisturizer if I was going to keep my skin from feeling extremely dry. It just left my skin feeling wet. I’ve used face mists that work a lot better than this and cost me a lot less too. I won’t be repurchasing this.

Body Care

Empties_January2020_LBL (5)

Being by Sanctuary Spa Hibiscus & Coconut Water Shower Burst. I am obsessed with shower gels and soap bars. I think of all the bath items, these are things I get most excited about. I mean, if you got me a basket full of Bath & Body Works shower gels I would be the happiest person! I enjoyed that this was a foaming wash. The scent is really fruity which is not my favourite. I also like my shower gel to double as bubble bath and this, unfortunately, does not. I won’t be repurchasing this.

Hair Care

Empties_January2020_LBL (3)

Head & Shoulders Shampoo Deep Moisture. Another Head & Shoulders shampoo in the empties bin! It’s my favourite shampoo and if you’ve been here before you know every few months I use one up! I already have one open and would repurchase.

There you have it, my little collection of empties for January. I am happy that at least I used up items that were large bottle sizes. After December and my big empties and declutter post, there wasn’t much left to use up in January.

What items did you use up in January?

Lots of Love,

Unboxing Topbox, June 2018

This last week has been so busy! My office moved locations and over the weekend I spent all of my time managing that. As the week progressed I was focused on ensuring the transistion to the new space went smoothly and people were happy. It’s left no time for me to really focus too much on the blog.

I’m back now, but I’m going to keep today’s post really short and sweet and share what I received in my Topbox. I have some reviews coming up which I’m excited to share and maybe some other fun personal items too!

Price: $12.00 CAD (plus tax, free shipping) 4 items.

Topbox is a Canadian monthly beauty subscription service. Each month you have the option of getting a surprise box or to swap it for a prive box where all the products are from one brand or fall within a theme and you know what they are.

This month I opted for the Athleisure Derm box and I got it! These are gym ready kits that you can find at Shoppers Drug Mart that contain products designed to work with an active lifestyle. I think it’s great because whether you enjoy products made for pre and post gym care or know someone who does, it’s fun to pick up a set that you can throw into your gym bag!

Prices are in CAD

Avene Trixera Nutri-Fluid Cleanser
Full Size: $29.00 (400 ml), Deluxe Size: $7.25 (100 ml)

You can use this for the face and body making it a great cleanser for after the gym. This is designed for dry to very dry sensistive skin. It hardly has a scent which I really like. I would use a product like this for vacation.

Avene Thermal Spring Water
Mini Size: $9.80 (50 ml)

According to the description, this is good to sooth and cleanse the skin before exercising and cools and refreshes during your exercise and after. This sounds good for those hot summer days when you want to cool and refresh your skin as well.

Klorane Dry Shampoo with Oat Milk
Full Size: $15.50 (150 ml), Sample Size: $5.17 (50 ml)

This is probably a staple for me for when I work out because I love using dry shampoo to refresh my hair afterwards. This is gentle on the hair because of the addition of oat milk and helps to volumize and add texture to the hair using absorbing micronized powders.

Elancyl Slim Design Night
Full Size: $60.00 (200 ml), Sample Size: $2.10 (7 ml)

This little packet reduces the look of dimples and cellulite. I’m not sure how much you are supposed to apply every night but I’m hoping I might get about 2-3 nights worth of product in here if I’m being sparing with the product. We will see but I’m not sure I’ll see any major changes.

My Thoughts

I wanted this box and I’m really happy I got it. I mostly wanted it for the first three items I mentioned so I’m not too bothered that the Elancly cream is in a tiny packet. Total Value of my box;  $24.32

Did you get Topbox this month? Have you tried any of the items mentioned above? Let me know your thoughts!

Lots of love,

Bye Bye Empties, May 2017

Before we get too far into June I figured I better get to all my empties for May. I feel like this I finished up a lot of products that I’ve been wanting to finish so I’m really excited to share them now!

May Empties 2017_LBL (9)

Let’s start off with Algenist Purifying & Replishing Cleanser which I finished up mid month. I originally reviewed it here and at that time I said I wouldn’t repurchase this. Since then I’ve had a complete change of heart because I grew to love this cleanser because it’s just so  good at removing my makeup and leaving my skin feeling clean. Plus it lasted me so long even with regular, daily use.

I have two little sample products that I finished this month as well.
May Empties 2017_LBL (10)The first is the GlamGlow Thirstycleanse Daily Hydrating Cleanser which I really enjoyed. I used this about 4 times before the sample ran out. It’s not a product I’d use everyday though so I’ll probably not purchase a full size but I would definitely get another sample.
May Empties 2017_LBL (11)The next item is my Dr.Lipp Nipple Balm. I love this balm! I got it in my Birchbox and then did a review of it here. I used this on my lips and cuticles the most but I would also occasionally use it when my legs, hands or face felt a little extra dry as spot treatment. Luckily I purchased a full size from the Birchbox store before they stopped servicing Canada.

