Sephora VIB Sale Haul, a little bit of gifting for myself!

For any makeup/beauty enthusiasts Sephora’s VIB Sale is always an exciting time, especially November because that when they offer 20% to VIB and VIB Rouge and 15% to Beauty Insiders. I take the opportunity to purchase holiday and birthday gifts for family and of course, I do purchase items for myself. Mostly, I replenished items I love.

Sephora VIB Sale Haul2

I’m going to start with L’Occitane’s Almond Shower Gel which I absolutely love! I did a full review of this which you can read here. This is perfect for me because I have dry skin. I purchased the largest bottle available because I enjoy it that much!

Sephora VIB Sale Haul3

I have a few glittery shadows that I feel need a glitter glue so I picked up the  Too Faced Glitter Glue because it has a lot of good reviews. I’m looking forward to using this to create glitter looks for the holidays!

Sephora VIB Sale Haul5

I am a huge fan of Fresh skincare, mostly their lip balms. They are pricey so I always  pick up sets and with the 20% off it’s a really good buy in my opinion. This is the Fresh Glow n’Go set. I thought this would be packaged all together like most sets are but this wasn’t. I guess it doesn’t really matter but I like them boxed together if I wanted to give something like this as a gift. I’m looking forward to trying the face cream and mask!

Sephora VIB Sale Haul6

I’ve complained a few times about my brows on the blog so I thought it would be good to pick up the Tweezerman Brow Shaping Scissors & Brush to help tame them.

Sephora VIB Sale Haul7

Lastly, I splurged and got the Too Faced Just Peachy Mattes palette. I enjoy the Peach palette which you can read about here. When I saw that the reviews were super positive for this palette I thought, why not!

Sephora VIB Sale Haul9

This purchase put me at the VIB Rouge tier and I received the Sephora Pro 56.5 brush. I actually own this in the full size and I like it for applying foundation. I also picked up samples of Fresh’s Seaberry Skin Nutrition booster and two hair oils; one is Bumble and bumble. Hairdresser’s invisible oil and the other is 100 proof treatment oil.

That’s all I ordered from Sephora for myself. Did you purchase anything during Sephora’s VIB Sale?

Favourites From the Boxes, October 2017

I have been loving the products I’m about to list below for a while now but somehow I never put them into a favourites post yet. These actually sit right on my vanity so that I don’t forget to use them each day. I’m really excited to be sharing them now!

Dr. Roebuck’s Polish 2 in 1 Facial Scrub
Received in: Topbox, February 2017
Favourites_October_LBL2
I was beyond excited when I received this Prive box in February. This brand is geared for those with dry skin (ME!). This Australian based brand was started by two physician parents who developed Dr. Roebuck’s PURE to treat Eczema in their identical twin daughters. Today, the daughters continue to expand the line. There are so many awesome products and I so look forward to trying it all.

Whenever my skin is feeling extra tight and dry, aka winter time skin, I reach for this and I swear I’m instantly hydrated. I love this polish because it does something that no other scrub does for my skin – it exfoliates away impurities AND it leaves me crazy moisturized! If you have dry skin, this brand is a must!

Bella Aura Skincare (Eye Contour, Antioxidant Booster, Night Cellular Repair)
Received in: Multiple Topbox Subscriptions
Favourites_October_LBL3
Another skincare line that I’m really loving, Bella Aura feels like it’s helped keep my skin feeling youthful. I really don’t need to use a lot, so these have actually lasted me most of the year. Now, I change up my skincare pretty often, but I always come back to these little guys at least once a week. I use them all both day and night. I love that through Topbox, I’ve had a chance to try this line altogether to get a feel for how well it works, and man does it work wonders.

Ciate London Bamboo Bronzer in Palm Island
Received in: Ipsy Glam Bag, April 2017

I have a few bronzers in my makeup case, but lately, I’ve been really gravitating towards this one. This claims to have oil-controlling properties which should make me fear it might dry out my skin but luckily it doesn’t do that.

The packaging is really tiny which makes it hard to pick up with a big fluffy brush like I would like but if I want my bronzer to double as a contour I will use this. It’s slightly cooler than a lot of my other bronzers so it works really well on my neutral skin tone. It’s a very soft and fine formula which makes it easy to blend into my skin.
Favourites_October_LBL1Those are the products I’ve been loving from my boxes for a while now that I’m really happy to share. What are some products you’ve been enjoying from your subscription boxes? Have you tried any of the items I’ve listed above?

