Summer Walk at High Park

I’ve mentioned in a few posts just how beautiful the summer has been. It’s been crazy warm and humid. For instance, this summer in Toronto, the temperature has been hovering around 30 degrees Celsius + (plus humidex running some days into 40-degree Celsius). That’s about 86 degrees Fahrenheit!

I’ve taken advantage of the wonderful weather this summer by enjoying walks home after work, heading to the beach on weekends, and taking walks through the various parks in Toronto.

highparkwalk (6)A few weeks ago I took a walk through High Park which a 399-acre park west of the Downtown area. This park is beautiful because it is full of unique gardens, lots of picnic areas, a lovely little restaurant, and a free zoo. It attracts many visitors all year round. It’s also the site of the Cherry Blossoms in Spring which I shared on my Instastories. highparkwalk (1)It was a really beautiful day when I went up to the park. I took a day off work and decided that I would go and enjoy breakfast at the restaurant in the center of the park and a little walk. There are so many gorgeous gardens to enjoy, the morning was so quiet so I felt like I had the park all to myself.highparkwalk (3)I got to the restaurant early morning. There were a few people also enjoying breakfast catching up with family and friends. It really is a good place to go to if you ever have plans to be in the park. The menu is pretty simple, but if you want to grab a quick bite it’s perfect if you decide to leave your picnic at home.

Afterwards, I walked through the park towards the lake. I love being near the water and living so close to Lake Ontario I get to experience it everyday!

I got back home just before the mid-day heat kicked in!

I can’t wait for Autumn to see all the leaves in High Park turn red, orange, and yellow! This week has been pretty hot, but I’m looking forward to cooler weather soon!

What are some activities you did this summer?

Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette, Palette Collection Review Series

The original chocolate bar palette is one of my very first palettes. I remember waiting until my birthday to buy this and then using it almost everyday afterwards. I’ve become quite attached to this palette so spoiler – I have very positive things to say about it.

palette-review-series_chocolate-bar_lbl-3

I like this palette because it is full of great neutrals that I can easily put together for simple everyday looks but has a few deeper shades and shimmers for more sultry evening looks.

What it is
An assortment chocolate-inspired shades formulated using real cocoa powder. A rich selection of the perfect browns, neutrals, and little pops of color.palette-review-series_chocolate-bar_lbl-2Price $59.00 CAD (0.62 oz total weight)

Scent
I guess I can’t talk about this palette without mentioning this. The scent is very strong and lasts – I’ve owned my palette for years now and it is still as potent as the day I got it. It smells like cocoa hot chocolate and I am completely in love with it! If you hate sweet smells, I would not get this palette because you will always smell this. palette-review-series_chocolate-bar_lbl_labeled-4Colours
Don’t expect to create colourful or bold looks with this. The colours here are neutral and warm in a few shade ranges to suite many skin types. Mostly you can create a variety of beautiful neutral looks. I gravitate towards this because I find I can easily put together a few solid everyday looks without needing to go into other palettes. The palette is well thought out in my opinion. I do appreciate the attempt for pops of colour with the pinks and purple but they aren’t bold enough to add any drama.

Application, Wear & Longevity
These are not as powdery as other shadows I’ve used but they blend so well. It’s very creamy and the shadows that are pigmented are really pigmented! I really like the formula of the shadows because they sit really well on my. I do wear these colours pretty often and find that they last the work day. I’ve become really comfortable using this palette and have some really favourites shades that I use whenever a need a quick look (white chocoloate over the lid and salted caramel in the crease are my quickest and easiest look). I’ve also enjoyed swiping just one shade over the lid and mascara and then just heading out the door (marzipan is that awesome shade).

palette-review-series_chocolate-bar_lbl_labeled-5
I wore salted caramel in the crease and deepened it with triple fudge on the outer edge. I then put white chocolate over the lid and dabbed a bit of champagne truffle in the center.