Body Care

May Empties 2017_LBL (6)
An item I was really happy to have finish is the St. Ives Fresh Hydration Lotion. I thought I’d really like a spray moisturizer but as someone who needs a little more hydration I realized pretty quickly that I prefer creams instead. I did enjoy this as the weather got warmer because it was really light. I also really loved the smell; super tropical and delicious.

Once I finish up more body washes I have laying around my home I’m heading straight to L’Occitane to pick up more of the Almond Shower Oil. I did a review of this product here and I’m almost finished the Almond Supple Skin Oil as well.

I didn’t finish my PennyLane Pink Grapefruit Deodorant but it’s crumbled so badly that I can’t use it anymore. That was my fault because at first I think I might have pushed up too much product causing it to crack.
May Empties 2017It’s unfortunate because I love this smell. It was strong when I first applied it but it did diminish throughout the day and left me feeling fresh. I have other deodorants I’m using right now but I will probably repurchase this.

Hair Care

May Empties 2017_LBL (3)
Although I have dry hair, I always seem to finish up my shampoos before conditioners. I really enjoy the Dove Shampoo line. It’s really nice for dry, frizzy hair like mine making it really easy to style afterwards. The Nourishing Oil Care Shampoo is definitely one I will be picking up again.

If I could chose a high-end Shampoo and Conditioner it will most likely be Alterna’s Caviar Repair Instant Recovery Duo. This is amazing for hair like mine. I got this with my Sephora points with other items from their line.
May Empties 2017_LBL (4)If I’m leaving my hair to dry naturally I’m likely to use the shampoo and conditioner as well as the Caviar CC Cream. These three together made my hair more manageable. It’s really pricey, so I might be leaving this for Christmas and Birthday ideas 😉

What did you finish up in May?

Lots of Love,

Sephora Haul: Because I have no self-control!!

I started off the year telling myself that I wasn’t going to buy any more beauty items until at least June. Well….that went out the window  pretty quickly!

I wish I had better restraint but when I saw the Peter Thomas Roth skincare set I really wanted to get it! So, I allowed myself this one purchase and said I couldn’t buy one more thing from Sephora until their next VIB Sale.

I picked up The Peter Thomas Roth Skin Saver kit because it was on sale and it looked to be good for cleansing, hydrating and protecting the skin. I was mostly looking for a cleanser and moisturizer and figured instead of grabbing each item individually I would just pick up the set as a way to try out the whole brand. Most items had a 4 star+ rating on Sephora (except the moisturizer which only got 3).

Inside the kit;

  • Anti-Aging Cleansing Gel (125 mL)
  • Max Sheer All Day Moisture Defense Lotion with SPF 30 (30 mL)
  • Cucumber Gel Mask (50 mL)
  • Firm Peeling Gel (15 mL)
  • 24K Gold Hydra-Gel Eye Patches (1 Pair)

sephora-feb-haul-2017-2Next, I picked up Sephora’s Full Action Extreme Effect Mascara in brown. I usually get Benefit’s Roller Lash but I didn’t want to spend $30 on a new mascara. This claims to thicken the lashes in one stroke. I’m not super picky about mascara as long as it’s not clumpy.

Then I picked up this Verb Ghost Oil because I’m always on the hunt for oils and creams to tame my frizzy hair. This is especially true since lately I’ve been wearing my hair naturally (no heat styling). This had a 4.5 star rating so I thought it was worth a try. I’ve used it a few times now so I can say that I’m really enjoying it. Compared to my Moroccanoil it feels a lot lighter in texture so I feel like it spreads into my hair easier. Also, I love the light, clean scent.

sephora-feb-haul-2017-4The best part of my order was picking up a few deluxe free samples. Whenever I shop online I ensure that I check out the page for deluxe samples. If you’ve never taken advantage of this, you are surely missing out, check here because Sephora is always updating the page with sample codes.

At the time I was shopping they were offering nude lip samples and the Bite Beauty Multistick in Almond was the option I chose. I haven’t heard many people talk about them but they do have a high star rating so I said I might as well give this a try. I do like the darker shade which will look good as a lipstick or an eye shadow.

For those who don’t know February is my birthday month so I also grabbed my Birthday Gift. They were offering either Caudalie skincare products or Tarte’s blush and lip gloss set. I have way too many Caudalie products that I use and love so I thought I’d pick up something different.