Review; NYX Cosmetics Jumbo Eye Pencil

A month ago I shared a haul from my first online purchase on the NYX Cosmetics website and today I’m sharing my thoughts on the two Jumbo Eye Pencils I purchased. If you’re interested to see the other items I got, you can read about them here. I figured these pencils would be great for quick eyeshadow or liner application, and to use as a base for my eyeshadow.

What it is
An eye liner that also doubles as an eye shadow. Made with a blend of mineral oil and powder. (nyxcosmetics.ca)
Review_NYX_LBL3
Price
$6.00 CAD each. Part of the reason I was drawn to these eye pencils was because it is was affordable.

Packaging
I like the pencil style becuase it makes for easy application. The clear cap allows me to see the colour I’m picking up. One downfall to this packaging is that unlike what I first thought it’s not a twist up but instead it requires a jumbo sharpner. I luckily have a sharpener for the pencils but I really don’t like sharpening my makeup pencils because I feel I waste product.
Review_NYX_LBL4Colours
I purchased 609 French Fries which is a pretty bronze (the website describes it as a golden olive but it’s no where close to being olive). The second shade is 611 Yogurt which is a rosey shade. It has a pink pearl sheen (again, the website describes this as pearly light brown, but its not brown). There are 12 shades all together in this range and they all seem to be very muted everyday shades minus the blue and green shade which appear bright.
Review_NYX_LBL6I find the colours I have fantastic for everyday. It gives me a pearly and bright eye look. I wear Yogurt all over the lid and French Fries on the outter half to define. The look is a very simple one but great for when I’m looking for something that will go with whatever I’m wearing.

Application & Wear
These are super creamy pencils. The apply so easily without tugging on my eyelids. They don’t last too long on the lids. I find that at about the 5 hour mark it starts to crease on my eyelids. If I put a base down then they don’t do that and will last longer.

The Breakdown

Pros

  • Affordable
  • Creamy & blendable
  • Easy application

Cons

  • Need to be sharpened
  • not long wearing

My Thoughts
I probably won’t pick up more of these pencils but that doesn’t mean that I don’t like the ones I currently have. I like the formula and think it’s great for when I want a quick eyeshadow look. I just think the colours I have now are the ones I would wear most. Plus I have a lot of powder eyeshadow to get through too!

What are your thoughts? Would you pick up these jumbo eye pencils?

Lots of Love,
Dal

One Look, One Week Reviews; Tarte Sheer Passion Blush & Color Splash Hydrating Lipstick

To complete this week of reviews I will be sharing my thoughts on the blush and lipstick I used in my look. If you want to see the complete look I created head here to read Monday’s post.

Let’s start off with cheeks, shall we?

I purchased Tarte’s Sheer Passion back in January with other Tarte items such as the shape tape. The best part about it is it was on sale and I got an extra 30% off. That brought the total of this gem to $7.00 CAD!

Full Face Review_LBL (13)

This is a really pretty pinky-red stain that I prefer to apply with my fingers. A little goes a long way so I like to apply this lightly with my fingers and then build up the intensity afterward by adding more if needed. Because I was wearing a darker lip I chose in my look to keep the cheeks sheer.

This blush does have Tarte’s famous maracuja oil to make this a hydrating blush which works for me and my dry skin. This also looks good with my skin tone because it enhances my natural blush. I love this during the Fall and Winter time because the colour is very light.Tarte Sheer Passion blush

I love the applicator style of this blush because it’s liquid so the twist style applicator dispenses a small amount of product at a time.

Full Face Review_LBL (14)

I like to dot this on my cheek and then blend it out using my fingers. This surprisingly lasts long on me. It’s a perfect blush whether I wear makeup or on no makeup days when I just want to look alive.

The last item I wanted to review as part of this series and the last item I put on my face actually is Tarte’s Color Splash Hydrating Lipstick in Set Sail. I purchased this back in my April shopping haul.

Full Face Review_LBL (16)

This is a pretty dark nude. I like how it really makes the look I created feel like Fall. This is described as a hydrating 24hr formula that provides full coverage.

Full Face Review_LBL (17)

I do find this formula very hydrating and comfortable to wear. It appears matte which is really nice too. I don’t always wear lipstick so when a formula is a lightweight like this one I really appreciate it because it doesn’t feel like I’m wearing lipstick.

Full Face Review_LBL (18)

It provides full coverage so one swipe is all it takes to create an intense lip. The only downside is that this does not last 24hr. I found after about 4 hours the colour started to fade and I needed to reapply. It’s not something I really mind because if I’m wearing a lipstick I will carry it with me to touch up throughout the day.