Pros

  • Smells delicious
  • Great everyday shades
  • Easy to blend

Cons

  • Pink and purples aren’t the best here

My Thoughts
Clearly, I would recommend this even if the colours are really neutral. After all the palettes I’ve purchased and received I still come back to this one.

Do you have any of the chocolate bar palettes? What do you think of this palette?

RaspberryMint; Trying new Body and Lip Care!

I’m excited to share some new skincare items that I’ve been enjoying over the last few weeks! I was contacted by Cherish, creator of Raspberrymint.ca to try out a few of their items and see how they faired on my skin. I decided, with winter here, that I would try some hydrating items for my skin and picked up the Argan and Jojoba Body Oil and Diva Night Repair Moisturizing Hemp Lips Conditioner. Cherish was also generous to share a fantastic coupon code for you and a giveaway (details at the end of this post).rm_lbl_dec20164 I am completely in love with body oils and I was really excited to give the Argan and Jojoba Body Oil in Strawberry* a try and see how I liked it. Let me say, this oil is very hydrating without feeling greasy. I spray a bit into my hands and then work this into my skin and I’m left with instantly hydrated skin. What’s better yet is the smell of this product is amazing! It has an incredible strawberry scent that is delicious but not overbearing. Everyone who has smelt this on me has commented on how good it is.

The ingredients in this include; coconut oil, grapeseed oil, organic argan oil to name only a few. Let me also point out that on the RaspberryMint.ca website all of their ingredients are listed, and not only that, they include a short description as to what key ingredients do. I love informed shopping!rm_lbl_dec20162The next product I tried was the Diva Night Repair  – Moisturizing Hemp Lips Conditioner* which is my new favourite lip product! Some ingredients in this include; organic coconut oil, organic shea butter, and hemp seed oil. This is a fantastic overnight lip mask but I’ve even applied it during the day if my lips are feeling a bit dry. This has such an emollient formula that you only need a little bit to coat your lips. A little goes a long way. This is extremely shiny so I’ve even dabbed a bit on top of lipstick to give my lips a glossy effect.  rm_lbl_dec20163The Diva Night Repair has no taste which I really appreciate and it smells like fresh cherries. It did feel a bit tingly when my lips were extremely cracked but that went away very quickly. Just a heads up if you have extremely dry or cracked lips. My lips aren’t cracked now so I don’t get a tingly sensation anymore.

I’ve really enjoyed trying these products and feel like they’ve made a difference in my skin. I feel the love and thought that went into each of these products and the ingredients that were used to create them. You can read about Cherish and her story and passion to create safe, chic and cruelty-free products, it’s very inspiring!

Unboxing Topbox, December 2016

Price: $12.00 CAD (plus tax, free shipping) 4 items
Topbox is a Canadian monthly beauty subscription service. Each month you have the option of getting a surprise box or to swap it for a prive box where all the products are from one brand and you know what they are. I again opted for a surprise box.

Bella Aura Skincare Instant Lifting Eye Contour

topbox-dec-2016_lbl-5
Full Size: $125.00 (30mL), Sample Size: $41.67 (10mL)

I just finished a few eye creams so I’m really happy that I received this in my box because I’ll have a chance to use this before I get a new one and who knows, maybe I’ll really like this! This product has a really interesting claim;  it reduces the appearance of multiple signs of aging leaving the eye area looking 6 years younger within 4 weeks. We will see about that!

Cake Beauty Heavy Cream Intensive Hand Repair Balm

topbox-dec-2016_lbl-3
Full Size: $22.00 (3.40z), Sample Size: $6.47 (1oz)

I have a few of the everyday hand creams from Cake Beauty that I absolutely love the smell of. I think they are so great, I grabbed a few to put into gift boxes for women in need. If you follow my instagram, I posted a picture of me putting together some boxes for the shoebox project which collects and distributes gifts in the form of Shoeboxes to women who are homeless or at-risk of homelessness in communities across Canada and the US. This hand cream is in an intensive formula so it’s different from what I usually get but I’m sure it will come in handy this winter.