Lastly, for 100 points I grabbed the Two Faced Sweet Peach Creamy Peach oil in Pure Peach. This lip gloss is infused with peach oil, coconut oil and vitamin E. I have used this a few times and it smells of candy peaches. It also tastes like peaches but I’m not a fan of it. I do like how hydrating it feels. I think it’s very comfortable on the lips.

Well, there you have it. My little Sephora Haul. Have you been shopping on Sephora lately? What’s on your wishlist? Have you tried any of the items I mentioned above? I want to know what you think.

Lots of Luv,

Favourites From the Boxes, October 2016

I keep a box of samples that I have received from my monthly subscriptions services because as much as I would like to use them I sometimes can’t keep up (I share a lot of items with my family and friends or donate them). From the items I do use I have some hits and some misses. I’ll just include hits this time because I really want to give the misses another chance!

Keratin Protein Mask, Birchbox December 2015faves-from-the-box-1I received a lot of hair masks during the winter of 2015/2016 and so far I’ve used up this one. I actually finished this off about 2 months ago but was holding on to this until I had more items to include in this post. I was able to use this 3 times as a pre-wash mask and each time it left my hair feeling a bit fuller than just using shampoo and conditioner alone. Unlike other creamy masks, this had a gel-like consistency and smelled a bit like VapoRub. Regardless, it helped keep my ends healthy until I decided to chop them off.

Bliss Triple Oxygen Radiant Protection Energizing Serum, Topbox June 2016faves-from-the-box-3This came in my Bliss Prive box that I was really excited about because I love this brand. There were many great products here but I thought I would mention the Radiant Protection Energizing Serum here. This golden serum is my go to recently before I moisturize. I like to concentrate this mostly around my eyes and my forehead. I have noticed the skin under my eyes to appear a bit brighter and tighter. Surprisingly, I’ve gotten a lot of use out of this and it’s still about 1/4 full.

The Face Shop Collagen Pomegranate Pack, Topbox May 2016faves-from-the-box-2This is a night cream but I do use it in the morning sometimes too because it’s super hydrating. The formula is thin so it easily spreads over my face. Sometimes I find that with moisturizers I have to apply more than one layer because my skin might still feel dry but I haven’t needed to with this which is awesome! Plus it claims to help improve skin elasticity which I am all for!

Have you tried any of these products? Any subscription box favourites you have?

Review: Tarte Amazonian Clay BB Tinted Moisturizer

$47.00 CAD from Sephora

What it Claims:

Infused with skin-balancing Amazonian clay and chamomile, vitamins A, C, and E, and sodium hyaluronate, this multitasking, tinted moisturizer hydrates, brightens, treats, and protects skin from UV rays and free radical damage with SPF 20. (Sephora)

I love the added skin benefits in this product (which is what I love about BB Creams in general).fotor_147337897952238_resized

I really like this simple packaging. It’s just a squeeze tube for quick application. I also really like the cord cap, just a little something extra and cute.fotor_147337905918310_resizedApplication & Coverage:

I preferred applying this with my fingers as I would a moisturizer. The coverage is barely-there which you can build to light coverage. It was perfect for “no-makeup” days because it would even out my skin tone without making me look like I had anything on and I liked the added SPF.

At first, I worried that tint I got was a bit too dark but light-medium ended up being good for me especially since it blends in more sheer (plus with a tan in the summer it matched me well).

Although I like this for every day there are a few downsides to this tint and one is that there are specks of sparkle in the formula. I only notice this when I’m in direct sunlight or under really bright lights so for me I can get away with wearing this in the office or at home. However, I would definitely not wear this outside as I’m afraid the sparkles would be more noticeable which is a shame because the added SPF should make it perfect for outdoors. I think this was meant to give that “brightening” effect as the claim says but in the wrong way. The other thing I find is that my skin feels a bit more oily at first application, and I need to add a bit of powder to make it feel more matte. Since I have normal-dry skin in the summer and I feel like it’s bearable but I’m not sure how well it may work for someone with combination skin.fotor_147337913714990What I like:

  • Feels lightweight
  • Easy application
  • Sheer coverage
  • Built-in SPF

What I don’t like:

  • Feels a bit oily at first
  • Major disco vibes thanks to the sparkle (haha)

My thoughts

If you like BB Creams, this one is alright, but I have others that I much prefer. It’s a bit pricey and although I like all the added benefits of this formula, the sparkle and oily feeling get really annoying. I’ll use this product up, but I don’t think I will be repurchasing.

Have you tried Tarte’s Amazonian Clay BB Cream? What are your thoughts? Have any other BB Cream Favourites?