I really love these two items and I find I actually wear them more often than not in my everyday makeup routine.

Have you tried any of these items? What are your favourite blushes or lipsticks?

That rounds up my one look, one week of reviews!

Lots of Love,
Dal

September Shopping, Inglot Haul

Last week I shared my haul of NYX Cosmetics items I purchased over the Labour Day long weekend. Well, that wasn’t the only store I shopped at! Inglot was offering a pretty good deal on their website at the time.
Inglot Haul_LBL (2)If you spent $69 you got a $25 online gift card and if you spent $100 you got $50 online gift card. I used this opportunity to shop for some brushes.

10S Small Blending Brush
Inglot Haul_LBL (4)

I really wanted a small blending brush and this is exactly what I was looking for. I’ve used it a few times and think it’s great for detail work in the outer crease.

4SS Large Blending Brush
Inglot Haul_LBL (5)

I thought this brush was going to be a bit smaller than it actually is. I haven’t used it yet, but I think it will be great for blending colour out around the eyes. It could also be used as a highlighting brush

26P Eye shadow Brush
Inglot Haul_LBL (7)

I love little shadow brushes to pack colour over the lid. I think it’s useful  if you want to create a sharp line on the lid for cut crease looks. I have the 20P and this is very similar to that. I didn’t realize that the handle would be so tiny but It actually makes it easier to hold and be more precise.

45S Eye shadow Glitter Brush
Inglot Haul_LBL (6)

This brush was actually sent to me by accident instead of the 4SS in my original order. I think because the names are similar they may have shipped it by accident. Their customer service did replace it and I go in depth with the service below. This is meant to pick up glitter/shimmer shadows to place on the eyes. I guess you’d use this instead of your fingers if you were working on clients or if you just preferred to use a brush. I think it’s a neat brush, but I wouldn’t have picked it up myself.

Milk and Tonic Makeup Remover Wipes
Inglot Haul_LBL (8)

I needed a small item to make the $69 minimum to get the gift card so I picked this up. It’s actually about the same cost as many drugstore wipes which I’m impressed with. I hope it works well, but I love keeping makeup remover wipes on hand after taking photos for swatches and if it’s really good I will use it on my face. I’ll give it a try and report back what I think.
Inglot Haul_LBL (3)
Customer Service Experience
Unlike what I first thought, the Inglot online store and physical stores are separate retailers. If you buy something online, you can’t return it in store, you’d have to return it to the online store and vice versa. I had a mix up in the brush they sent to me (45S vs 4SS) and I first I thought I could easily go in-store to exchange it but that wasn’t the case. I was worried at first that it would be difficult to resolve the mix up because they don’t have a number to reach them directly, only an email address. I reached out to their online customer care and they were super quick to respond to my email. After confirming they had indeed sent the wrong brush they were extremely apologetic and sent me the correct brush immediately. They responded within a 24hr time frame and 3 days later I had the correct brush in my hand. As an apology for their mix-up they asked I keep the 45S and try it out regardless, they also included a few sample shadows in the package they sent with the 4SS brush! I wouldn’t expect terrible service but I was really happy by how quickly they worked to resolve my mix up. This makes me confident in shopping from their online store again in the future.

That’s what I got! I’m honestly a big fan of Inglot and have a few of their brushes and eye shadows.

Have you tied Inglot? What do you think of their items?

Lots of Love,
Dal

September Shopping, NYX Haul

The Labour Day Long weekend was a great time to just relax before the start of the new work week. My work offers reduced hours during the summer and after Labour Day I go back to my normal hours, it really can feel like going back to school sometimes!

Of course, I was bombarded with so many emails to do some online shopping so I did!

Here’s what I purchased off of the NYX Cosmetics website;

Perfect Filter Shadow Palette in Olive You ($22.00 CAD)
NYX Haul_September 2017 (3)

I was looking up dupes of the Anastasia Beverly Hills Subsculture palette and the Olive You palette showed up on a few lists. It also had a lot of great reviews on the NYX website so I figured the quality is there too. I love the colours, there are a variety of shades but it still feels pretty easy to put together looks with the different shades. I haven’t used this yet, but initial swatches of some of the colours feel really soft and the pigmentation seems good. I’m excited to incorporate these colours for the Fall and Winter.