LARITZY Cosmetics Pro Blender

topbox-dec-2016_lbl-4
Full Size: $16.29 (one blender) this is a full size item

This is new for me in Topbox, its one of the rare times that I’ve received a beauty tool. I haven’t opened this yet to know whether or not I’m going to like it as much as my beauty blender or my real techniques sponge, but I’ll be sure to give it a try. I’m not super picky about beauty sponges so I’m willing to try out new ones.

JOICO K-PAK Luster Lock Instant Shine & Repair Treatment

topbox-dec-2016_lbl-2
Full Size: $26.30 (140mL), Sample Size: $9.36 (50mL)

Yay! hair care! I’m really loving deep conditioning treatments for my hair, especially when I don’t heat style it because it helps to reduce frizz. You can either apply this to dry hair as a pre-shampoo treatment or after shampoo as a conditioning treatment. This smells so delicious too! I’m looking forward to trying this out.

My Thoughts
I’m very happy with my Topbox this month. I received a well rounded box again, with items for my hair, skin, hands, and a tool. What I really enjoy is that these are even different types of items than the month I had before. Total Value of my box; $73.79

Did you receive Topbox this month? What items did you receive?

Lots of Luv,
Dal

A Girl’s Gotta Spa! Energizing Body Wash and Lotion

It’s so hard to find the energy to do anything when you’re sick. Last week I was feeling a bit under the weather and I was anxious to get myself better. Luckily after lots of chicken soup and vitamin C, I’m feeling much more like myself. Something that helped me at least enjoy my showers each day was this beautiful set from a Girl’s Gotta Spa!

I used this every day for the past two weeks and my skin is looking and feeling really hydrated.

Energizing Citrus Natural and Organic Body Wash for Dry Skin, see hereaggs_2

  • 98% natural, plant-based ingredients with 30% aloe
  • burst of citrus to wake up your senses (not too strong for those sensitive to scents)
  • sulfate-free
  • pure essential oils of pink grapefruit, orange, lemon and lime

I really enjoyed using this body wash because it left my skin feeling moisturized. This is designed for dry skin with shea oil to hydrate as well as aloe and chamomile to soothe it. I really felt these ingredients at work as my skin is feeling less dry whenever I get out of the shower. A good test for me if a body wash is hydrating is whether or not I can use my body wash to shave my legs (I don’t use shaving cream) and this was AWESOME for that!

The body wash lathers up nicely and it leaves my skin feeling really clean and I loved the fresh and invigorating citrus scent. It is really energizing, the smell was a nice pick-me-up for when I was feeling really groggy and sick.

This was also gentle enough that I was able to wash my face with this without irritating my skin or eyes (great for when I’m in a rush and multitasking in the shower, lol). Overall I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked this wash.

Energizing Citrus Moisturizing Shea and Cocoa Butter Body Lotion for Dry, Itchy Skin*, see hereaggs_3

  • whipped texture that is highly hydrating, non-greasy and quick absorbing
  • energizing citrus scent (again, not too strong)
  • Antioxidant-rich olive oil, shea butter, and unprocessed natural cocoa butter

I’m truly obsessed with this lotion! I don’t feel as uncomfortably dry as I usually do and my skin is really soft to the touch. I didn’t need to reapply this as I usually do with lotion. The body lotion has a lighter scent compared to the body wash which is great because it didn’t overpower any perfume I put on afterward.

This is super lightweight and has a thin consistency, not at all thick or gloopy. I found that it absorbed into my skin really quickly so I was able to change right after I applied this. This is going to be my go-to lotion for winter.

My Thoughtsaggs_4My skin can feel itchy and appear flakey but the combination of this body wash and the lotion has improved the look and feel of my skin. It really feels like giving myself the spa treatment. I can see myself using these products for a long time and I hope that they create more scents and other body products – I’d love to see a hand cream in this line one day!! If you have dry skin, I really think these are great products to try. It’s super gentle, hydrating and I honestly have seen a huge difference in my skin.

Somethings you should know about A Girl’s Gotta Spa!