Lots of Love,

L’Occitane Almond Collection

I have an obsession with body wash. I find myself gravitating towards them in stores and have a huge collection of un-opened bottles. AND don’t get me started on the damage I do to my wallet during Bath & Body Works Semi-Annual Sale!! Naturally for me, I always pick up a new one to try.

L’Occitane En Provence is an overall great brand for body, skincare and even home items and I was originally a big fan of their hand creams (another product I seem to have way too much of). The first time I tried this Almond Body Line was in a gift set that I received at Christmas, I liked it so much I went out and bought another set after it finished. Almond Oil helps moisturize, firm and smooth the skin and I’m all about it. I’ve been using the Almond Shower Oil & Almond Supple Skin Oil for a few months now and wanted to share my review.Fotor_147147067706672Almond Shower Oil

First off, this smells incredible. I didn’t know Almond Oil could smell so delicious. It’s not an overwhelming scent for me, but it is sweet so it may not be to everyone’s liking. When in contact with water, the oil produces a slight foam to cleanse the body. It leaves my skin feeling incredibly soft and hydrated. You can also use this as a shaving base which I’ve done instead of grabbing a shaving cream. What I really love about this is that my skin does not feel greasy afterwards, just really clean and more moisturized.

I’ve mentioned before that I have really dry skin, especially my legs, sometimes they get really itchy and irritating so having a product like this really calms my skin and leaves it feeling hydrated. With daily use, I’ve noticed an improvement in my skins texture. It looks and feels a lot less dry.Fotor_147147058191382Almond Supple Skin Oil

Again, this smells so wonderful to me. I wanted to pick up this oil because I thought it would be really similar to my Neutrogena Sesame Body Oil (which is amazing BTW – review coming soon!). It feels good on the skin but there were some things I did not like about this product.

Let’s start off with the spray nozzle. I thought that this would mist onto my skin but instead it just squirted out. Afterwards I massaged it into my skin, but I needed some time for it to absorb before I put on clothes so that I didn’t stain them with oil. It felt a bit thicker than what I would have liked so you need to be careful with how much you use because a little goes a long way, and too much makes you a greasy mess. My first time using this I did about 3 sprays on each leg and 2 on each arm and blended it in. I found that left me feeling a bit over oiled so the next time I sprayed onto my hand and massaged it in, adding more oil as I needed and it was much better.

There are some really amazing things about this oil. For one, my skin feels really, really hydrated and smooth for a few days after using this which is really nice. Most times I add a moisturizer and within a few hours my skin is super dry. This is awesome post-shave in combination with my Almond Body Oil. I also like adding a few drops of this in my bath when I feel like having an at-home spa. I’ve also started using this directly on my cuticles to moisturize them. So I’ve found some multi-purpose uses for this which is great!

I really enjoy this line. If you have really dry skin, I’d suggest giving the Almond Shower Oil a try. The Almond Supple Skin Oil is good but maybe next time I’ll try the body milk and see how well it works for me. There is also a hand cream in the Almond scent that I am picking up for sure.

Have you tried this? What are your favourite products from L’Occitane?

Lots of Love,

Review: Sephora Mud Mask Purifying & Mattifying

Oh clay and mud masks, how I adore them. I’ve tried another new one recently from Sephora. Even though I have dry skin and don’t suffer from many blemishes, I really love deep cleaning my skin every other week or so. With the humidity and hot weather lately, I love using masks more because my skin feels a bit more gross. Don’t get me wrong though, I love summer!

If you’re curious in any other mask reviews, see them here;

Coalion Premium Hot & Cold Pore Pack Duo

Elizavecca Milky Piggy Carbonated Bubble Clay Mask

Price: $25.00 CAD. This is pricey but not the most I’ve spent on a mask.Fotor_147059236063496_resized

What it claims to do:

  • Cleanses and purifies pores
  • Absorbs excess sebum (oily secretions)
  • Reduces the appearance of blemishes without over drying

Active Ingredients:

  • Zinc and Copper to purify
  • White Clay to soften

The consistency is really thick and chunky, very mud like which is pretty fun. I used this for the first time all over my face. I kinda kicked myself because I don’t have impurities all over my face and I was afraid it would really dry out my skin. It has a really nice cooling affect which feels so good in the hot months. As this dries it goes white and crackles a bit. Surprisingly for me, even though this looked like it was going to over dry my skin it did not at all. It actually made my skin feel hydrated afterwards. I liked that this didn’t over dry my skin. Fotor_147059190205432Once the mask completely dried I washed it off. My skin felt really clean and super soft. I can’t say if it absorbed any excess oil but my pores appeared a bit smaller. I really like how my skin felt and looked after using this mask.