Jumbo Eye Pencil in Yogurt and French Fries ($6.00 CAD)
NYX Haul_September 2017 (5)
I wanted to try using eye shadow pencils figuring they would be great whenever I wanted to put together a quick look. I have had a bit of time to test the two I purchased out. They are creamy and glide on, the colours are nice and shimmery. I can’t wear them too close to the crease or else the shadow starts to bunch off. I find that they do need primer to help prevent this from occuring but for the most part they work well on me. I wear yogurt all over the lid and then put french fries on the outer edge for depth. It’s a really quick way to do my eye makeup before rushing out the the door.

Lid Lingerie in Nude to Me ($9.00 CAD)
NYX Haul_September 2017 (6)

This formula looked really interesting so I thought I would pick up one to try. I have not tried it yet on the eyes but swatching it on my hand I find the colour comes out a bit more sheer compared to the eye pencils and it’s a lot more glittery. On the back of my hand it seems to wear off quite a bit so I will have to test it with a primer/concealer underneath and see if that helps.

NYX Haul_September 2017 (4)As you can probably tell, I think I want to go for more bronze and jewel tones for the Fall. I also just don’t want to make time to apply powder eye shadow so these cream products will be easy one step and go for eye shadow. Plus, I can always use them under shadow to change the effect. I’m sure they would look great with the Olive You palette!

These are the items I picked up from NYX. I think that for the most part, the cost was pretty reasonable for the items I got. I also liked shopping on the website more than trying to shop in store. I find the NYX Cosmetics store to be a bit too hectic and I’ve never liked the selection the drug stores carry so this was just a nice way to go through everything.
NYX Haul_September 2017 (2) I don’t use too much from this brand so I would love to know your favourite. What do you love from NYX?

Lots of Love,
Dal

Unboxing Boxycharm, August 2017

Price: $21.00 USD (+$5.00 shipping to Canada) Number of items: 4-5 full-size items.
Boxycharm is a monthly subscription box of full-size makeup, skincare and beauty tools. I’m super excited with the items I’ve received this month and think it works really well with the theme “Beach Please”.

ALL PRICES IN USD, CONVERTED TO CAD AT THE END

Royal & Langnickel, Moda Pro, 3-piece Brush Set
Retail Price: $26.00 USD
Boxycharm_Aug 2017_LBL1I really love the feel of these brushes. The set includes a tapered blush brush, chisel blender contour brush and a crease brush. I’m not sure how to use the chisel brush but the other two are definitely going in with my brush set. I love the texture of the barrel, giving me a good grip and making them feel really luxurious.

Bella Pierre Waterproof Gel Eyeliner
Retail Price: $15.00 USD
Boxycharm_Aug 2017_LBL3I haven’t used this eyeliner on my eyes but I did swatch it on my hand and it looks intensely black. I’ve received so many black eyeliners in subscription boxes I may never have to buy one ever again! LOL! I love receiving black eyeliners because I know I’ll use them.

PUR The Complexion Authority Pro Eyelashes in Diva
Retail Price: $14.00 USD
Boxycharm_Aug 2017_LBL7
These false lashes are so long and wispy. They are really pretty and I really want to give them a try although I don’t have anywhere to wear them to and I suck at applying false lashes. I will have to give them a try the next time I have an event.

The Beauty Crop #GRLPWR Liquid Lipstick in DateNight
Retail Price: $14.95 USD
Boxycharm_Aug 2017_LBL4
I thought at first this was another dark nude but it has a hint of berry that makes it a little bit closer to my natural lip shade. It looks red in my swatch below, but in person it is more pink. I wore this right after I swatched it and I loved the way it looked on my lips. It also felt really comfortable. This is enriched with Shea Butter and Vitamin E.

Tarte Rainforest of the Sea: Volume II
Retail Price: $36.00 USD
Boxycharm_Aug 2017_LBL6This was the star of the box for me this month. I actually already own this palette, getting it on sale on the Tarte website a few months ago. You can read the post and everything else I got here. This palette is still available on Tarte’s website and Sephora so it’s really sweet that subscribers got their hands on this palette. Since I already own this, I passed it along to my sister but I’m so impressed the Boxycharm was able to include it. The colours are nice and neutral and I think it has great pigmentation and is easy to blend.

My Thoughts
Boxycharm has once again proven that it’s a subscription box that has something really great to offer. I received items that I can definitely see myself enjoying. I am really excited about using the brush set and I’m already loving the liquid lipstick. The false lashes will probably get worn around the holidays and I am so happy I got something in the box I can share with my sister. Total value: $105.95 USD ($132.58 CAD).

Did you get Boxycharm this month? What do you think of the items in this month’s box?