Any masks that you’ve been enjoying lately?

Lots of Love,

Skincare Fave: Nova Scotia Fisherman

I fell in love with this brand about a year ago when I was introduced to the rescue balm  in my Topbox. It helps relieve irritated skin so I use it on my dry skin patches, cuticles and lips (see it here). Ever since then, anything I’ve tried has been a hit in my books. I raved about Nova Scotia Fisherman on’s podcast when discussing my top 3 favourite brands with Cat.

What makes these products so great? I think it is because it’s a 100% Natural Body care line infused with Nova Scotia Kelp (yes! KELP!) which has beta-carotine and antioxidants.

Our bodies convert beta-carotene into Vitamin A which is great for the skin. Antioxidants limit the production of free radicals which can damage the skin.

What awesome things does kelp do? Well….

  • it restores mositure levels
  • it stimulates the skin’s ability to heal
  • it revitalizes and firms skin
  • and much more!

Nova Scotia Fisherman 3Recently I’ve been in love with the Sea Salt Soap*. It smells absolutely delicious. I have a sample and full size of the soap bar and I love how the shower smells whenever I use it. These soaps remind me of my grandfather because he actually used to make soaps himself. The process wasn’t simple but we would end up with these beautiful handmade soaps that were great for the skin and made with love. That’s who the Nova Scotia Fisherman team reminds me of, my family, and rightfully so because this is a family and friend owned business.

Nova Scotia Fisherman 2I have dry skin and I like when a product really works for me. That’s how I feel about the lip balms. I especially love the Fisher-Mint* (ha! such a cute name!), not only does it nourish my lips, but the added smell of mint makes mouth smell a bit fresher too. The sea  salt and caramel xtreme lip care balm just smells like a yummy butterscotch. I reviewed this before in my favourite from the boxes and I’m still loving it, the lip balm minnow is always in my purse.

Another reason Nova Scotia Fisherman is a favourite of mine is because they are environmentally conscious donating a portion of the sale of each item to the Nature Conservancy of Canada to protect our plants and wildlife.

I love how nourished my skin feels once I use these products, it must be the ingredients and how well they work for me. Currently I’ve only been able to find products on their website, but I do look forward to trying more from them. I’ve been eyeing the hand and body cream and probably going to try those next.

Have you ever tried anything from this brand? What are your skincare faves?

Lots of Love,

*I was graciously gifted these products from Nova Scotia Fisherman. My thoughts and reviews of this brand are my own and 100% honest.

Review: Algenist Purifying & Replishing Cleanser

Having dry skin, I need to be careful with the types of cleansers that I use so I don’t irritate my skin. I also like cleansers that provide a deep clean. I have been using the Alengist Purifying & Replenishing Cleanser for the past few weeks wanted to share my thoughts.

What this claims to do:

  • Replenishes moisture, softens, and balances skin while removing dirt and makeup and diminishing the appearance of pores
  • Daily cleanser that effectively removes makeup and purifies the skin
  • Skin feels nourished, refreshed, and supple after use

Active Ingredients:

  • Chamomile and Cucumber extract: Soothe skin.
  • Microalgae Oil: Replenishes essential moisture and nourishes.
  • Vitamin B: Conditions and moisturises.

Price: $35.00 at Sephora. This is quite pricey for me. I will point out that it is an 8 oz bottle and based on my usage I can see it lasting me a while.

Packaging: I really love that this a pump. I like its simple design as well, the bottle looks like something you would get prescribed, I guess this gives it a medical-grade feel.AL2

Performance: I use about 1/2 to one pump each time I wash my face. I think it’s enough to build a nice lather. It is not too bubbly but feels very creamy when I work it into my skin. My skin feels really clean right after I wash it, but unlike other cleansers, it doesn’t feel like a lot my natural oils have been washed off too. With certain cleansers, my skin can feel extremely dry afterwards and I have to put cream on immediately so that my face doesn’t feel tight and dehydrated.

I’ve been using this both morning and night for about two weeks and I have noticed that my skin feels and looks really clear. I don’t notice my pores either. Note that I have also been more diligent with toner lately so it could be because of that too. I love how well this removes my makeup. It washes everything away so I’m not left with any makeup residue. It’s even tough enough to remove Benefit’s They’re Real Liner and my waterproof mascaras and doesn’t irritate my eyes!

My Thoughts: Although I really like this, I don’t think that I will be repurchasing it once I’ve finished my bottle. There are other facial cleansers that I like a lot more than this (review coming soon) that cost a lot less.

Have you tried anything from the Algenist Line? What is your favourite facial cleanser?

Lots of Luv,
